Title:
  Sound is not automatically switched back from headphones to speakers

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  When plugging in headphones, sound output is correctly switched from
  speakers (line out) to the headphones. When the headphones are
  unplugged, sound is NOT automatically switched back to the speakers.

  This bug started happening on my system after I upgraded from 14.04 to
  15.10 so it is a regression. Attached is pulseaudio log of what
  happens when I plug and unplug my headphones.

And after a fresh reboot (just making sure because I thought I had had to 
reboot before), it STILL isn't working.

  No fonts after wake up from sleep

Bug description:
  When waking up from sleep (either called through pm-hibernate or
  occasionally also pm-suspend), there are not fonts at all anymore.
  This won't happen every time but more like every third or fourth time.
  Yet, it practically means that sleep can not be used. I don't quite
  know how to narrow this down any further.

  I'm using xubuntu 15.04 and pm-utils 1.4.1.-15. I don't start the xfce 
desktop but run a plain x-session with i3 as window manager. The attached 
screen shot shows i3 with an open terminal that would contain quite a bit of 
text if rendered correctly.

  If I'm browsing and doing some heavy stuff like streaming or runing
  multiple terminal commands (ssh, wget etc) or watching Video with VLC.
  Ubuntu just freezes entirely - no mouse or keyboard works unless

  happens, it happens when I don't expect it - even after a fresh boot.

2.  uvt-kvm create --memory 1024 --cpu 2 --disk 10 t1 release=trusty
3. uvt-kvm wait --insecure t1
4. uvt-kvm ssh --insecure t1
# inside t1 vm
5. edit /etc/network/interfaces to look like:

iface eth0 inet dhcp

auto eth1
iface eth1 inet static
gateway 10.0.2.1
address 10.0.2.100/24

What is the value of front playback volume in alsamixer? 

There is no headphone playback volume, gree lineout and headphone jack
have to share volume control since the other two audio outputs are used
for surround, center/clfe

It is strange that dB range is 115 as dB of audio outputs are -64 to 0
dB

  A nested server has its own display configuration policy, which is
  applied to the display configuration  it gets from the host at
  startup. However, that change is not propagate to the host server,
  leaving the two servers out of sync.

  propagated to the host, it's only the initial config that is the
  problem.

  SFTP wasn't working, auth.log showed "cannot stat /usr/libexec/openssh
  /sftp-server: No such file or directory"

  I checked /etc/ssh/sshd_config and /usr/share/doc/openssh-
  server/examples/sshd_config, which is apparently the source file. Both
  had the "libexec" path to the file.

  I ran "locate openssh/sftp-server" and got "/usr/lib/openssh/sftp-
  server"

  Corrected the path in the config file & all was well.

  When going to Settings->About phone -> Storage
  Storage used per app count does not include space used by app in 
~/.local//
  This makes is hard to determine which app is actually eating all the storage.
  It also makes whole list kinda pointless, since we can have easily app 
easting 1G or more  and never see it in the lis.
  Apps like podcast, browser, twitter can easily eat hundreds of MB without 
being spotted in the list.

  Expected result:
  space occupied by all is calculated from the size of application itself, plus 
data used by application under ~/.local//

  tested on RTM krillin (stable/bq-aquaris.en/krillin) v22

I had a very similar experience as the original submitter about two weeks ago.
I tried installing dekko from the store and when I hit the install button I had
the same error as in the original description:

and my account disappeared from the list. Whenever I re-added my U1
account and tried to install the app again, the same thing happened. In
contrast to the original bug description, the error and removal of my U1
account from the list also occurred for all other apps that I tried to
install (I think I tried installing the document viewer and the
calendar, but I'm not sure.) Registering with a different U1 account
(created for this purpose) made no difference — the error and removal of
the account still occurred. Rebooting the system also had no effect.

The error permanently disappeared (for all apps — i.e. I could install
any app, including dekko, without errors) after I added another online
(google) account (in addition to re-registering my U1 account again), in
order to check if it would also vanish at the same time as the U1
account. Removing the additional account did not cause the error to
revert. The entire episode (from first occurrence of the bug to its
disappearance) lasted several hours.

I had not previously added any online accounts other than the U1
account. I had previously installed several apps successfully before the
bug appeared and had not done anything (almost literally) with my device
between the previous successful install and the first appearance of the
bug.

My musings:
I'm not sure whether the bug was "solved" by the addition of the extra online
account or by the passage of time. I also don't know whether it was client- or
server-side, though both registering via my device and managing the U1 account
via the web interface (https://login.ubuntu.com/) worked fine, suggesting that
it probably wasn't a matter of the server simply being down.

Note:
I'm not expecting anyone to produce a patch to fix this based on my
description, but hope that it will be of some help to anyone who arrives here
via an online search.

after updating to rtm #6 today, I tried installing an app from the
store. The app in question is the new Grooveshark app by Grooveshark
(NOT the one by Adnane Belmadiaf)

When I hit the install button, I get an error:

Sure enough, my U1 is gone fron the registered online accounts.

I can re-add my U1 account and try again to add the app but the same
thing happens every time. Even after a device reboot.

Note that it has something to do with this app. Other apps install normally.
(Needless to say i have not tried every app or scope in the store so there
might be others that trigger this as well.)

  If there is music in a directory other than ~/Music, and that directory is 
then mounted with
  "mount --bind" to ~/Music/mountedmusic, those songs are not shown in music 
scope.
  It would be important that music app had the priviliges to read these 
directories too, mainly because the music from the android userdata could also 
be mounted under ~/Music for the music app. This would be a nice step towards 
the using Ubuntu Touch dual-boot-installed nexto to android.
  Same goes for Video scopes and Gallery app.

  EDIT: Symbolic links do not work either.

  When i launch manually the mediascanner-service-2.0 command on freshly
  mounted folder, after several media scanned i got this error message :

  "Error finalising statement: Could not finalize statement: database is locked
  Error when indexing: database is locked
  terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::runtime_error'
  what(): database is locked
  Aborted (core dumped)"

  Most of the medias are recognized in the picture app and music app

  My phone is a nexus 4 with Rc-proposed version.

  Users with IPv6-supporting networks will see the messages below in the bug 
description appear repeatedly as NM mistakes a 0 value for MTU in internal NM 
code with 0-size packets instead of meaning "use default MTU".

  [Test case]
  - Run network-manager on a network supporting IPv6.
  - Check /var/log/syslog for  messages from NetworkManager.

  [Regression Potential]
  This changes behavior for handling the MTU value for IPv6, which should be no 
higher than the device MTU. Since 0 is an invalid value for MTU anyway, this 
should not otherwise affect MTU handling for devices.
  Possible regressions from the change might include invalid (too high) set MTU 
for a device due to the failure to recognize cases where the MTU needs to be 
adjusted, leading to packet loss on IPv6.

   Step 1:
  1. Swipe down on the Location indicator
  1. Location options are shown

   Step 2:
  2. Toggle Location Detection off and GPS off
  2. Ticks change to crosses to signify they are turned off

  
   Step 3:
  3. Open a location enabled application (e.g. Maps)
  3. Here Maps opens

  Step 4:
  4. Allow the trust prompt if requested
  4. Trust prompt appears (only on first run)

   Step 5:
  5. Wait a few minutes and check if a fix is received
  5. No fix is made

  location on/off take effects only after reboot, re-launch here map
  does not work.

   Step 6:
  6. Swipe down on the Location indicator
  6. Location options are shown

   Step 7:
  7. Toggle Location Detection on and GPS on
  7. Crosses become ticks to signify they are turned on

   Step 8:
  8. Wait a few minutes and check if a fix is received
  8. You Open here and a location is returned

  I expect to location to be turned off when disabled and nolonger be able to 
give me a location

  ACTUAL:
  On disabling location and gps I open here maps or refresh the nearby scope 
and I am still presented with a location until I reboot

  
  THIS IS A REGRESSION over ota8 whereby when I turn off location I get no 
location and visa versa.

FWIW, I see the weird new behavior on every test with wifi enabled, even
when the screen is on and the phone is actively doing something.  For
example, while playing music:

tvoss: The raw data is available.  Simply remove "graph.png" from the
URL and it'll give you a directory with all sorts of logs.

The green-shaded section is the active measurement period used for
statistics.  The red-shaded portions indicate where USB was connected.
Everything else is unplugged.

  In a phone with a U1 account configured and working, some users
  reported that about a week ago (i.e. before OTA-7) they started having
  problems to upgrade software or install new apps.

  When they want to upgrade/install, they are asked for their U1
  information as in no account was set up in the phone. If they add the
  account through Accounts in Settings, the phone apparently stores the
  information but when the user wants to use the store it disappears
  again.

1) requestUpdate() should be left in, as the backend needs to tell other parts 
when the update request has been completed. I have tested this, so it does 
compile. In further testing, it does not look like any clients are requesting 
updates, so the increased power consumption is coming from somewhere else.

2) The crash is because of dead code, and included change is just a
quick fix. Proper fix is to go through this and remove the rest of the
dead and unneeded code.

3) If you want this delta as small as possible, it is safe to remove
this from the patch and only include #2. There is more dead code in
there now that it only relies on settings and active connections, which
I will remove in a different patch.

  - Local users can login without problems on command line and LightDM
  - Kerberos/LDAP authenticated users can login on command line

  - Kerberos/LDAP authenticated users cannot login with LigthDM. If you
  provide a valid user/password the screen gets blank before you return
  to the login screen. The .xession-errors includes "/usr/sbin/lightdm-
  session: 5: exec: init: not found"

  - If you add init to the users path (e.g., ln -s /sbin/init /bin/init)
  the user does no longer return back to LightDM but gets a blank
  screen. Several errors related to "init" in the .xsession-errors.
  First of them is "init: Failed to spawn upstart-file-bridge main
  process: unable to execute: No such file or directory"

   Step 1:
  1. Swipe down on the Location indicator
  1. Location options are shown

   Step 2:
  2. Toggle Location Detection off and GPS off
  2. Ticks change to crosses to signify they are turned off

  
   Step 3:
  3. Open a location enabled application (e.g. Maps)
  3. Here Maps opens

  Step 4:
  4. Allow the trust prompt if requested
  4. Trust prompt appears (only on first run)

   Step 5:
  5. Wait a few minutes and check if a fix is received
  5. No fix is made

  location on/off take effects only after reboot, re-launch here map
  does not work.

   Step 6:
  6. Swipe down on the Location indicator
  6. Location options are shown

   Step 7:

give me a location

  On disabling location and gps I open here maps or refresh the nearby scope 
and I am still presented with a location until I reboot

  
  THIS IS A REGRESSION over ota8 whereby when I turn off location I get no 
location and visa versa.

I'm using telepathy-ofono with its MC account plugin setting the ofono
account up. The ofono account has always_dispatch set to true, however
when autoconnecting on system startup where no network is available, the
account will not connect and wait for network to come up.

it does fix the issue of always_dispatch=true-account not being
connected when there's no network.

This patch is against version 5.16.3.

  MissionControl does not seem to connect accounts that have
  always_dispatch=true attribute set; that attribute is meant to serve
  as "skip network connection checks when connecting"-kind of thing.
  After some investigation, I've found a possible bug and created a
  patch. I've posted this patch to upstream [1] but the general activity
  in the project has declined and so it might take quite some time
  before it's reviewed and put into a release.

  Therefore I was advised to file a bug report here for a chance for
  this patch to be included as a distro patch. This would also help fix
  this issue in ubuntu-phone, where it is currently being
  workarounded[2].

  The patch itself is located at [1] so I'm not going to reupload it
  here.

  An incorrectly configured XDMCP server will start without authentication 
instead of disabling XDMCP / stopping LightDM.

  [Test Case]
  1. Set up LightDM to run an XDMCP server using an XDM authentication key, 
i.e. in lightdm.conf:

  enabled=true
  key=key-name
  2. Do not create /etc/lightdm/keys.conf or do not define 'key-name' in 
keys.conf.
  3. Start LightDM
  4. Connect XDMCP client.

  Expected result:
  Either LightDM doesn't start or the XDMCP server doesn't start.

  Observed result:
  XDMCP server starts without authentication, any XDMCP client is able to 
connect. Debug message printed to log warning about missing key, but not easy 
to spot.

  [Regression Potential]
  Low - change is to not start LightDM if this case occurs. This could affect 
someone who currently has a misconfigured LightDM. In this case a warning 
message is printed to the log.

  MissionControl does not seem to connect accounts that have
  always_dispatch=true attribute set; that attribute is meant to serve
  as "skip network connection checks when connecting"-kind of thing.
  After some investigation, I've found a possible bug and created a
  patch. I've posted this patch to upstream [1] but the general activity
  in the project has declined and so it might take quite some time
  before it's reviewed and put into a release.

  Therefore I was advised to file a bug report here for a chance for
  this patch to be included as a distro patch. This would also help fix
  this issue in ubuntu-phone, where it is currently being
  workarounded[2].

  The patch itself is located at [1] so I'm not going to reupload it
  here.

So the latest changes in Lorn's signals6 patch can be summarized as:

1) remove QNetworkManagerEngine::requestUpdate (), which is a public
method which can trigger a WiFi scan request to NM.

This method doesn't appear to be called internally by the bearer plugin,
so if we think extra WiFi scans are the culprit, there must have been an
change to one of our Qt applications which is calling this method.
Also as this method wasn't added in the original patch, it's presence
can't really be considered a regression.  Has anyone attempted to
determine if we *are* scanning more often?  This could be done manually
by running wpa_cli ( as root ), and watching for the frequency of scan
events output.  It can also be accomplished by looking at the wpa_suppl
and/or NM log messages in syslog.   And finally, you could also just
monitor DBus looking for ScanDone signals from NM.

NOTE - I'm pretty sure this patch won't compile unless this method is
also removed from qnetworkmanagerengine.h too, but I haven't tried to
build it myself...

 2) check that wiredDevice pointer is valid before using it to call a
method

This is the crasher fix when USS/Qt from the PPA gets installed on a
desktop.  Looks fine to me.

 3) remove most of the logic from the engine's parseConnection() method.
This method takes a connection path, and creates a private configuration
object, and then based upon the underlying device type, may modify the
private configuration instance in a device-specific way before returning
it to the caller.  The device-specific logic in some cases could have
side-effects, such as modifying the global accessPointConfigurations
hash table and/or the configuredAccessPoint map.

Again, this chnage looks reasonable to remove, however I don't see how
it could have any impact on power.   This code only runs during
initialization where all existing system connections are loaded, and
whenever a new system connection is added ( ie. a user connects to a new
AP or APN ).

I'm not sure whether we want to include this the last change if we want
to keep the delta as small as possible?

I can confirm that using java 8 (openjdk) on 15.10 fixes rendering
problems in skype. However one minor corruption occurs in IntelliJ IDEA
itself when running on java 8 (openjdk) (see screen-shot).

After upgrade to 16.04 as of 8 Dec 2015, none of java versions cause any
corruption in skype, however now both java versions - 7 and 8 (openjdk)
-  exhibit the corruption in IntelliJ IDEA as in the attached screen-
shot.

I looked through the code in the mx4 kernel now a bit more and the
reason for the hold wakelock is that there is simply data flowing.  What
triggers the data flow or what data is actually flowing is not clear yet
but I don't see any HCI frames receiving on the bluetooth stack side so
far when this happens.

Next steps are to find a proper fix:

1. Find out what is actually sending data and why
2. Look into the difference between mx4 and krillin on the kernel side and see 
if that helps us
3. Trace the trigger through the whole MTK stack and see what is actually 
causing the activity

  THIS IS A REGRESSION over ota8 whereby when I turn off location I get no 
location and visa versa.

  location on/off take effects only after reboot, re-launch here map

  EXPECTED:
  I expect to location to be turned off when disabled and nolonger be able to 
give me a location

  ACTUAL:
  On disabling location and gps I open here maps or refresh the nearby scope 
and I am still presented with a location until I reboot

  
  THIS IS A REGRESSION over ota8 whereby when I turn off location I get no 
location and visa versa.

Hi Michał, thanks for trying.

Unfortunately, it's a partially decidable problem. If you don't see the bug, 
that doesn't mean that the bug is fixed :-(
All we can be sure of is that, if you still do see the bug, it isn't fixed…

I have good reason to believe that the code in the PPA gets rid of the
problem. But, seeing that I never managed to reproduce myself, I'm
looking for more data.

Timo, if you could give this a spin too, I'd appreciate it!

change in LightDM. Since this is a new flag to X.org if a user was to use 
another X server there is a risk it would not understand that flag. However it 
seems unlikely since X.org is the only actively developed X server.

  With this setup you should only be able to make a local connection.

  Currently LightDM connects to an XDMCP enabled X server using the first 
suitable address in the XDMCP Request packet. However, some clients may put a 
number of addresses in this message and potentially they are not all routable. 
If the address the request message came from is in the list we should use that 
first as that is more likely to be a routable address. This also matches the 
behaviour of GDM which ignores the contents of the Request packet anyway.

  [Test Case]
  1. Start LightDM with XDMCP enabled
  2. Connect with a client that puts a number of addresses in the Request packet

  Expected result:
  LightDM prefers the address the Request came from over the other addresses.

  Observed result:
  LightDM always picks the first address.

  [Regression Potential]
  There is a possibility of a behaviour change in existing clients that had two 
valid addresses, though the particular address shouldn't matter (unless complex 
firewalling / routing rules are being used). There is a risk that XDMCP 
behaviour could have been broken by the change (tested with regression tests).

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  Unable to run Chromium from guest session.

  [Test Case]
  1. Start Ubuntu
  2. From greeter select guest session
  3. Load Chromium

  Expected result:
  Chromium runs.

  Observed result:
  Chromium does not run.

  [Regression Potential]
  Low. The change is a few additional apparmor rules. There is a low risk that 
the new rules might allow a guest program to access a flaw.
