Confirmed here Thinkpad S1 Yoga that disabling the Sensors in BIOS fixes
this problem. It would seem that USB HID signals fromt he gyroscope

More info (sort of):
After booting today, I used SSH from another machine (successfully
logging in). Unfortunately, when the laptop froze, so did my ssh
session. The terminal was not "disconnected by host", but it was inert.
The laptop has quieted, but not completely silent. Something is whirring
The same thing happens with ubuntu-bug sane-backends or ubuntu-bug
software-properties. I think it would happen with any source package
without a corresponding binary package name.
