... or maybe not, since I don't see the file in the Debian git repo
(from the Vcs-Git field in from debian/control from the Ubuntu source):

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Both of these scripts do the same thing, and both are installed by

  /etc/X11/Xsession.d/60x11-common_localhost

35x11-common_xhost-local is present in debian, while
60x11-common_localhost is not. I suspect the latter should be removed.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1726124] Re: DNS domain search paths not updated when VPN started

Title:
DNS domain search paths not updated when VPN started

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in network-manager-openvpn package in Ubuntu:

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I connect to work with openvpn through network-manager-openvpn. I'm
selecting automatic (DHCP) to get an IP address, and "Use this
connection only for resources on its network" to support split
  tunneling.

In the last few versions of Ubuntu I used, this all worked fine. In
Ubuntu 17.10 (fresh install, not upgrade) I can access hosts on both
my VPN network and the internet, BUT I have to use FQDN for my VPN
network hosts: the updates to the DNS search path provided by my VPN
DHCP server are never being applied.

Investigating the system I see that /etc/resolv.conf is pointing to
/run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf and that resolv.conf does not
have any of the VPN's search path settings in it:

# This file is managed by man:systemd-resolved(8). Do not edit.
#
# 127.0.0.53 is the systemd-resolved stub resolver.
# run "systemd-resolve --status" to see details about the actual
nameservers.
nameserver 127.0.0.53

search home

In previous versions of Ubuntu, where NetworkManager controlled the
resolver not systemd, /etc/resolv.conf pointed to
/run/NetworkManager/resolv.conf and there was a local dnsmasq instance
that managed all the complexity. In Ubuntu 17.10 when I look in
/run/NetworkManager/resolv.conf file, I see that the search paths ARE
  properly updated there:

$ cat /run/NetworkManager/resolv.conf
# Generated by NetworkManager
search internal.mycorp.com other.mycorp.com home
nameserver 127.0.1.1

However this file isn't being used, and also there's no dnsmasq
running on the system so if I switch my /etc/resolv.conf to point to
this file instead, then all lookups fail.

Strangely, if I look at the systemd-resolv status I see that in theory
systemd-resolve does seem to know about the proper search paths:

$ systemd-resolve --status
   ...
Link 3 (tun0)
  Current Scopes: DNS LLMNR/IPv4 LLMNR/IPv6
   LLMNR setting: yes
MulticastDNS setting: no
  DNSSEC setting: no
DNSSEC supported: no
 DNS Servers: 10.3.0.10
  10.8.42.2
  DNS Domain: ~internal.mycorp.com
  ~other.mycorp.com

but for whatever reason the search domains are not getting put into
  the resolv.conf file:

$ host mydesk
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

$ host mydesk.internal.mycorp.com
mydesk.internal.mycorp.com has address 10.8.37.74

(BTW, the timeout in the failed attempt above takes 10s: it is SUPER
frustrating when all your host lookups are taking that long just to
  fail).

That is correct (apparmor-notify package needs an added dependency on
python3-psutil). We have an upload in progress to address it.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: pulseaudio

  I'm testing a Nokia BH-905i headset (see
http://www.wissel.net/blog/d6plinks/SHWL-8AZGGF ) on Ubuntu 10.10. The
Bluetooth module correctly identifies the headset and the both audio profiles
"HSP/ HFP Telephony duplex" and "A2DP High Fidelity Playback". For music
playback only A2DP is suitable (HSP/HFP sounds like listening to music played
through an old telephone). A2DP does not have an INPUT mode, so use of the
headset for VoiP isn't possible.
What would be needed is a separate selection to allow to select A2DP for
output and HSP/HFP for input. Smartphones (a lot of them *nix based) phones do
that (or they switch on the fly?).

  Formal structure:
  1) Ubuntu 10.10
  2) Pulse-Audio 1:0.9.22~0.9.21+stable-queue-32-g8478-0ubuntu21.1
  consisting og pluseaudio, pulseaudio-esound-compat,
pulseaudio-module-bluetooth, pulseaudio-module-gconf, pulseaudio-module-x11,
pulseaudio-utils
  3) Select high quality audio output and still use the Bluetooth microphone
  4) Had to choose: either high quality audio or "telephone quality" with
microphone

I can change the profile without the Bluetooth connection dropping,
but that's ridiculous. E.g. listening to music, a call comes in. Then
I would need to switch the profile before answering. Please note that
in Windows, Mac OS, iOS, Android, and Windows Mobile it's done
  automatically.

  Check out attached screencast.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1879980] Re: Fail to boot with LUKS on top of RAID1 if the array is broken/degraded

2020-10-08 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Guilherme, or anyone else affected,

Accepted cryptsetup into focal-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cryptsetup/2:2.2.2-3ubuntu2.3 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  * Considering a setup of a encrypted rootfs on top of md RAID1 device, Ubuntu
is currently unable to decrypt the rootfs if the array gets degraded, like for
example if one of the array's members gets removed.

  * The problem has 2 main aspects: first, cryptsetup initramfs script
attempts to decrypt the array only in the local-top boot stage, and in
case it fails, it gives-up and show user a shell (boot is aborted).

  * Second, mdadm initramfs script that assembles degraded arrays
executes later on boot, in the local-block stage. So, in a stacked
setup of encrypted root on top of RAID, if the RAID is degraded,
cryptsetup fails early in the boot, preventing mdadm to assemble the
  degraded array.

  * The hereby proposed solution has 2 components: first, cryptsetup
script is modified to allow a gentle failure on local-top stage, then
it retries for a while (according to a heuristic based on ROOTDELAY
with minimum of 30 executions) in a later stage (local-block). This
gives time to other initramfs scripts to run, like mdadm in local-
block stage. And this is meant to work this way according to
initramfs-tools documentation (although Ubuntu changed it a bit with
wait-for-root, hence we stopped looping on local-block, see next
  bullet).

  * Second, initramfs-tools was adjusted - currently, it runs for a
while the mdadm local-block script, in order to assemble the arrays in
a non-degraded mode. We extended this approach to also execute
cryptsetup, in a way that after mdadm ends its execution, we execute
at least once more time cryptsetup. In an ideal world we should loop
on local-block as Debian's initramfs (in a way to remove hardcoded
mdadm/cryptsetup mentions from initramfs-tools code), but this would
be really a big change, non-SRUable probably. I plan to work that for
  future Ubuntu releases.

  [Test case]
  * Install Ubuntu in a Virtual Machine with 2 disks. Use the installer to
create a RAID1 volume and an encrypted root on top of it.

  * Boot the VM, and use "sgdisk"/"wipefs" to erase the partition table
from one of the RAID members. Reboot and it will fail to mount rootfs
  and continue boot process.

  * If using the initramfs-toos/cryptsetup patches hereby proposed, the
  rootfs can be mounted normally.

  2) Pulse-Audio 1:0.9.22~0.9.21+stable-queue-32-g8478-0ubuntu21.1
  consisting og pluseaudio, pulseaudio-esound-compat,
pulseaudio-module-bluetooth, pulseaudio-module-gconf, pulseaudio-module-x11,
pulseaudio-utils
  3) Select high quality audio output and still use the Bluetooth microphone
  4) Had to choose: either high quality audio or "telephone quality" with
microphone

I can change the profile without the Bluetooth connection dropping,
but that's ridiculous. E.g. listening to music, a call comes in. Then
I would need to switch the profile before answering. Please note that
in Windows, Mac OS, iOS, Android, and Windows Mobile it's done
  automatically.

  Check out attached screencast.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1573095] Re: Cloud images fail to boot when a serial port is not available

2020-10-08 Thread Guilherme G. Piccoli
The specific issue (the bad return from printf) was worked in LP #1879987 - it
was fixed recently on initramfs-tools versions:
0.122ubuntu8.17 (Ubuntu 16.04 - Xenial)
0.130ubuntu3.11 (Ubuntu 18.04 - Bionic)
0.136ubuntu6.3 (Ubuntu 20.04 - Focal)
0.137ubuntu12 (Ubuntu 20.10 - Groovy)

I'll nominate this LP for initramfs-tools and set as Fix Released. If that's
still reproducible in any way, likely there's another correlated issue, please
open another LP and mention it here.
Cheers,

Guilherme

The error is:

ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'psutil'

Looks like a missing dependency on python3-psutil (or whatever the
package is named) in the package that contains aa-notify.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1899049] [NEW] Internal microphone not detected

2020-10-08 Thread Laurens
Public bug reported:

Version: Ubuntu 20.04.01

My Tongfang PF5NU1G's internal microphone used to work on an older
kernel version (5.4) but since I've upgraded the kernel to 5.8+ due to
better support for AMD Renoir (Ryzen 7 4800H + Radeon Vega 8 graphics),
the internal mic stopped working.

I have also tried to use kernel version 5.6, but has the same problem.

The mic is selected in the settings menu as: Digital Microphone-Family
17h(Models 10h-1fh) HD Audio Controller

When i record audio with the default input source selected in Audacity,
it records a small static-like sound. The microphone does not detect any
input it seems.

Thanks in advance!

It seems the gnome frontend to debconf is broken on your system at the
time libpam0g is being configured. debconf needs to be able to handle
this more gracefully.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1898869] Re: System slow on booting

I'm not sure what the expectation is here. This is a slow laptop with a
spinning disk and 4G RAM. The critical chain shows that waiting for
network adds quite some time. Also teamviewer is installed adding +5s.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1898869] Re: System slow on booting

2020-10-08 Thread Lyubomir
I am not a Windows fanboy, but the system is booting much slower than
Windows was before. So i think it is a bug and uploaded the logs in hope
to see what causes the slowdown and how it can be improved. That was the
expectation. Also, why network has to come online for me to be able to
login? Why is it even waiting for it? It should not be blocking login i
believe.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1895757] Re: Terminal hangs running sudo when "use_pty" is set in /etc/sudoers

2020-10-08 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Looked at the autopkgtest regressions:

gvfs2 passed on retry.

openssh fails with -updates and -release too.
openssh is missing the test-case fix currently in -proposed
(openssh/1:7.6p1-4ubuntu0.4)

to confirm, i ran openssh autopkgtests w/ openssh from -proposed; it passes.
however, when trying w/ openssh from -proposed + sudo -proposed, it failed
again (differently.)

so apparently there's more in there.

i triggered tests w/ openssh from -proposed + sudo from -updates and -release,
to confirm if it's really a regression from this patch, after fixing openssh.

currently running / see details in:
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/o/openssh/bionic/amd64

Title:
Terminal hangs running sudo when "use_pty" is set in /etc/sudoers

Status in sudo package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in sudo source package in Bionic:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]
sudo commands can hang when IO logging is enabled

  [Description]
When doing cleanup in pty_close(), sudo can leave file descriptors and events
behind that would later cause poll() to wait on a "dead" pty. This can cause
sudo to hang when IO logging is enabled, due to the poll() timeouts.

The issue has been fixed upstream by the commit below:
  - In pty_close() close the slave and remove any events associated
(4df454310dae)

  $ git describe --contains 4df454310dae96d01d09a05be89dc8c57fd4cef7
  SUDO_1_8_23

  $ rmadison sudo
   sudo | 1.8.16-0ubuntu1 | xenial | source, ...
   sudo | 1.8.16-0ubuntu1.9 | xenial-security | source, ...
   sudo | 1.8.16-0ubuntu1.9 | xenial-updates | source, ...
   sudo | 1.8.21p2-3ubuntu1 | bionic | source, ...
   sudo | 1.8.21p2-3ubuntu1.2 | bionic-security | source, ...
   => sudo | 1.8.21p2-3ubuntu1.2 | bionic-updates   | source, ... <
   sudo | 1.8.31-1ubuntu1 | focal| source, ...
   sudo | 1.8.31-1ubuntu1.1 | focal-updates| source, ...
   sudo | 1.9.1-1ubuntu1 | groovy | source, ...

Xenial doesn't exhibit this behaviour, so fixes are only needed for Bionic
(Focal onwards already have the fix by default due to sudo version).

  [Test Case]

  1. Ensure /etc/sudoers contains 'Defaults use_pty'
  2. Execute the following test command:
  $ for i in {1..10}; do sudo -- cat /var/log/syslog; done

The terminal will hang during syslog output.

  [Regression Potential]
The fix introduces additional cleaning when closing/flushing pty devices, so
the
regression potential should be low. It has been present upstream since
sudo-1.8.23, so it has seen thorough testing in most Linux distributions
  including Ubuntu.

A regression could possibly cause issues when switching back out from sudo
sessions, as the changes only touch the pty_close path, but seems unlikely
considering the patch has been present in other Ubuntu releases as well.

  --
An SSH terminal into an Ubuntu server (tested on 18.04.5) hangs running a
command using 'sudo' when 'use_pty' is set in /etc/sudoers.

Steps to reproduce ('sudo' version --> 1.8.21p2-3ubuntu1.2):

  1) Log in into an Ubuntu server (tested on 18.04.5 using SSH)
  2) Ensure that /etc/sudoers has the following line (add this line if not

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1691908] Re: fstab binds appear as mounts (x-gvfs-hide is being ignored)

I have reported a new bug:

Thanks for your help...

Title:
fstab binds appear as mounts (x-gvfs-hide is being ignored)

Status in GLib:
  Expired
Status in glib2.0 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
glib2 version 2.52.2+1+gb8bd46bc8-1 (possibly the version before it as
well, I haven't tested) causes fstab binds to appear as mounts in
Nautilus (and in Deepin Dock - Deepin is based on Gnome).

Downgrading to glib2 and glib2-docs 2.52.0-1 resolves this behaviour.

I first noted this bug behaviour here:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glib2.0/+bug/452049

Details of my particular system and issue with what I tried to resolve
  it can be found here:
  https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1712030#p1712030

  1. Not using Ubuntu. Deepin Desktop 15.4 (Gnome based) on Arch Linux.

   OS: Arch Linux
   Kernel: x86_64 Linux 4.10.13-1-ARCH
   Shell: bash 4.4.12
   Resolution: 1920x1200

   GPU: GeForce GTX 950
   RAM: 2598MiB / 15990MiB

  2. 2.52.2+1+gb8bd46bc8-1 (downgrading to 2.52.0-1 removed the
  problem).

  3. Nautilus to list internal physical drives (my SSD and 1TB HDD)
  only.

  4. Nautilus listed my system disk (as expected) but also listed all of
my fstab binds as removable drives (Downloads, Music, Pictures, Videos
and Documents although this was not listed as "Documents" but instead
listed as the HDD label "Farsight"). Adding x-gvfs-hide did not hide
  those drives.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1879980] Re: Fail to boot with LUKS on top of RAID1 if the array is broken/degraded

2020-10-08 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Guilherme, or anyone else affected,

Accepted cryptsetup into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cryptsetup/2:2.0.2-1ubuntu1.2 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-bionic.

** Changed in: cryptsetup (Ubuntu Bionic)
Status: In Progress => Fix Committed

** Tags removed: verification-done-bionic
** Tags added: verification-needed-bionic

  [Regression potential]

2020-10-08 Thread Peter Goodall
@Sebastien,

Thanks, but I am struggling to find a PID to report this against. So I
had to find related subject-matter - Bug 1691908 was the most relevant I
could locate. So what do I report this against? I don't really do Ubuntu
internals, so my knowledge of relevant subsystems is limited. It isn't
like Smalltalk where I can click on the offending item and drop into an
inspector.

`ubuntu-bug` requires a PID. '

`sudo gio mount -li ` output doesn't seem to help... The zfs mount-
points are not removable drives...

Bug description:
The new indicator panel code (correctly) honors the indicators'
"visible" flag when deciding what to hide from the status bar.

However, it also (incorrectly) honors this flag in the Revealed
Indicators UI. The RTM Usability Fixes document lists that all of our
indicators should be visible there, regardless of whether they're
  hidden in the status bar.

IIUC this was one of the original goals of the redesign -- to
declutter the status bar without losing access to the lesser
  indicators

Flash must be considered cheap nowadays. Unity8 is dumping about 1K -
2K of logging data to /home/phablet/.ubuntu-touch-

To observe the write activity, install fatrace, cd to / and run sudo
  fatrace -c

  Also, tail -f /home/phablet/.ubuntu-touch-session/logs/unity8.log
shows the following log messages being appended:

I'm not against logging errors, but *lots* of identical error messages
filling up the flash file system at 1-2K a second costs us space and
wastefully consumes power and adds to flash wear.

It looks to me like one of them could be easily deleted. I'd vote for
keeping the first one, 'type ' seems a tad more sensible than
'-x /usr/bin/', and also the first one makes sure there's no
  error exit status.

Title:
[FFe][20.10 FEAT] zlib/gzip hardware compression enablement

Status in Ubuntu on IBM z Systems:
  Fix Committed
Status in zlib package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Feature Freeze Exception]

  1. Feature:

The latest s390x hardware comes with a new concept for hardware
assisted compression/decompression, based on a 'Next Accelerator
Function unit' (NXU). This is an on-chip concept, a co-processor for
compression available to all cores on the same chip. It provides
functions as normal 'problem state' instructions (in other words user
space instructions that are directly consumable by libraries and
applications) and supports DEFLATE compliant compression/decompression
  + GZIP CRC/ZLIB Adler.

To enable this hardware support for zlib and gzip, zlib needs to be compiled
with CFLAGS="-O2 -DDFLTCC -DDFLTCC_LEVEL_MASK=0x7e".
The value of 0x7e enables hardware compression for the compression levels 1-6
(out of 0-9).
There is a significant business value of having the enablement active by
default, since tests on a system with 4 IFLs and hardware compression enabled
this way offered (especially for DEFLATE as best case) a speed up of more than
40x.

  2. Changes

  Adding CFLAGS="-O2 -DDFLTCC -DDFLTCC_LEVEL_MASK=0x7e" attributes/macro
during build of zlib and gzip.

  3. Regression risk

The concept is new and comes with IBM z15 and LinuxONE III only and is with
that specific and limited to s390x.
Hence a potential regressions of this late addition would be limited to s390x
and there again with the above changes to zlib (and gzip).
In case of unforeseen issues with the NXU hardware component, a fallback to
software is done.
On top a modified zlib package was build and made available in a PPA for
further testing.
This change should have been included earlier, but was blocked by other zlib
tickets/bugs that needed to be fixed and integrated first (like LP 1893170),
hence this request for late addition.
  __

HW Compression need to be enabled with Default-Compression-Level 6.

Adding following CFLAGS attributes during build of zlib and gzip
  "-DDFLTCC_LEVEL_MASK=0x7e"

  CFLAGS="-O2 -DDFLTCC -DDFLTCC_LEVEL_MASK=0x7e" ./configure

I see you cleared the list a lot - awesome!
You have subscribed and pinged the remaining ones which is a reasonable
approach as most might be no more real issues as of today.

I'm ok for the Ubuntu side of the pcsc-lite bugs now, what still needs
to be addressed is https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1871268] Re: Installation fails when "Install Third-Party Drivers" is selected

2020-10-08 Thread Damien Thébault
My CI/CD now works properly since this morning (see #48).
And it's using the same base image (bento/ubuntu-20.04 202008.16.0) so there is
indeed a working fix on the apt servers side.

I think both files come from Debian. I did an 'apt-get source

debian/local/Xsession.d. I see both files there:

debian/local/Xsession.d/35x11-common_xhost-local:5:# Unlike other uses of
xhost, this is safe since the kernel can check
debian/local/Xsession.d/35x11-common_xhost-local:8:if type xhost >/dev/null

@Peter, please don't comment on a closed report but rather open a new
one using ubuntu-bug and including current debug informations (in that
case probably output of 'gio mount -li')

Title:
fstab binds appear as mounts (x-gvfs-hide is being ignored)

Status in GLib:
  Expired
Status in glib2.0 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
glib2 version 2.52.2+1+gb8bd46bc8-1 (possibly the version before it as
well, I haven't tested) causes fstab binds to appear as mounts in
Nautilus (and in Deepin Dock - Deepin is based on Gnome).

Downgrading to glib2 and glib2-docs 2.52.0-1 resolves this behaviour.

I first noted this bug behaviour here:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glib2.0/+bug/452049

Details of my particular system and issue with what I tried to resolve
  it can be found here:
  https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1712030#p1712030

  1. Not using Ubuntu. Deepin Desktop 15.4 (Gnome based) on Arch Linux.

   OS: Arch Linux
   Kernel: x86_64 Linux 4.10.13-1-ARCH
   Shell: bash 4.4.12
   Resolution: 1920x1200
   DE: Deepin 15.4
   WM: Deepin WM
   WM Theme: Arc-Darker
   GTK Theme: Arc-Darker [GTK2/3]
   Icon Theme: deepin
   Font: Noto Sans 11
   CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 @ 4x 3.6GHz [27.8°C]
   GPU: GeForce GTX 950
   RAM: 2598MiB / 15990MiB

  2. 2.52.2+1+gb8bd46bc8-1 (downgrading to 2.52.0-1 removed the
  problem).

  3. Nautilus to list internal physical drives (my SSD and 1TB HDD)
  only.

  4. Nautilus listed my system disk (as expected) but also listed all of
my fstab binds as removable drives (Downloads, Music, Pictures, Videos
and Documents although this was not listed as "Documents" but instead
listed as the HDD label "Farsight"). Adding x-gvfs-hide did not hide
  those drives.
