[Touch-packages] [Bug 1903903] Re: [MSI MS-17C5] "Analog Stereo Duplex" profile keeps disappearing
** Summary changed: - "Analog Stereo Duplex" profile keeps disappearing + [MSI MS-17C5] "Analog Stereo Duplex" profile keeps disappearing -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1903903 Title: [MSI MS-17C5] "Analog Stereo Duplex" profile keeps disappearing Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: After every reboot, the profile named "Analog Stereo Duplex" keeps disappearing on my laptop; only "Analog Stereo Input" and "Analog Stereo Output" are present. Without "duplex", I cannot use both the built-in microphone and the speakers/headphones at the same time. A workaround I found is to remove the user's configuration for pulseaudio and restart it: rm -rf .config/pulse pulseaudio -k This brings the "Analog Stereo Duplex" profile back until the next reboot. This problem started after an upgrade from Ubuntu 20.04 to 20.10. I made a screencast of this: https://youtu.be/Vlz5471EYVQ The laptop is MSI WE73-8SK. Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. The ChromiumOS team recently tackled this issue - https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=843048 Their efforts may assist in bringing this to Ubuntu, however it appears that there are quite a lot of differences considering they have developed their own audio server solution etc. The Bluetooth Telephony Working Group published the HFP 1.6 spec in May 2011 - https://www.bluetooth.org/docman/handlers/downloaddoc.ashx?doc_id=238193 Patches have been proposed in the past for this issue to the kernel and PulseAudio: PulseAudio: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/245272/ Kernel: https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-bluetooth/msg76982.html It appears that the Chromium OS team applied the same kernel patch: https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromiumos/third_party/kernel/+/77dd0cb94c1713a8a12f6e392955dfa64c430e54 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 19.04 Package: pulseaudio 1:12.2-2ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.0.0-20.21-generic 5.0.8 Uname: Linux 5.0.0-20-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.10-0ubuntu27.1 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: jnappi 2777 F pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sat Jul 27 11:08:29 2019 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-11-04 (629 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 17.10 "Artful Aardvark" - Release amd64 (20171018) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: pulseaudio UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to disco on 2019-07-18 (9 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 06/07/2016 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: R07ET67W (2.07 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 20FW000TUS dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: SDK0J40705 WIN dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: None dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvrR07ET67W(2.07):bd06/07/2016:svnLENOVO:pn20FW000TUS:pvrThinkPadT460p:rvnLENOVO:rn20FW000TUS:rvrSDK0J40705WIN:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNone: dmi.product.family: ThinkPad T460p dmi.product.name: 20FW000TUS dmi.product.sku: LENOVO_MT_20FW_BU_Think_FM_ThinkPad T460p dmi.product.version: ThinkPad T460p dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/pulseaudio/+bug/1838151/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Touch-packages] [Bug 1903048] Re: [SRU] Bluetooth won't activate on the pi 400

They're not interested in upstreaming them themselves, though they expressed no objections to my attempting to do so when I raised the question. I realize I'll probably have a bit of a battle on my hands with something like the patch involving sleep(1), but I would note that the sleep(1) hack is in the hciattach_bcm43xx module so it is not something that would be applied to every single Bluetooth module, only to those compatible with the BCM43xx line. While 1 second is obviously a suspiciously round number for the delay, I would further note that it's immediately after a firmware load over the controlling UART and that that UART can (in certain configurations) be the Pi's mini-UART which has some (minimal) buffering, but lacks any hardware flow control. Finally, these patches were also intended to work on the relatively slow, single core Pi Zero. Obviously we don't support the Zero, and thus it's possible *we* might be able to either do away with that sleep, or at least reduce the delay required, but given this is one-off initialization, and the delay is all of 1 second, I'm not convinced it's worth investing the time required to figure out the minimum. Also, I would assume in the interests of upstreaming the patch, the delay should be as widely applicable as possible. Anyway, I'll upstream what I can and we'll have to carry whatever's left over. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to bluez in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1903048 Title: [SRU] Bluetooth won't activate on the pi 400 Status in bluez package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in bluez source package in Hirsute: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] Without these patches, Bluetooth is inoperable on the recently released Raspberry Pi 400. The only significant risk is to non-Pi platforms or dongles which also use the Broadcom 43xx (or Cypress 305) chips for Bluetooth which might be inadvertently affected by these patches. [Original Description] The new Pi 400 has a slightly different Wifi/BT chip to the Pi4. Whilst wifi works happily, Bluetooth fails to operate. This doesn't appear to be an issue with either the firmware (the latest versions from upstream Raspbian have been tried), or the kernel (a known-good raspi kernel has been tested under Ubuntu), but with Bluez itself. Specifically, tracing the initialization with btmon on Raspbian and Ubuntu, the stack consistently fails when attempting to "Set Default PHY" on the latter. Curiously, under Ubuntu the adapter also appears to lack a MAC address. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1838151] Re: Poor quality audio with modern Bluetooth headsets in HSP/HFP. Missing wide band speech support (Bluetooth A2DP codecs).
@igor871 Very interested to learn more about such Bluetooth audio cards. Years ago I had a Plantronics headset (Voyager?) that came with a USB dongle that presented itself as a USB sound card to the operating system, and it was perfect (two-way HD audio). But the dongle (Plantronics BT300 and BT600) is only compatible with Plantronics headsets from what I understand. I've looked at the Creative Labs USB Bluetooth sound cards (BT-W2 and BT-W3), but the first one requires the FastStream codec to provide high quality two way audio, which is rare, and the second just includes an analog mic that you plug into to your laptop's mic-in port - hardly a solution (I may as well use my laptop's in-built mic). They do support two way audio with your headset's mic, but only in classic HFP mode, which is what we already have. Are you aware of any other solutions? I would pay good money for a USB dongle that presents itself as a sound card to the OS and supports HFP 1.6 HD two way audio. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to bluez in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1838151 Title: Poor quality audio with modern Bluetooth headsets in HSP/HFP. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1903909] Re: Audio keeps on popping and "bitcrunching" (digital output) at semi-random constant intervals
For now, after I unplugged the other one, it seems that this problem was caused due to having the external RME Fireface UFX connected into firewire, although it was not in use and not selected as my default card (I had chosen the internal built-in audio in all settings I could think of.) It probably has to do something with the kernel probing for whether not the soundcard is "still there", or some kind of similar override/priority conflict in the audio layer. Note that my previous Ubuntu build with 20.04.1LTS and the 5.4.x kernel tree did not even recognize the sound card, and as mentioned in my previous bug report considering that, my entire audio went suddenly dead with a mundane apt update. Finding absolutely no solution to that whatsoever, I just updated to 20.10 and got my audio back (AND my second, external RME sound card was visible to Ubuntu.) I have now had the external RME card unplugged for a while now and there's no more digital audio glitching. So, the fundamental issue is NOT solved, but this is the workaround for now. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1903909 Title: Audio keeps on popping and "bitcrunching" (digital output) at semi- random constant intervals Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: This is with both of my sound cards, no matter which one I choose, the digital audio output is either popping with loud snaps or "frequency- modulating" (sounds around the same like someone would've filtered everything into a very narrow bandwidth for a couple of seconds.) [Touch-packages] [Bug 1902109] Re: rsync uses lchmod and fails in Ubuntu >= 20.10 if /proc isn't mounted
** Also affects: glibc (Ubuntu Groovy) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: rsync (Ubuntu Groovy) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to rsync in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1902109 Title: rsync uses lchmod and fails in Ubuntu >= 20.10 if /proc isn't mounted Status in GLibC: Confirmed Status in glibc package in Ubuntu: New Status in rsync package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in glibc source package in Groovy: New Status in rsync source package in Groovy: New Bug description: Rsync in Ubuntu 20.10 fails when /proc isn't mounted, while it worked before. This happens because AC_CHECK_FUNC(lchmod) returns "yes" in 20.10, while it returned "no" before. Steps to reproduce: # Emulate /proc not being mounted $ mount --bind / /mnt $ chroot /mnt rsync -a /bin/ls . rsync: [receiver] failed to set permissions on "/.ls.CDExhu": Operation not supported (95) rsync error: some files/attrs were not transferred (see previous errors) (code 3) at main.c(1330) [sender=3.2.3] I reported this issue upstream in https://github.com/WayneD/rsync/issues/109 but the rsync developer says it's a problem in libc, and it might well be. Simple C code to reproduce the problem without rsync: printf("lchmod returned: %d\n", lchmod("/tmp/ls", 0755)); If /tmp/ls is e.g. mode=0123, and needs to be changed, lchmod fails when /proc isn't mounted, yet it succeeds if it is mounted. Python had a similar issue, and they ended up avoiding AC_CHECK_FUNC(lchmod) under Linux: https://bugs.python.org/issue34652 https://github.com/python/cpython/commit/69e96910153219b0b15a18323b917bd74336d229#diff-49473dca262eeab3b4a43002adb08b4db31020d190caaad1594b47f1d5daa810R3140 ```c if test "$MACHDEP" != linux; then AC_CHECK_FUNC(lchmod) fi ``` So I'm not sure which package is causing the bug here. Should autoconf return false? Should libc implement lchown without the bug? Or should rsync skip lchmod under Linux, like python did? [Touch-packages] [Bug 1903886] [NEW] Wrong driver is chosen
Public bug reported: When adding an Epson Stylus SX235W (and possibly others) to Ubuntu 20.04 there is no error, but prints are heavily misaligned: colors are vertically off of centimetres. Driver is epson-201108w and model is recognized as "Epson Stylus Scan 2500 foomatic/stcolor" If before installing the printer, you install the package printer- driver-gutenprint, it will be recognized as "Epson Stylus SX215+Gutenprint v5.3.3" and will work correctly. As an additional note: in my previous Ubuntu 20.04 installation the printer installed but had an error on printing and I installed the package looking at CUPS logs. In a fresh installation, no error is shown, the prints work but with totally misaligned colors. I think this is a regression. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1903516] Re: aborted (core dumped) when using ConnectTimeout > 2147483
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report. Could you please provide the core dump file to help us investigate your problem? Since there is not enough information in your report to begin triage or to differentiate between a local configuration problem and a bug in Ubuntu, I am marking this bug as "Incomplete". We would be grateful if you would: provide a more complete description of the problem, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to "New". For local configuration issues, you can find assistance here: http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community ** Changed in: openssh (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to openssh in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1903516 Title: aborted (core dumped) when using ConnectTimeout > 2147483 Status in openssh package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: The ssh client fails with the message "Aborted (core dumped)" when setting the ConnectTimeout to 2147484 or higher. lsb_release: Linux Mint 20 (but also tested this on latest ubuntu:20.04 docker container) openssh-client version: 1:8.2p1-4ubuntu0.1 I expected that either the connect timeout would be used correctly, or that it would fail with a proper error message saying the connect timeout can't be higher than 2147483. Re: [Touch-packages] [Bug 1903048] Re: [SRU] Bluetooth won't activate on the pi 400
Hi, I implemented the fix detailed in the test case yesterday and the bug still existed. I've double checked again this morning and done a full-upgrade just to check nothing new was waiting and the bug still exists on this Mate 20.10 install. Yesterday after applying the fix I started getting random "System problem detected, report this?" popups but none so far today. Blueman Applet is set as a startup item and both blueman-applet and blueman-tray appear as running processes but running blueman-manager or blueman-adapters from the command line both fail with the message 'Blueman applet needs to be running' The Bluetooth panel item isnt shown. OS: Ubuntu MATE 20.10 aarch64 Host: Raspberry Pi 400 Rev 1.0 Kernel: 5.8.0-1007-raspi Tony On 11/11/2020 04:32, Launchpad Bug Tracker wrote: > This bug was fixed in the package bluez - 5.55-0ubuntu2 > > --- > bluez (5.55-0ubuntu2) hirsute; urgency=medium > >* Added patches from the Raspberry Pi Foundation > - d/p/raspi-bcm43xx-load-firmware.patch > - d/p/raspi-bcm43xx-3wire.patch > - d/p/raspi-cypress-305-bdaddr.patch >* These patches fix Bluetooth operation on the Pi 400 (LP: #1903048) > > -- Dave Jones Thu, 05 Nov 2020 13:39:07 > + > > ** Changed in: bluez (Ubuntu Hirsute) > Status: Fix Committed => Fix Released > -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to bluez in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1903048 Title: [SRU] Bluetooth won't activate on the pi 400 Status in bluez package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in bluez source package in Hirsute: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] Without these patches, Bluetooth is inoperable on the recently released Raspberry Pi 400. [Test Case] * Boot the Ubuntu Desktop for Pi image on a Pi 400. * Start the Settings application and switch to the Bluetooth tab * Verify that Bluetooth is not enabled and attempting to activate it fails * sudo add-apt-repository ppa:waveform/pi-bluetooth * sudo apt update * sudo apt install bluez * sudo reboot * Start the Settings application and switch to the Bluetooth tab * Verify that Bluetooth is active and that Bluetooth devices (e.g. mice, mobile phones, headphones, etc.) can connect and operate correctly [Regression Potential] Extremely low (on groovy in particular, this has the same version of bluez as hirsute). [Touch-packages] [Bug 1898447] Re: HDMI sound output disappears after sleep
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1888598 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1888598 ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1888598 pulseaudio breaks hdmi audio on sleep/wake in ubuntu 20.10 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1898447 Title: HDMI sound output disappears after sleep Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I am using an Nvidia graphics card with HDMI output. The sound output choice for HDMI is missing from either pavucontrol or the GNOME settings sound settings after waking the computer up from sleep. Running `pacmd list-cards` does show the HDMI sound output listed. I can bring the output back as a choice if I run `pulseaudio -k`, but I will lose the choice to select this output if I put the computer to sleep, leaving me only with the S/PDIF output from my motherboard.
