  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Launch Ubuntu MATE 20.04 LTS installer in OEM mode
  2. Confirm using English locale
  3. While setting OS for end user specify Russian language, confirm system
configuration
  4. Login to the configured system

+ hotkey

  Actual result:
  * the keyboard layout switcher shows two layouts - *en* and *ru*, but does

  XKBMODEL="pc105"
  XKBLAYOUT="us,ru"

I just double clicked on the .deb file to open it in Gdebi.
Gdebi opened and checked the file. I clicked on install and then the program
terminates.
I tried it again and the same thing.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1922338] [NEW] Bluetooth not working after reboot after upgrade to 21.04

2)

Output from systemctl after reboot:

  Gdebi quitting on installing .deb files.
  Double clicking on a .deb file caused gdebi to open and check the file for
installation. Then when you click on install the program terminates.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1803391] Re: Systemd update installation hangs in unattended-upgrades InstallOnShutdown mode

2021-04-02 Thread Marcin Janowski
When i do upgrade form 18.04 to 20.04 with do-release-upgrade my system reboots
on systemctl daemon-reexec from /var/lib/dpkg/info/systemd.postinst code:
```
# skip daemon-reexec and try-restarts during shutdown to avoid hitting LP:
#1803391
if [ -n "$2" ] && [ "$(systemctl is-system-running)" != "stopping" ]; then
_systemctl daemon-reexec || true
# don't restart logind; this can be done again once this gets implemented:
# https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/1163
_systemctl try-restart systemd-networkd.service || true
_systemctl try-restart systemd-resolved.service || true
_systemctl try-restart systemd-journald.service || true
fi
```

command systemctl is-system-running return degradated.

If i execute systemctl daemon-reexec from hand while do-release-upgrade
waiting for accept changes on journald.conf, my system hangs.

There is strace -ff systemctl daemon-reexec:

  [Impact]

   * Installation of latest systemd update in -security hangs with
  current versions of unattended-upgrades in supported releases. The
  u-u-side fix is tracked in LP: #1778219.

  [Regression Potential]

   * The daemons, shipped in deb:systemd, are not attempted to be
  restarted because despite package installation the system is in the
  middle of shutting down. This means that currently running daemons may
  be helding up open files on the filesystem, however all process are
  being stopped and killed as part of shutdown. Hence the worst possible
  regression from this, is an unclean shutdown, but even that shouldn't
  happen with this update.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1912331] Re: Many interfaces lead to "kernel receive buffer overrun"

2021-04-02 Thread transeunte
I have 4 servers with Ubuntu 20.04.2 with more than 5 physical ethernets
interfaces each (one of then has 18 ethernets) and I had the problem
with 2 of them.

I can give you access to one of the servers with bug if needed. It's not
in production yet and I can cleanup everything after debug.

I tried to emulate the problem using KVM. I saw errors too (apparently
non directly related with this issue) when use a lot of interfaces with
bridges and vlans.

Maybe this script can help to debug:

  On Mate, the LightDM Gtk Greeter can't use the user background. It
  works fine on other DEs like Xfce.

  From what I understand, LightDM and/or the Gkt greeter (not sure which
  one handles the background) gets the background path from Gsettings,
  so I assume it can't find the one from Mate, which stores it in
  "org.mate.background picture-filename".

Bug description:
  I'm reporting this against xorg, because of where the problem occurs,
  as indicated below, I can't tell if the problem is with xorg, lightdm
  or light-locker. The system is a Dell Optiplex 745 single-booting to
  Xubuntu 20.04 up-to-date as of today.

  I replaced one of 2 monitors, the one rotated to portrait orientation, with a
higher resolution monitor. Started the system, logged in as another user and
changed the desktop background however, when I then logged out and restarted
the system, it behaved normally until it displayed the usual
  /dev/sda1: clean, x/x files, /x blocks
  on both monitors. The prompt remained for a few seconds, slowly blinked off
and on 6 times, and then remained with no further activity. The system works
fine if I boot from a Xubuntu 18.04 DVD (I didn't have a 20.04 DVD, and this is
the only machine with a burner). On another machine, I determined that the
system was booting, because the machine was visible on the network, and its
shared folders were accessible.

  I could get to a login prompt and log on using Alt+F1 to F6. Alt-F7
  returned me to the file system check prompt. I was able to start xorg
  after logging on with startx, and changing all settings for the new
  monitor, everything worked normally until logging out, which of course
  returned me to the command line where I had given the command startx.

  If I log out requesting a restart, the system reboots, but still stops at the
same place every time. That behavior hadn't changed the next day. I can use the
machine, but only by selecting a terminal, logging as myself or the other user
and giving the startx command. I have been unable to find anything on the
Internet that corrects the problem. Since the problem first started, two
crashes have occurred and I allowed them to be reported; however, they were
light-locker crashes. I reinstalled lightdm and light-locker, but that made no
difference. I installed gdm3, which works fine, but switching back to lightdm
with:
  sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm3
  sudo dpkg --configure lightdm
  resulted in:
  dpkg: error processing package lightdm (--configure):
   package lightdm is already installed and configured
  Errors were encountered while processing:
   lightdm

  So I can't really be sure if the problem is with xorg, lightdm or
  light-locker, but since there are no error messages and everything
  else works fine, it's clearly a bug, if a strange one. I do not relish
  the idea of having to reinstall Xubuntu; so for the time being, I'll
  use gdm3, though I prefer lightdm's ability to properly display
  backdrops and use the two monitors properly extended (with gdm3, the
  mouse moves down the left portrait monitor before moving onto the
  right monitor where gdm3 sees fit to put the logon dialog). The next
  thing I'll try is autoremoving lightdm rebooting a few times and then
  reinstalling it...

  Because of the absence of error messages and information even
  suggesting why X isn't starting, I have no idea what other information
  about my system might be useful to you, but if you need something
  additional, I'll try to provide it.

  else works fine, it's clearly a bug, if a strange one.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1913763] Autopkgtest regression report (systemd/229-4ubuntu21.31)

Status in systemd source package in Bionic:

Status in systemd source package in Focal:

Bug description:
  [impact]

  the /dev/ptp0 device for a hyperv instance may not be the correct,
  hyperv-provided, ptp device.

  [test case]

  on some hyperv instance types, particularly those that might contain
  passthrough network card(s) that also provide ptp, the first ptp
  device may not be the correct one to use for ptp, e.g. there may be
  multiple ones:

  $ ls /dev/ptp*
  /dev/ptp0 /dev/ptp1
  $ cat /sys/class/ptp/ptp0/clock_name
  hyperv
  $ cat /sys/class/ptp/ptp1/clock_name
  mlx5_p2p

  the order can change across boots, so a consistent way of addressing
  the hyperv-provided one is needed

  [regression potential]

  any regression would involve failure to properly create the ptp
  symlink, or other failure while udev is processing newly detected ptp
  device(s)

  [scope]

  this is needed in all releases

  this was fixed upstream with the commit
  32e868f058da8b90add00b2958c516241c532b70 which is not yet included in
  any release

  [original description]

  Hyperv provides a PTP device. On system with multiple PTP devices,
  services like Chrony don't have a way to know which one is which.

  We would like to have a udev rule to create a symlink to the hyperv
  clock. This way, services could be configured to always use this clock
  no matter if it is ptp0, ptp1, etc..

  For example:

  ```
  SUBSYSTEM=="ptp", ATTR{clock_name}=="hyperv", SYMLINK += "ptp_hyperv"
  ```

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1922212] Re: SSHD does not honor configuration files

2021-04-02 Thread Utkarsh Gupta
Hello Jerrey,

Thank you for taking out time to file a bug and making the Ubuntu server
better.

It's a bit upsetting that you're hitting this bug. Can you share your
entire conf, please? This would help me better analyze the problem and
help me reproduce it.

While at it, could you also help me provide steps to reproduce this
easily? I can make out the issue but having straightforward steps
written will help me debug this fast enough.

That said, I found a link to stack exchange that might help:
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/218034/disabling-ssh-password-authentication-does-not-work-on-my-debian-vps
Let me know if it helps? Also, does restarting sshd help?

I am marking this bug as "Incomplete" for now. Once you provide the
necessary details, please mark it back to "New" and then we can take a
look and help debug further. Thanks! :)

Title:
  SSHD does not honor configuration files

Status in openssh package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I'm working on Ubuntu 20, x86_64, fully patched.

 # lsb_release -a
 Distributor ID:Ubuntu
 Description:   Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS
 ...

  We are seeing reports of failed password-based logins using root:

 jounralctl -xe

 Apr 01 09:08:21 localhost sshd[239302]: Failed password for root from
49.88.112.77 port 36206 ssh2
 ...

  There are three attempts every second or two (literally):

 # journalctl -xe | grep -i -c 'Failed password for root'
 324

  Our OpenSSH server is configured with both no-password based logins
  and no-root logins.

 # ls /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/
 10_pubkey_auth.conf  20_disable_root_login.conf

 # cat /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/10_pubkey_auth.conf
 # Disable passwords
 PasswordAuthentication no
 ChallengeResponseAuthentication no
 UsePAM no
 # Enable public key
 PubkeyAuthentication yes

 # cat /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/20_disable_root_login.conf
 PermitRootLogin no

  The config files are included last in our /etc/ssh/sshd_config file:

 # tail -n 3 /etc/ssh/sshd_config

 # For some reason OpenSSH does not include additional conf files by
default.
 Include /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/*.conf

  I dislike modifying /etc/ssh/sshd_config since it will be overwritten
  by the distro. With that said, I modified it without success.

  It really annoys me that we can't secure this service. Something looks
  very broken here.

The following regressions have been reported in tests triggered by the package:

conntrack-tools/unknown (armhf)
pyudev/unknown (armhf)
linux-aws-hwe/unknown (arm64)
kwin/unknown (armhf)
nplan/0.32~16.04.7 (amd64, ppc64el)

Please visit the excuses page listed below and investigate the failures,

  [test case]

  on some hyperv instance types, particularly those that might contain
  passthrough network card(s) that also provide ptp, the first ptp
  device may not be the correct one to use for ptp, e.g. there may be
  multiple ones:

  $ ls /dev/ptp*

  $ cat /sys/class/ptp/ptp0/clock_name
  hyperv
  $ cat /sys/class/ptp/ptp1/clock_name
  mlx5_p2p

  the order can change across boots, so a consistent way of addressing
  the hyperv-provided one is needed

  [regression potential]

  any regression would involve failure to properly create the ptp
  symlink, or other failure while udev is processing newly detected ptp
  device(s)

  [scope]

  [original description]

  Hyperv provides a PTP device. On system with multiple PTP devices,
  services like Chrony don't have a way to know which one is which.

  We would like to have a udev rule to create a symlink to the hyperv
  clock. This way, services could be configured to always use this clock
  no matter if it is ptp0, ptp1, etc..

  For example:

  ```
  SUBSYSTEM=="ptp", ATTR{clock_name}=="hyperv", SYMLINK += "ptp_hyperv"
  ```

  isc-dhcp-server 4.3.5. Running the exact same commands on the peer
  works reliably. (They are using the same python script to drive
  omshell.) The DHCP server on the new system appears to be working
  just fine as reported by omshell on the peer and systemctl.

  I was curious if the problem could be with the mis-matched versions
  of isc-dhcp-server so I shutdown isc-dhcp-server on the 18.04 system
  and get the same results.

  I also tried using a python script with the pypureomapi module to
  try and determine if the problem was in omshell or the server. I
  got very similar results when I attempted to get information about
  the failover state of the server. Interestingly interrogating
  the server about host information seems to work just fine.

  This is a critical bug since I don't see how to fail over a DHCP
  that is running the isc-dhcp-server on 20.04 without being able
  to issue omapi commands.

  I am attaching apport output to this bug report.

  UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install)

  Since approximately 16/03/2021 ubiquity from maybe-ubiquity (try
  install screen) and from the live session is crashing on launch or
  shortly after.

  Cases where the crash can be triggered:

  - Using a Virtualbox VM, where graphics acceleration is handled by mesa with
LLVMPIPE
  - Start the ISO on real hardware in 'safe graphics mode'

  Cases where the crash is not encountered:
  - Start the ISO on real intel (HD graphics) hardware with full acceleration.

  NOTE: The crash can be avoided by downgrading MESA 21.0.x packages to
  the previous 20.3.4 in hirsute.

  Try/Install crash:

  Screen fails to start, or starts then crashes on any user action. The
  user is presented with:

  "Installation failed - The installer encountered an unrecoverable error.
  A desktop session will now be run so that you may investigate the problem or
try installing again"

  Live session crash:

  The installer does not start from the desktop icon. Starting ubiquity
  from the terminal results in an "Aborted (core dumped)" message and
  nothing else.

  An example /var/log/installer/debug log from a session where both
  crashes were triggered is below.

Title:
  isc-dhcp-client denied by apparmor

Status in isc-dhcp package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Hi, I get weird errors in the audit log, seeing dhclient is being
  denied reading its comm or the comm of one of its tasks:

  [1383307.827378] audit: type=1400 audit(1615367094.054:162):

name="/proc/1095210/task/1095213/comm" pid=1095210 comm="dhclient"
requested_mask="wr" denied_mask="wr" fsuid=0 ouid=0

  This might or might not be linked with the fact that I can't get an
  IPv4 on this interface. Note that it happened to other, see this
  comment:

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/1413232/comments/8

  Or even an article recommending disabling apparmor for dhclient(!):

https://blog.anthony-jacob.com/perte-dip-v4-sous-ubuntu-20-04-apparmor-et-dhclient/

  As I said, I'm not sure this is the root cause of the lack of IPv4 renewal,
because running it manually *does* succeed in getting an IP. And running it in
strace shows the EACCES failure:

  [pid 1095210] openat(AT_FDCWD, "/proc/self/task/1095211/comm", O_RDWRstrace:
Process 1095211 attached
  ) = -1 EACCES (Permission non accordée)

Status in systemd source package in Xenial:

Status in systemd source package in Bionic:

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Systems without hwclock come up with a fixed time epoch which is not
updated in SRUs
   * Ideally booting with a newer built of systemd should move time epoch to be
at least when systemd was last built. For example to the value of
SOURCE_DATE_EPOCH.

  [Test Case]

   * Boot without network NTP or hwclock
   * Observe that the epoch is the same as the time when NEWS entry in the
systemd source code was last touched.
   * Boot newer update of systemd, observe that the time epoch is at least 2020

  [Regression Potential]

   * Bad epoch, may result in unable to perform TLS connections,
  validated GPG signatures, and snapd assertions. Changing epoch to be
  more recent is desired. Some machines may rely on the fact that
  "bionic" without hwclock always comes up in year 2018. But in practice
  that is incorrect thing to do.

  [Other Info]

   * By default

  option('time-epoch', type : 'integer', value : '-1',
 description : 'time epoch for time clients')

  in systemd is set to the modification time of the NEW entry
  time_epoch = run_command(stat, '-c', '%Y', NEWS).stdout().to_int()

  If available, it should be set to SOURCE_DATE_EPOCH=1585051767 value
  to be compliant with the https://reproducible-
  builds.org/docs/timestamps/ specification.

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:

Status in systemd source package in Focal:

Status in systemd source package in Groovy:

Bug description:
  DisplayLink uses these udev rules to start the displaylink service
  when a displaylink device is plugged in:

  ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", DRIVERS=="usb",
  ATTR{idVendor}=="17e9", IMPORT{builtin}="usb_id",
  ENV{DISPLAYLINK_DEVNAME}="$env{DEVNAME}",

ENV{DISPLAYLINK_DEVICE_ID}="$env{ID_BUS}-$env{BUSNUM}-$env{DEVNUM}-$env{ID_SERIAL}",
  ENV{REMOVE_CMD}="/opt/displaylink/udev.sh $root
  $env{DISPLAYLINK_DEVICE_ID} $env{DISPLAYLINK_DEVNAME}"

  ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", DRIVERS=="usb",

  ATTR{bInterfaceProtocol}=="03", IMPORT{parent}="DISPLAYLINK*",
  RUN+="/opt/displaylink/udev.sh $root $env{DISPLAYLINK_DEVICE_ID}
  $env{DISPLAYLINK_DEVNAME}"

  The important thing to note here is that the first rule is for the
  device that is the parent of the device triggers the second rule, and
  the first rule sets ENV{DISPLAYLINK_DEVNAME} and
  ENV{DISPLAYLINK_DEVICE_ID}, and the second rule attempts to import
  them with IMPORT{parent} and then use them.

  This worked fine in 20.04.

  It does not work in 21.04.

  When the second rule is triggered, DISPLAYLINK_DEVICE_ID and
  DISPLAYLINK_DEVNAME are not set.

  I have confirmed via udevadm monitor that the variables are getting
  set on the parent.

  I have confirmed via udevadm info --attribute-walk that the device
  triggering the second rule is the child of the device triggering the
  first one.

  I have tried to import the variables explicitly instead of using a
  glob pattern and that doesn't work either.

  When I modify the rule to import DEVNAME, ID_BUS, BUSNUM, DEVNUM, and
  ID_SERIAL directly, that works. The problem appears to be that these
  custom properties we are setting in the parent can't be imported in
  the child.

  $ ls /dev/ptp*
  /dev/ptp0 /dev/ptp1
  $ cat /sys/class/ptp/ptp0/clock_name
  hyperv
  $ cat /sys/class/ptp/ptp1/clock_name
  mlx5_p2p

  the order can change across boots, so a consistent way of addressing
  the hyperv-provided one is needed

  [regression potential]

  any regression would involve failure to properly create the ptp
  symlink, or other failure while udev is processing newly detected ptp
  device(s)

  [scope]

  this is needed in all releases

  this was fixed upstream with the commit
  32e868f058da8b90add00b2958c516241c532b70 which is not yet included in
  any release

  [original description]

  Hyperv provides a PTP device. On system with multiple PTP devices,
  services like Chrony don't have a way to know which one is which.

  We would like to have a udev rule to create a symlink to the hyperv
  clock. This way, services could be configured to always use this clock
  no matter if it is ptp0, ptp1, etc..

  For example:

  ```
  SUBSYSTEM=="ptp", ATTR{clock_name}=="hyperv", SYMLINK += "ptp_hyperv"
  ```

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1920130] Re: System icons missing in kubuntu 21.04

2021-04-02 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
@poet_imp Thanks for the logs! Unfortunately, these are only the latest
logs and they don't explain what happened when you upgraded Ubuntu.

Maybe you can attach the historical logs from /var/log/apt too? They
have names like history.log.*.gz and term.log.*.gz. If you upgraded
recently, then I guess it would be *.1.gz. Otherwise you can look at
modification dates.

Bug description:
  Hi, just testing Kubuntu 21.04 on a spare machine. The upgrade
  initially was fine, but I then install kdenlive and krita which has
  messed up the system icons and window decorations (corners of windows
  are showing black squares).

  I have been through all the normal checks and even created a new user,
  but the bug still persists. The system Icons are broken in the system
  and nothing to do with the user account.

  lsb_release -rd
  Description:Ubuntu Hirsute Hippo (development branch)
  Release:21.04

  Looking at the following may shed some light on the problem...

  Thanks, Paul.
