[Touch-packages] [Bug 1370376] Re: Can't receive MMS despite ability to send

2014-09-25 Thread Tomas Öqvist
After looking into the apns-conf.xml on the device, I previously noted
that settings for Tele2 Sweden did not quite match the APN settings for
Nexus 4 recommended by the carrier. Strangely enough, sending MMS still
works. See settings comparison below, the most notable differences being
MNC and APN type. I did try changing the APN settings and putting an
edited copy of apns-conf.xml in /custom/etc/ earlier, but that didn't
make any difference for receiving MMS.

Ubuntu Touch RTM:
http://mmsc.tele2.se";
  mmsproxy="130.244.202.30"
  mmsport="8080"
  type="mms"
  mvno_match_data="Tele2"
  mvno_type="spn"
  />

Tele2 Sweden MMS suggested settings for Nexus 4:
Name - Tele2
APN - 4g.tele2.se
Proxy - TBD (not determined)
Port - TBD
Username - TBD
Password - TBD
MMSC - http://mmsc.tele2.se
MMS proxy - 130.244.202.30
MMS port - 8080
MCC - 240
MNC - 07
Authentication type - TBD
APN type - default, supl, mms
APN protocol - IPv4
APN roaming protocol - IPv4

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1318360] Re: Poor microphone quality (mako)

2014-09-25 Thread Tomas Öqvist
I guess that Android applies some kind of filter to prevent the
distortion somehow picked up by the mic. Sound gets worse if I speak in
a louder voice and the output at the other end is apparantly very loud
also. As Nexus 4 is still the main phone used for Ubuntu Touch, I
believe the platform would benefit greatly if this issue could be solved
sooner than later.

Bug description:
After months of complaints from people talking to me on the phone
(mako ubuntu touch), I finally got around to use multiROM to dual boot
Ubuntu Touch and Android. Several people can confirm that there is a
noticable difference in terms of sound/microphone quality between
Android and UT in phone calls. With UT, my voice gets distorted to an
extent that person at the other end have real difficulties to hear
what I am saying, while with Android call quality is much better with
  no distortion.

I have had a suspicion for a long time that this might be a software
and not a hardware issue. After trying Android and Ubuntu on the same
hardware I believe this suspicion is proved correct. This issue has
persisted in all the builds I have tried since at least the beginning
of the year, but probably longer. I am now at r17 of Utopic.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1369474] Re: Conversation tagged with wrong contact after sending sms

2014-09-25 Thread Tomas Öqvist
This is a nasty bug, because I am only encountering it once in a while
and so far I haven't been able to determine when it occurs other than
just sending an sms to somebody in my phone book. I have seen it with a
number of different contacts, whom have no phone numbers in common.
Sometimes I get the name of a contact that is no 3 or 4 in the chat
list, sometimes it "kids" me with the no 2 on the list. I just sent a
text and did not encounter the bug. I will monitor this further and try
to see if it possible to see any kind of pattern.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1374288] [NEW] upstart package should also include a systemd unit for failsafe boot

2014-09-25 Thread Dylan Borg
Public bug reported:

Currently the failsafe boot service is only shipped as an upstart job.
Since in utopic there is an ongoing transition to systemd there is a
race between upstart and systemd when it comes to networking. Network
manager may be getting started by systemd (package has a systemd unit

Most users and many administrators are not going to notice the new

least give them a obvious hint about it.

Even better would be to prompt the user to generate the keys with a
debconf question like was recently done with the "Change to
  "PermitRootLogin without-password"".

I would like to label this as a security vulnerability, but that may
be a bit over the top, it would be a security improvement!

   qDebug() << "=== query run() 1";
   unity::scopes::OnlineAccountClient
oa_client("com.canonical.scopes.fbphotos_fbphotos", "fbphotos", "facebook");
   qDebug() << "=== query run() 2";

Until I authorize the app in OA > facebook account > settings, I get
  this:

  === query run() 1
  === query run() 2

At this point, I do see the "Log In" reply displayed in the scope, and
things are looking good. So I go to OA and authorize the app.

But after this, we never return from the instantiation of the
oa_client, and I see this *only*:

  === query run() 1

  Seems to hang on
  unity::scopes::OnlineAccountClient oa_client(...)

  Any thoughts?

https://launchpad.net/~diwic/+archive/ubuntu/hda

Install snd-hda-tools and run hda-jack-sense-test to find out whether rear
Mic Jack , line in and front Mic report correct Jack state when you plugged
and unplugged

If it work in windows, you may need to file an upstream bug report

If rear Mic Jack cannot report correct Jack state,

The workaround is disable Jack detection of rear Mic jack by hda-jack-
retask

Yes, in this situation, the default-source->active_port->available=no,
if you use this module and pass "only_from_unavailable=yes", when
connect bluetooth headset, the default source will automatically switch
to bluez-source.

In this situation, if you plug something in the line-in jack, the
default-source->active_port-available=yes, and if you pass
"only_from_unavailable=yes", the default source will not switch.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1373781] Re: bash incomplete fix for CVE-2014-6271

2014-09-25 Thread Fumihito YOSHIDA
Hi,

Red Hat released new packages at
https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2014-1306.html, that include fix for
CVE-2014-7169, and they fixed with another way, and another problems
(OOB memory access).

We can investigate from RH SRPM,
http://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/enterprise/6Server/en/os/SRPMS/bash-4.1.2-15.el6_5.2.src.rpm

IMHO, Red Hat fix included 3 patches.
 - bash-4.2-cve-2014-7169-0.patch : parser bug fix-A for CVE-2014-7169 (same as
http://seclists.org/oss-sec/2014/q3/685 )
 - bash-4.2-cve-2014-7169-1.patch : introduce variable isolation in function
import situation. another fix for CVE-2014-7169. this is new patch.
 - bash-4.2-cve-2014-7169-2.patch : OOB memory access(new problem) fix.

They probosed these new patches at http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-
security/2014/09/25/32 .

I make a proposition about that, could we apply these new patches? or
they are not important?

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * When setting up primary display driver fails an attempt to load vesafb
module is undertaken. This fails since from 3.13.0-16.36 version
vesafb is compiled in the kernel (so no actual modprobing is needed).
This causes false alert in the log:
"Starting load fallback graphic devices: [fail]"

  [Test Case]

   * Start Ubuntu unable to load primary graphics driver (the simplest way is
to remove module responsible for the device).
   * Wait for loading graphics devices.
   * If the primary device module has failed to load, falling back to vesafb
will be attempted.

  [Regression Potential]

   * Implemented by the bug reported.

   * Affects only the debian/ directory.

  [Other Info]

   * Original bug description:

The udev-fallback-graphics.conf script tries to load vesafb module if
PRIMARY_DEVICE_FOR_DISPLAY has not been set earlier.

The problem is that from kernel version 3.13.0-16.36 vesafb is
compiled in permanently into the kernel (CONFIG_FB_VESA=y), so
whenever the fallback mode is triggered this script will FAIL
  confusing the users.

Most probably this file is no longer needed (or it just be used to
  print informative message).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1369424] Re: LibreOffice windows and dialogs do not receive focus on startup (KDE, Razorqt)

2014-09-25 Thread cleary
I've logged this with the QT Bugtracker as well:

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu

Title:
LibreOffice windows and dialogs do not receive focus on startup (KDE,
  Razorqt)

Status in “qt4-x11” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I hope I've got the correct package to log this against.

  Symptom:
LibreOffice dialogs (such as password prompts, plaintext/csv imports etc) do
not receive WM focus if a LibreOffice app is running and minimised.
This causes a fairly severe usability issue, where it seems like LibreOffice
has crashed, since nothing seems to happen when you click (and continue to
click) to open a file that requires user action on a dialog.

I've replicated the issue in KDE and RazorQT which is why I'm logging
  it against this qt-x11 package.

It affects 12.04 and 14.04 (tested, I imagine there are more)

The issue does not occur in Unity or Gnome.

I made two videos - based on:

Ubuntu 12.04, bog standard install. Add kde via:
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

  add this ppa:
https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/libreoffice-4-3
upgrade all libreoffice packages to 4.3.0.4:
sudo apt-get install $(dpkg -l | grep libreoffice | awk '{print $2}')

Video 1: Unity Desktop, expected (correct) behaviour
  https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxhtBAYzjZj5V1V1NjRTRVRKZ0E/edit?usp=sharing

Video 2: Logged out of Unity, logged into KDE Desktop - unexpected behaviour,

Bug description:

enabled, i.e. put phone on table

In order to wake the phone up user needs to push power button
  * Screen should turn on when the phone is moved
  The greeter is also shown
  * Greeter should never be shown during an active call

  ---

Nor the any other lock screens

  See description below:
  Steps to reproduce:

  1. set up a passcode/passphrase on device
  2. lock device or wait until it locks automatically
  3. call device
  4. accept call
  5. wait until device locks screen (timeout) or lock manually via hard key
button
  6. unlock device

  Actual result:
The Greeter is shown and has to be moved out of the way and then user has to
unlock device via the passcode/passphrase screen.

  Expected result:
The device should not time out/lock on an active call. Even if the device
locked manually (via hard key button) and unlocked again, user should be
presented with the active call screen.
If user tries to access contacts, add someone to the call or start a 2nd call
or access settings, the passcode/passphrase screen should be presented to
unlock device & user will be redirected to the correct action/function.

Bug description:
Prerequisite: You should already have taken a photo with the Krillins
  camera

  1. Open the System Settings application
  2. Open the Background panel
  3. From the 'Custom' section select 'Add an Image'
  4. Choose the image that you took with the phones camera from the gallery
  5. Confirm that the image appears in preview correctly and press 'Set'
  6. Confirm that the image is selected in the Background panel
  7. Press the power button twice, to return the phone to the lock screen
  8. Confirm that the image is shown as the background on the lock screen

Steps 5 and 8 fail since the image is black

This is very similar behaviour to :
https://launchpad.net/bugs/1373462, but might not be a duplicate since
when that bug was reported, Krillin camera images did work.

Bug description:
I'm on image #203 on mako and use a German locale.

In other apps, the 24h format is used (which is what I, and other
Germans, would expect). In the messaging app however, I see "11:34
nachm.", which is supposed to mean "23:34". Unfortunately "nachm." is
short for "nachmittag", so "afternoon", which hardly makes sense for
23:34. This is due to the fact, that we have no good way of expressing
AM/PM in German, as it's simply not used.

If the messaging-app used the 24h format on a German locale, the
  problem would be fixed.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Messaging app
  2. Carry out a slow bottom edge swipe and stop when the bottom view covers
around 1/3rd of the screen without releasing your finger from the screen.
Release the finger.
  3. Current implementation: the bottom edge continues and the "compose new
message screen" is invoked.
  4. Tap the back button and cancel the new message
  5. Carry out a new swipe from the bottom edge but half way through, do a
short swipe back without releasing your finger from the screen (you might have
to do it several times).
  6. Current implementation: the swipe direction back (towards the bottom)
seems not recognized. The compose new view is still invoked.

  -
  Desired solution:
The "compose new" view should be invoked a little later than in the current
implementation. And the swipe direction recognition should be improved.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1366592] Re: empty lines are not shown in messages

2014-09-25 Thread Bill Filler
using the latest rtm build 59 I can confirm slightly different, but still
broken behavior.
The notification bubble now appends the lines together. The messaging-app just
ignores the blank line

list in your messages view
  2. Long press on any of the list items

  Actual Result:
  3. Header is changing and shows an X button on the left hand side and two
action buttons on the right hand side. Selection checkboxes appear from the
left hand side.

  Expected result - desired solution:
  - The header should display a BACK button instead of the "X" on the left hand
side, same as we have in all other headers
  - Remove the change in the background colour when a list item is selected,
change in the colour of the checkbox is enough
  - Add labels for all visible actions in this mode in the header, except for
'BACK'
  - Tapping on the BACK in this mode, cancels the multi-select mode and does
NOT navigate back to the previous view
  - There is no title in this header

Please see attached wireframe for reference. This change applies
across all apps which use a multi select in their list views.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1367916] Re: Phone freezes when trying to active the dialer app from the messaging menu

2014-09-25 Thread Bill Filler
I can confirm this still happens, with latest rtm build 59 on krillin

Steps to reproduce:
1) make sure you have a passcode lock setup on phone
2) make sure you have indicator allows to show on lock screen (default)
3) launch dialer app
4) lock the phone
5) call the phone and hang up before answering it, then wait till phone turns
off after 1 minute
6) turn on screen but don't unlock
7) pull down the messaging menu, and click on the Missed Call to expand it,
then tap in right corner to launch the app

Expected Results:
The passcode unlock screen should be shown

Actual Results:
The messaging menu stays visible, and you can't swipe it up or close it in any
way. The only way to recover is to lock and unlock the phone again.

Second Problem:
If you omit step 3 and don't first launch the dialer, the symptoms are
different. The dialer gets launched in step 7 and is visible but it's in
Emergency calling mode (because the phone is locked) so the call can't be made.
The correct thing to do in both cases is to display the passcode unlock screen.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1374207] Re: CVE-2014-7169 fix not effective on trusty

2014-09-25 Thread Harry Willis
As per comment #5 on bug #1373781, the executables appear not to have
been updated to their patched versions (forgot to recompile, I guess?)
before the packages were generated.

Appears to be the case all bash and bash-static packages of the
4.3-7ubuntu1.2 ilk.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1263278] Re: Use FFmpeg instead of Libav

Status in “libav” package in Debian:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Libav is supposed to be a drop-in replacement of FFmpeg.
  However, it isn't.
For example, many software uses libswresample, it is simply missing in Libav.

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/12651816/libswresample-in-recent-ubuntu-version
  https://github.com/hrydgard/ppsspp/issues/2322

BTW, the mindset of Libav is annoying at best.
  http://blog.pkh.me/p/13-the-ffmpeg-libav-situation.html

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9477115/who-can-tell-me-the-difference-and-relation-between-ffmpeg-libav-and-avconv

So I hope that Ubuntu can switch back to FFmpeg; let more software build.
Debian's political preference, e.g., Iceweasel, shouldn't affect a lot of
Ubuntu users out there.

2014-09-25 Thread mmk
I've played around with XBMC media player using android hw video decoding, and
used that function in the player.
While currently i don't use it, it would be a good idea to expose it for cases
like this, when somebody needs it.

Status in “libhybris” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
media_codec_create_by_codec_type is implemented but not exposed.

  In hybris/media/media.c, adding:

   HYBRIS_IMPLEMENT_FUNCTION1(media, MediaCodecDelegate,
  media_codec_create_by_codec_type, const char*);

enables the use of media_codec_create_by_codec_type, otherwise using
  it results in linker error.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1373781] Re: bash incomplete fix for CVE-2014-6271

2014-09-25 Thread Harry Willis
Marc, I've just upgraded to 4.3.7-ubuntu1.2 in trusty

assume was supposed to protect against the test case provided for

upgrade was successfully applied.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1322150] Re: Some tests became extremely flaky

2014-09-25 Thread Michi Henning
We haven't seen any more of these failures for some time, after lots of
fixes to the tests and run time. There are still sporadic failures due
to the Zmq context shut-down. We'll track these down eventually. For
now, I'm closing this bug. For any test failures we see from here on,
let's open separate bugs for each.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1372006] Re: pci_devices does not terminate at computer shutdown

2014-09-25 Thread ahau
** Description changed:

Shutdown does not halt on my Dell Precision 390
the shutdown sequence prints on the console:

  mount: / is busy

  /etc/init.d/sendsigs does not terminate systemd-udevd

Only solution: enable and use ALT-SYSREQ REISUB (to keep the root fs
  clean)

  I tried to change GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in /etc/default/grub (+
  update-grub):

  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet nosplash reboot=pci"  or
  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet nosplash reboot=bios" or
  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet nosplash acpi=force

Shutdown still hangs with 'mount: / is busy'
I even updated the BIOS from 2.0.4 to 2.06, no luck.

When booting from a Knoppix 6.0.1 CD with a 2.6 kernel, shutdown works
and halts the system to poweroff state.

  Any ideas?

Status in “unity-scopes-shell” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:

  - Go to the store scope.
  - Make sure it's not favorited. If it is favorited, unfav it then leave the
scope and return to it.
  - Tap on the icon of some "FREE" app that is not installed.
  - On the preview of the app, tap on "Install", and wait for the installation
to finish.
  - Click on the "<" button on the preview header to go back to the results.

  What happens:
  - The icon attributes still show "FREE"

  What should happen:
  - The scope should have been refreshed, and "✔INSTALLED" should be shown
instead

This works ok for scopes that are favorited.

It seems this bug is reported elsewhere in a number of other packages

I am told this patch can fix it.

Bug 1346299 & bug 1344386 are related (similar issue, different app).

Note that as this is dropbox, we cannot easily fix there as it's

[Touch-packages] [Bug 988337] Re: two chromium icons on the launcher

2014-09-25 Thread Václav Pavlík
It happened to me too and I found a solution:

1) Open /usr/share/applications/google-chrome.desktop with sudo
privileges in some editor.

2) Open Chromium or Chrome browser. Does not matter, if it shows in a
different icon or not.

3) Open a terminal and type:

xprop | grep WM_CLASS

4) Your mouse pointer will change into a cross. With this cross click
anywhere inside the Chrome/ium window. Something like this will show up
in the terminal:

WM_CLASS(STRING) = "Google-chrome-stable", "Google-chrome-stable"

5) In the editor, in which you opened the *.desktop file, write on the
second line (after the [Desktop Entry]):

StartupWMClass=Google-chrome-stable

or StartupWMClass=whatever was in the terminal output (in either of the
quotes).

6)Save the file and the result should be seen immediately.

Cheers.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1374183] [NEW] Dash is being drawn underneath application surface

2014-09-25 Thread Gerry Boland
Public bug reported:

Steps to repro:
1. Install qt3d5-examples package
2. Run the following command:

/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/qt5/examples/qt3d/cylinder
--desktop_file_hint=/usr/share/applications/mediaplayer-app.desktop

You'll see a cylinder on screen, but the dash underneath it.

By rights
1) the application surface should not have alpha enabled
2) the dash should not be drawing underneath an application surface.

** Affects: unity8 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

Bug description:
The new UI in build 89 uses the snap decision for connecting, and the
password entry is different as there is no longer an option to see the password
as it is entered.
I had to enter my 23 character passphrase 3 times as I could not reliably hit
the correct keys.
All other modern interfaces show the characters. Best approach could be show
the last character entered only, as most UIs do.

  -- SOLUTION --
This bug applies to a number of use cases: passwords, PINs, passphrases, etc.
Here's the desired solution:
