Don't be misled by the gadget.yamls which name different
architectures. ubuntu-image should be able to build a disk image for
  any architecture on any architecture.

What this test does is build the image, then run kpartx to map the
partitions in the image, and then mount the partitions. It doesn't do
anything other than ensure that the partitions can be mounted, and
  this is where it's failing.

This test succeeds on amd64, i386, and ppc64el. It's never passed on
s390x so that's not a regression. It *used* to pass on armhf even on
Zesty, but the recent upload of 0.13+17.10ubuntu2 displays the
  regression.

I will bugtask this to libdevmapper and kpartx since it's possibly a
bug in one of those packages (though I still suspect the kernel).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1672033] Re: Xorg does not work in rootless mode on nvidia proprietary drivers (GNOME)

2017-03-18 Thread Igor
A little bit of debugging and investigating confirm what is in log
above:

libmutter cannot get a monitor and crashes here:
https://github.com/GNOME/mutter/blob/master/src/backends/meta-backend.c#L128-L133

  primary =
meta_monitor_manager_get_primary_logical_monitor (monitor_manager);

  meta_backend_warp_pointer (backend,
 primary->rect.x + primary->rect.width / 2,
 primary->rect.y + primary->rect.height / 2);

because 'primary' is not a valid pointer.

So,
1. This should be reported to gnome/mutter developers, so they check all their
pointers and terminate in clean way with meta_fatal("failed to get primary
monitor"); or something like that.
2. We have to understand, why libmutter fails to get primary logical monitor.
Does Xorg need some permissions?

Bug description:
There are two bug reports in LP: #1559576, LP: #1632322 and also LP:
#164, where GDM does not start on proprietary nvidia drivers. As
it turned out, the reason for that was Xorg starting in rootless mode
and apparently not initializing everything properly, which was causing
  gnome-shell/libmutter to crash.

Installing xserver-xorg-legacy did partially fix those issues.

Enabling modesetting for nvidia driver however still causes the
  problem.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1326536] Re: libvirt's dnsmasq setup will read /etc/hosts on the host, resulting in odd resolution behaviour on the VM

2017-03-18 Thread Nathan Dorfman
I had the same problem (on 16.04.02) and came up with a rather dirty,
but quick and effective workaround.

Simply remove the libvirt-dnsmasq user's ability to read /etc/hosts:

sudo setfacl -m user:libvirt-dnsmasq:--- /etc/hosts

The libvirt dnsmasq instances will syslog a complaint when they start or
get HUP'd. Otherwise, it seems to work perfectly.

Status in lxc package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
When libvirt configures / starts up dnsmasq on the host, it does not
pass --no-hosts, resulting in it reading in the /etc/hosts file from
  the host.

The default ubuntu setup will have the host's hostname in /etc/hosts
under 127.0.1.1. Since libvirt's dnsmasq is reading this file,
anything querying that dnsmasq instance will resolve the host's
  hostname out of /etc/hosts.

The result of this is any VM running on the host will resolve the
host's hostname as 127.0.1.1. For example, if the host's hostname is
BoxA, any VM running on the host will resolve BoxA to 127.0.1.1, which
  is not BoxA's actual address.

Would recommend passing --no-hosts to dnsmasq when libvirt starts it
up. If a user wants hardcoded hosts for their libvirt network, they
can add them to /var/lib/libvirt/dnsmasq/default.addnhosts . If this
is an acceptable solution, I'd be happy to write the patch up.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1658550] Re: erratic behavior with touch on submenus in qt related apps

2017-03-18 Thread Don Nguyen
I uninstalled libgrail6 and libgeis and the problem still persists so
the problem is not related to grail or geis. It's probably related to
Qt.

Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to grail in Ubuntu.

Title:
erratic behavior with touch on submenus in qt related apps

Status in grail package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Short video clip of bug here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAJo-
  jwuFW8

If I tap the touch screen on a menu item that brings up a submenu in
qt related apps, the submenu will appear for about one second, and
then disappear. However, if instead of tapping and releasing on the
menu item, I tap on the menu item and move in any other direction just
a tiny bit, and then release, the submenu will appear and stay like
  normal behavior.

Below are specific examples and the pattern seems to be with qt related apps:
QtCreator - Tap on the Tools menu. Then tap on the Git menu. The submenu
will appear, and then disappear after 1 second. If instead of tapping on the
Git menu, you tap and drag a few pixels to the right, the submenu will appear
and stay.
Dolphin file manager - Tap on "Control". Then tap on "View Mode". The
submenu will appear, and then disappear after 1 second. If instead of tapping
on "View Mode", you tap and drag a few pixels to the right, the submenu will
appear and stay.
Kate text editor - Tap on the "Tools" menu. Then tap on "Mode". The submenu
will appear, and then disappear after 1 second. If instead of tapping on
"Mode", you tap and drag a few pixels to the right, the submenu will appear and
stay.

  Description: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
  Release: 16.04

Expected Behavior: The submenu should stay until I make a selection
  or cancel.

What happened: The submenu appears only for 1 second and disappears.
However, if I "trick it" by tapping and dragging on the menu item, the
  submenu will stay as normal.

I have switched and replaced the sound card to no effect but I never
really thought that was the issue.

There seems to be no evidence of the failure unless I run it from the
command line with -, when eventually I see a 'killed' message.

The pulseaudio log collects initial messages, but nothing else is
echoed to the log - which could be anything from 3-20 minutes
  [typically].

I'm more than happy to assist in getting whatever logs are required,
but nothing I've seen documented seems to help.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1615209] Re: ip crashes after a few times adding and removing network namespaces

2017-03-18 Thread KJH
The thing is, I rely on 'ip' a lot. So, not wanting to have to rely on
code I knew was buggy, and how it was buggy, I apt-get sourced it, fixed
it, and installed it on all my machines. I have now no machines with
that particular bug left. My hunch is that when using network namespaces
with large(r) names, adding and removing them a few times, should
trigger the bug.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1576024] Re: Wifi "device not ready" after booting into OS for the 1st time

2017-03-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package wpa - 2.4-0ubuntu9

---
wpa (2.4-0ubuntu9) zesty; urgency=medium

  * debian/patches/wpa_service_ignore-on-isolate.patch: add IgnoreOnIsolate=yes
so that when switching "runlevels" in oem-config will not kill off wpa
and cause wireless to be unavailable on first boot. (LP: #1576024)

Title:
pulseaudio breaks on switching from tty7 to tty [1-6] (in and out of
  Gnome)

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: pulseaudio

  lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu hardy (development branch)
  Release: 8.04

  $ apt-cache policy pulseaudio

On switching for example to tty1 from X on tty7, sound drops out when
using pulseaudio ( for example in mplayer ). Using alsa as default
  does not produce this issue.

Changing the audio output to alsa produces the expected behaviour:
namely, that sound is not muted or interrupted on vt change.

This bug occurs when switching in and out of X with ctrl+alt+F7,
ctrl+alt+F[1-6]
If sound is played from the prompt in a Vt and a switch is made to another Vt
it appears not to happen.

For instance, starting playback mplayer (using pulse) sound is muted
on change to tty1, and returns on switching back to X on tty7. The
same issue occurs with Totem and the Firefox Totem plugin.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1673992] [NEW] init-premount/sysconfig_hardware does not online all DASDs in primary VG - drops to busybox initramfs prompt

2017-03-18 Thread Andrew McLeod
Public bug reported:

Unsure if this is an initfs-tools issue, or s390-tools, or other?

Brief description:

Couldn't find device with uuid ySbAlW-I9M5-UV60-oHF3-uwAu-iXkH-H7zwPB.

Running vgchange -ay at this point just causes the same error - the DASD
disks still have not been brought online.

init-premount/sysconfig_hardware script brings the first disk in the VG
online - then /scripts/local-top/lvm2 tries to online the LV/VG. This
fails and causes the above error, as the DASD's have not been brought
online by init-premount. If the VG only contains one root disk then the
DASDS are brought online later, but in this situation to boot the system
I need all the PVs in the root LV to be brought online.

The preseed uses d-i partman to create LVM on the primary disk. Other
DASDs are added manually by a script using dasdfmt, fdasd, chzdev.

Validated workaround:

Create a script, e.g.

  /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/init-premout/online_all_dasds

containing:

  echo 1 > /sys/bus/ccw/devices/${DASD_ID}/online

and then:

  update-initramfs -u

All DASDS in the system VG are brought online by initramfs, allowing the lvm2
scripts in initramfs to work - I can then reboot the LPAR successfully.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 738617] Re: package should not depend on wpasupplicant

2017-03-18 Thread Olaf Dietsche
This bug is still valid in Xenial 16.04.

My system is connected via LAN and doesn't have a wireless card
installed.

Because of the dependency, wpa_cli is run on each suspend/resume cycle
and fails of course. There is no technical reason for this dependency,
and a recommendation is strong enough to satisfy the perceived need,
while still allowing to get rid of wpasupplicant.

I consider shifting the decision to Debian maintainers a dummy argument.
It would not be the first time, where changes flow from Ubuntu to
Debian.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1673939] [NEW] Downloads (of any kind) don't work in Desktop

2017-03-18 Thread Mayrinck
Public bug reported:

System: Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS
Package Version: 0.23+16.04.20161028-0ubuntu2

I'm trying to use this browser as my default but it has a problem, no
matter where on the web or what kind of file I am trying to download
(images, packages, text files, etc...) nothing happens, no dialogs, no

but the thing is actually in the browser... Also, nothing shows up in
any of the directories related to the package.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1464056] Re: Some characters are invisible (libreoffice/freetype) - depends on font-rendering

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1464056

Title:
Some characters are invisible (libreoffice/freetype) - depends on
  font-rendering

Status in freetype package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Symptom:
Certain characters are not reliably displayed in LibreOffice. Which
character is visible depends on font size, font face, and even mouse-over. It
looks as though about 40% of the letters have been randomly made white-on-white!
(This is really weird to track down, and extremely annoying!)

  Debugging:
   * I note that this affects LO, but not export to PDF. It also shows up in
Abiword.
   * The font needs to be about 18pt or higher to show this, eg Liberation
Sans, 18pt. Font-face doesn't seem to matter.
   * Mouse-over the text, or even changing the window size alters which letters
vanish.

Test case (after hours of experimenting):
   * Font-rendering: smoothing = None   -> triggers this bug.
   * Font-rendering: smoothing = Greyscale -> all is well.

I attach some screenshots both ways, to make this clear, showing both LO and
the control panel. Toggling from one setting to the other makes the bug
appear/disappear immediately.

I think the root cause is in libfreetype6, but it might be in Cairo, or
elsewhere.
I'm using Ubuntu Wily-64 (having upgraded today from Vivid which also had the
same bug)
  I'm running this under Ubuntu-Mate.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1673350] Re: dm-queue-length module is not included in installer/initramfs

2017-03-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package multipath-tools - 0.6.4-3ubuntu2

---
multipath-tools (0.6.4-3ubuntu2) zesty; urgency=medium

  * debian/initramfs/hooks:
- Remove old dm-emc module; it hasn't been in kernel since 2.6.27.
- Add dm-queue-length: users may want to change from the default selector
and should be able to do so. (LP: #1673350)
  * debian/patches/path_selector.patch, debian/patches/series: remove
path_selector.patch to get back to the "right" default selector of
service-time, which has been included in the kernel module packages for
a while now and has better throughput than round-robin. It's also the
default upstream. (LP: #1634161)

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Multipath users using EMC XtremIO storage as boot device or at install time
may run into this issue. With the module unavailable the device is more often
than not unavailable. Any users changing path selector to 'queue-length' with
other storage devices may also be affected.

  [Test case]
  1) Install on multipath system using EMC XtremIO storage / OR:
   a) Start d-i install on qemu with multipath enabled
   b) exit to d-i menu
   c) modify /etc/multipath.conf to define path selector as 'queue-length' for
the local qemu device.
   d) restart multipathd if necessary.
  2) Try to complete the install, setting up storage as multipath and using the
multipath device as boot disk.
  3) Reboot to disk.

In a success case, the install should complete successfully without
requiring manual configuration from the user to support the multipath
storage past the normal detection of multipath and partitioning.

In a failure case, the install may not complete, or rebooting may fail
or lead to a system booted on a single path of the multipath device
  (ie. / on /dev/sda2 rather than /dev/mpatha2).

  [Regression Potential]
The inclusion of a new multipath path selector driver should not cause any
regressions, but any failure to detect, configure or boot on multipath devices
following this change on XtremIO hardware or otherwise would constitute a
regression potentially caused by this change.

  ---

  ---Problem Description---
dm-queue-length module is not included in installer/initramfs

On Ubuntu, multipath devices using the 'queue-length' path selector
  are non-functional on both the installer and initramfs environments;
because the 'dm-queue-length' kernel module is not included in them.

The multipath-modules.udeb (src:linux) does not include it in the installer,
nor multipath-tools-boot (src:multipath-tools) installs it in the initramfs.

One example is the EMC XtremIO storage, which has 'queue-length' defined as
its path selector in the default multipath configuration, at least on 16.04.

Other products may be affected if they are manually configured to use that
path selector (e.g., via /etc/multipath.conf), and the mere switch of that
might render the system _unbootable_ if booting from multipath, since the
  initramfs is affected.

More recently this and another storage changed default path selectors out
of 'queue-length', however, it's virtually possible for any storage system
to be affected, with the described manual configuration change. So, this
change is also desired on for the next stable release, 17.04, and later.

Patches are provided for 16.04 and 17.04.

Error logs in LP comment #6.
