  Surface P4 -Network adapter bug(frequent disconnections)

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  After finding myself somewhat disappointed (again)with Windows 10, I decided
to switch back to Ubuntu. Picking up 18.04 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Alpha amd64
distro for my Surface 4 Pro, I got stuck with the network disconnections bug
explained here; additionally, I have identified a few less problematic device
issues like camera, poor sound quality, no touch screen, and no Bluetooth pen
as so far. Back to the network adapter, after researching a ton of forums, I
end up with this one hoping that the solution number one from Jesse will help.
  I run "$ sudo nano /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf" command and fund
  [Device]
  Wifi.scan-rand-mac-address = no in place. In desperation, I have changed
it to "yes" hoping that NO might interfere with this distro only, but the
results are the same as was before. Disconnections occurred as frequent as
before with exactly same patterns. As I am inexperienced with Linux, I depend
on your help, can anyone guide me what to do next, please?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1718824] Re: The analogue audio does not work on the Dell USB Dock

2017-11-12 Thread Hui Wang
Sorry, forgot to add conf file to build sys, then the conf file (dell-
dock-tb16-usb-audio.conf) is not installed to /usr/share/pulseaudio
/profile-sets/.

I will send a patch to upstream to fix it first, then backport it to
Xenial and Artful.

  SRU Document:

  [Impact]

  If users use the latest Dell USB Dock, e.g. TB16, they will found the
  analog audio (lineout jack) can't work under ubuntu linux

  [Test Case]

  After applying the fix, users can play sound via analog speaker or
  lineout freely. Without the fix, users can't play sound from lineout
  jack.

  [Regression Potential]

  No any possibility to introduce regression since this fix just adding
  a new dock's support, it does not change any existing code.

  [Other Info]

  No more info here

  Steps:
  1. Cold boot system with BME/IE connected
  2. Plug in a speaker to Line-out jack
  3. Set Analog Stereo Output from Sound settings

  Expected results: Line-out port can work

  Actual results: Line-out port not work

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1731803] [NEW] LubuntuNext 17.10 - Not in Menu + ModuleNotFoundError

2017-11-12 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
Public bug reported:

I recently installed Lubuntu Next 17.10.

I have been using Flashpeak-SlimJet as a browser, but it is not in the
repositories,
so I download the .deb file and use gdebi to install it.

The version of gdebi that Lubuntu Next installs is gdebi-kde, presumably
because LN uses Qt.

The first problem was that the .desktop file for gdebi-kde has the line
"OnlyShowIn KDE;Qt" (or similar). I tried to alter the line, but was
unsure of syntax, and nothing appeared in the menu until I removed the
line entirely.

The next problem was that whether trying to bring up the program from
the menu or double-clicking on the .deb file or using the context menu,
nothing ever happened.

When running from the terminal, I got the following result:

"scott@scott-Asus-M2N68-AM-PLUS:~$ gdebi-kde
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/gdebi-kde", line 26, in
from PyKDE4.kdecore import KCmdLineArgs, KAboutData, KCmdLineOptions, ki18n
  File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/PyKDE4/__init__.py", line 1, in
import sys,DLFCN
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'DLFCN'
"

I don't know if that is the only module missing, or if it just stops at
the first error.

I "solved" the problem by installing "gdebi" and invoking "gdebi-gtk"

[Touch-packages] [Bug 696435] Re: wait-for-root fails to detect nbd root

2017-11-12 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Hello, I will retest this with the sru kernel.

The udevadm monitor appears to monitor things that it knows about
thus first one needs to load nbd module, start monitor, unload nbd
module, then proceed with the test case.

I've started validating this on wednesday, but had to travel away from a
computer for an emergency =/ will test this first thing on monday.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  Kernel does not generate any events when ndb-client connects /dev/nbd0
devices, therefore it is impossible to monitor/react to the state of /dev/nbd0.

  [Fix]
  Generate change uevent when size of /dev/nbd0 changes

  [Testcase]
  * Start udevadm monitor
  * modprobe nbd
  * use ndb-client to connect something to /dev/nbd0
  * observe that there are change udev events generated on /dev/nbd0 itself

  [Regression Potential]
  There is no change to existing uevents, or their ordering.
  There is now an addition change event which will cause systemd to mark ndb
devices as ready and trigger appropriate actions

  [Original Bug Report]

  When using an nbd root, wait-for-root blocks for 30 seconds before
  booting continues successfully.

  Using Ubuntu Natty, related packages versions:
  nbd-client 1:2.9.16-6ubuntu1
  initramfs-tools 0.98.1ubuntu9

  The wait-for-root call from /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local:
   while [ -z "${FSTYPE}" ]; do
    FSTYPE=$(wait-for-root "${ROOT}" ${ROOTDELAY:-30})

    # Run failure hooks, hoping one of them can fix up the system
    # and we can restart the wait loop. If they all fail, abort
    # and move on to the panic handler and shell.
    if [ -z "${FSTYPE}" ] && ! try_failure_hooks; then
     break
    fi
   done

  I replaced wait-for-root with a sh script that did `set >&2`, here are the
relevant environment variables at the time wait-for-root was called:
  ROOT='/dev/nbd0'
  ROOTDELAY=''
  ROOTFLAGS=''
  ROOTFSTYPE=''
  nbdroot='192.168.0.1,2011'

  It's probably worth noting that "nbd0: unknown partition table" was
  displayed asynchronously 1-2 seconds after wait-for-root was invoked
  and while it was still waiting. But I tried adding a "sleep 5" as the
  last line of local-top/nbd, so that the nbd message was displayed a
  lot before wait-for-root was called, and it didn't make a difference.
  So I don't think a race condition is involved in this problem.

  Temporarily I'm passing rootdelay=1 in the kernel command line to work
  around the problem.

alsamixer misidentifies the speaker channel as a headphone. In fact
raising one of the headphones channels allows the speakers to work.

The problem returns the next time you use the headphones, as the
computer will lower the volume to zero once again as you plug out the
headphones from the jack.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1700753] Re: Merge adduser 3.116 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Ping!

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu

Title:
  Merge adduser 3.116 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Status in adduser package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Please merge adduser 3.116 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

  Sorry, I cannot work on the merge myself. I am filing this for
  reference.

  Explanation of the Ubuntu delta:
    * testsuite/runsuite.sh: Add the testsuite directory to @INC, so it can find
  the tests.
    * extrausers support for adduser (LP: #1323732)
    * Add autopkgtest. (LP: #1246331)
    * Move ecryptfs-utils from recommends, to suggests. (LP: #1188108)
  Adduser has moved from required to minimal set, and thus started to
  pull ecryptfs-utils and cryptsetup into minimal installs, which is an
  undesired effect.
    * Merge from Debian unstable, remaining changes:
  - AdduserCommon.pm, adduser, adduser.8, adduser.conf.5: Allow uppercase
    letters in the names of system users. This is done by having a separate
    NAME_REGEX_SYSTEM configuration setting which applies when --system is
    specified. (Soren Hansen)
  - Add support for encrypting home directories:
    + adduser: Add --encrypt-home option, which calls ecryptfs-setup-private
  for the hard work.
    + doc/adduser.8: document the --encrypt-home option
    + debian/control: recommend ecryptfs-utils >= 67-1
    + deluser: remove all of /var/lib/ecryptfs/$user with --remove-home
    * Dropped changes, included in Debian:
  - Mark adduser Multi-Arch: foreign.

  Changelog entries since current artful version 3.113+nmu3ubuntu5:

  adduser (3.116) unstable; urgency=medium

    * Advise installation of 'perl' rather than 'perl-modules'
  (Closes: #840982)
    * Improve distinction between informational and essential messages
  (Closes: #763055)
    * Improve message accompanying error code for creating system user
  (Closes: #708073, #759740)
    * testsuite: add current directory to Perl module search path
    * Use /usr/sbin/nologin instead of /bin/false for default system shell
  (Closes: #845791)
    * Bump Standards-Version to 4.0.1

This should be easy to fix with something very similar to

I'll check that google-chrome-stable works too.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1730793] Re: Translations not imported from upstream

2017-11-12 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for reporting.

I've added Ubuntu translations as also affected. I'm not too familiar
with how translations are imported from upstream, but I suppose they
might know more. Possibly this is a bug report which should affect
Launchpad itself, but let's wait to hear what the translators project
has to say.

Title:
  Translations not imported from upstream

Status in Ubuntu Translations:
  New
Status in util-linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  The listing of Ubuntu source package translations (for Danish) reveals
  that the last import of translations for util-linux happened in 2011:

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/artful/+lang/da/+index?batch=300=300=300

  The Ubuntu source package version is 2.30, which appears to be from
  2017 (on my Ubuntu 16.04 it is 2.27 which is also relatively new).
  Either way it should have imported the translations from 2017. Indeed
  util-linux has been translated very well in Danish for quite a few
  years:

  https://translationproject.org/domain/util-linux.html

  More precisely, 4000 translations are available and they have not been
  imported for (apparently) 6 years, leaving Danish at the level of 600
  strings.

  I suspect this is not really an issue with the util-linux source
  package, but rather with the whole Ubuntu/Launchpad translations
  workflow. I can see that several packages have similar problems, and
  that is probably just the tip of the iceberg. Unfortunately I have no
  clue how to approach that - at least I cannot file a bug report
  against The Whole Thing. So if someone could speak to someone who
  could speak to someone who can actually get this to work, it would
  also be extremely good.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1731646] Re: missing qDebug output when creating QT applications

2017-11-12 Thread Dimitar Petrovski
according to this documentation:
http://doc.qt.io/qt-5/qtglobal.html#qDebug
which is also referenced in the link you provided it says that if you write:
qDebug() << "Debug" there should be output unless QT_NO_DEBUG_OUTPUT is defined.
there is no mention that the logging category filters this messages, I guess in
this case the category is "default"
If you consider this a QT documentation problem, I will write a separate report
to QT bug tracking system.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1715435] Re: Can't lock screen with keyboard shortcuts when using lightdm

2017-11-12 Thread Janne Snabb
In my case I was able to workaround this issue by changing the lock
shortcut from super-L to ctrl-alt-L. All shortcuts using super are
broken. My "window action key" in gnome-tweaks is "super". So it appears
that it is impossible to use the window action key for shortcuts any
more after some very recent updata.

I am using gdm3 (AFAIK) and super-L also stopped working just now when I
did "apt dist-upgrade". So in my case it does not seem to depend on
lightdm vs gdm3.

  In Ubuntu 16.04 Noto Sans CJK is the default font for rendering
  Chinese. After having struggled with a few issues, I believe that we
  finally achieved the desired improvement of the rendering experience.

  So now I ask: Is there an interest from Japanese and Korean users to
  consider a switch to Noto Sans? (The fonts are already installed for
  all users on Ubuntu 16.04.)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1731646] Re: missing qDebug output when creating QT applications

2017-11-12 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
It is not a bug. We intentionally disable debug output in Debian/Ubuntu
(Fedora also does the same thing). It was done in order to solve
https://bugs.debian.org/805399.

There are easy workarounds: either what you suggested, or exporting
QT_LOGGING_RULES="*.debug=true".
