Yeah the exact same change in the 0.7 release (rlimit section removal)
that is shipping in Bionic fixes the issue there, and the issue isn't
present in Bionic.
I also individually tested each of the trusty/xenial/artful packages
built from the supplied debdiffs to ensure the issue goes away after

This bug is making it hard to work...
I just had the system freeze up on me again after less than 5 minutes.
This time, when doing ctrl-alt-F3 I got the strange snow-like screen depicted
in the attachement and none of the ctrl-alt terminals or GDM (at ctrl-alt-F1)
showed anything but snow!

shipped upstream for many months already)

I can kill gnome-shell with "kill -KILL" from a ctrl-alt terminal.
The GDM screen then appears as usual. Logging in again, however, seems to hang
on a blank purple screen.
The GDM screen appears normal but moving the mouse over the top-right
corner to activate the menu results in

Is our SSH ley length <1024 bit? Such short keys are refused by openssh
7.6.
When you open your key with Puttygen the length is shown in the
beginning of the "Key fingerprint" field. On Ubuntu you can check it
with "ssh-keygen -lf .ssh/authorized_keys".
