Bug description:

   * On kernels with page size > 4K Xorg (and presumably other applications
relying on libunwind) crashes on startup. This affects anyone
running the official arm64 generic-64k kernel or custom non 4k kernels
(as used by e.g. apple silicon).

The exact error I am seeing in the logs is:

I have not found a workaround other than using wayland (which has other
limitations). To reproduce use a kernel configured with a page size of
16K (CONFIG_ARM64_16K_PAGES=y or CONFIG_ARM64_64K_PAGES=y or) and try
to start "Ubuntu on Xorg" in gdm.

  [ Test Plan ]

   * Make sure Xorg doesn't crash on 4K, 16K and 64K kernels.

[ Where problems could occur ]

   * We will have to make sure the fixed version still works with 4k
kernels. The patch is already widely in use so the risk seems low if
     we test properly.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2004592] Re: aalogparse.h cannot be included from C++ code

2023-02-04 Thread Steve Langasek
FWIW this is less interesting to me personally now, as I found the right
switches to abi-compliance-checker to deal with C++ keywords as C
variable names. And also it turns out there are a lot of C headers that
have this problem. So while it's probably still interesting to someone
to be able to use these headers from C++ code, that someone is no longer
me :)

  /usr/include/aalogparse/aalogparse.h:163:15: error: expected unqualified-id

This is interesting to me because abi-compliance-checker necessarily
processes all headers as C++; but it's likely of general interest to
be able to link C++ code to libapparmor.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2004592] Re: aalogparse.h cannot be included from C++ code

2023-02-04 Thread John Johansen
Sigh, so this one is a bit of a pita. Minimal C code uses this and it is
easy to update that. The problem comes with the SWIG interface libraries
(python, ruby, etc) have baked these names into their API. We can update
those but then we stand a good chance of breaking some external code.

Admittedly I don't know SWIG well, but I am looking into what can be
done.

2023-02-04 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Upstream enabled 10-sub-pixel-rgb.conf by default.

It should be mentioned that the change resulted in a discussion, and
there is a later upstream commit which makes a choice of 10-sub-
pixel-*.conf configurable instead. But assuming that we want to keep
"rgb" as the default in standard Ubuntu, I won't change fontconfig for
now.

Instead I have uploaded a change to kubuntu-desktop which stops
installing /etc/fonts/conf.d/10-sub-pixel-rgb.conf.

Btw, Debian's fix of the similar linked fontconfig bug does not apply to
us, since we don't provide debconf prompts.
