[Touch-packages] [Bug 2021523] Re: totem displays "Unable to play the file" dialog for a video it can play

2023-06-10 Thread Chris Branic
Ubuntu 23.04, X11
Codec H.265 / HEVC
Container ISO MP4/M4A
running totem from command line gives below errors.
** Message: 23:18:54.268: Missing plugin:
gstreamer|1.0|totem|meta/x-gst-fourcc-fdsc
decoder|decoder-meta/x-gst-fourcc-fdsc (meta/x-gst-fourcc-fdsc decoder)
** Message: 23:18:54.268: Missing plugin:
gstreamer|1.0|totem|meta/x-gst-fourcc-gpmd
decoder|decoder-meta/x-gst-fourcc-gpmd (meta/x-gst-fourcc-gpmd decoder)

occasionally get the string of errors below:
(totem:7570): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: 23:21:16.422: gst_buffer_get_meta:
assertion 'buffer != NULL' failed
(totem:7570): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: 23:21:16.678: gst_buffer_get_meta:
assertion 'buffer != NULL' failed

Sometimes if I hit the cancel button in the Totem Dialog box it will
play but typically I have to press the pause / play button several
times. Also some of the time the video is very choppy. Most of the time
when i let it search Ubuntu Software it does not find anything but the
video will play without having to pause / unpause.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2023438] Re: After a wake up from a sleep extra keys are typed

2023-06-10 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I'll mark this bug as incomplete, as your last comment implies it was a
box issue relating to a BIOS setting.

FYI: I'm using a 1990 IBM Model M keyboard on my PC; it's likewise PS2
connected thru PS2-USB as my box doesn't have PS2 ports, and I don't
experience such issues.

Whilst my system is dualboot & has the LTS (22.04/jammy) installed, most
nights I'm suspending my box on *mantic* or the current development
release, and don't experience this issue; but can't recall an issue with
my jammy install either.

** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Incomplete

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I have an old keyboard with a PS2 connector attached to my PC via a
  PS2-USB plug (yes, I'm a dinosaur).

Each time the system wakes up, typing on a keyboard starts by
prepending an extra key - typically "8" although other keys and key
combinations were visible. This behavior does not happen in a normal
  boot until sleep is requested.

It's even hard for me to type a description because extra chars appear
  while typing.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2023455] [NEW] Pulse audio does not remember output device

2023-06-10 Thread coollinuxperson
Public bug reported:

My output device keeps switching from "built in analog stereo audio" (my
headphones), to HDMI output 2 (one of my monitors), which has no sound.
I have to keep switching it back through pavucontrol.

I read through a similar issue, but it was reported as fixed by my
version. I wonder if there was a regression.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
On the machines with AMD Ryzen acp audio design, the audio can't work
anymore after upgrading the libasound2 to ubuntu3(groovy)/ubuntu2.1(
focal), this is a regression on libasound2 for those machines. the AMD
Ryzen acp audio card needs to load ucm to work with pulseaudio, but
this audio card doesn't have an independant ucm for it, it needs to
link to an existing HDA-Intel ucm, the check_empty_configuration() needs
to cover the situation that Linked is true, otherwise it will fail
to load the ucm for the audio card. Even the audio card could load the
ucm, the output is muted and the init output volume is too low if
freshly install the OS on these machines.

  [Fix]
Backport 1 alsa-lib patch to fix the failure of loading ucm on AMD
Ryzen acp audio machines. Backport 4 alsa-ucm-conf patches to fix
init mute and init output volume problem.

  [Test Case]
Install the updated libasuond2, rm ~/.config/pulse/*; sudo rm -rf
  /var/lib/alsa/*; sudo sh -c 'echo b > /proc/sysrq-trigger' and run pacmd
list-cards, we could see the pulseaudio load the ucm successfully and we
could see
the sound card is generated and all output and input devices are listed
under sound card, but the init output is muted and the volume is very low
if we manually unumte it. Now install the updated alsa-ucm-conf, rm
~/.config/pulse/*; sudo rm -rf
  /var/lib/alsa/*; sudo sh -c 'echo b > /proc/sysrq-trigger', the output is
not muted anymore and the output volume is OK to most users.

  [Regression Risk]
This could make the machines with sof audio driver fail to load ucm
, then all audio function can't work as before, like the speaker can't
output sound or the internal mic can't be found or can't record sound.
But this possibility is very low, I tested this SRU on some machines with or
without sof audio driver, all worked as well as before.

After logging in, only a dummy device is available for audio playback
(resulting in no audible playback). When running "pactl load-module
module-detect" the sound card shows up, and playback works as expected.

If pulseaudio is restarted with "pulseaudio -k" the playback device
disappears again. Running the above command get things working again.

If I change the following section in /etc/pulse/default.pa from:

  ### Automatically load driver modules depending on the hardware available
  .ifexists module-udev-detect.so
  load-module module-udev-detect
  .else
  ### Use the static hardware detection module (for systems that lack udev
support)
  load-module module-detect
  .endif

  To:

  ### Automatically load driver modules depending on the hardware available
  #.ifexists module-udev-detect.so
  #load-module module-udev-detect
  #.else
  ### Use the static hardware detection module (for systems that lack udev
support)
  load-module module-detect
  #.endif

Things start working as they should after running "pulseaudio -k".

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1991606] Re: Invalid PEP440 package version breaking setuptools >= 66

2023-06-10 Thread Steve Langasek
I can imagine lots of things, and most of them do not qualify for SRUing
:)

The original bug report suggests that having these packages with non-
PEP440 versions *present* on the system will break newer setuptools.
But none of the test cases so far have demonstrated this, they've only
demonstrated that if you try to *use* these system packages with the
newer setuptools, it doesn't work.

Title:
Erratic crash to blackscreen then kernel freeze with no known trigger

Status in libdrm package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I suspect this is something related to updates from 22.10 to 23.04's amdgpu
driver. But I'm entirely out of my depth here. Attached is the dmesg I was
able to capture before the kernel freeze but after the crash to black by
changing to a different virtual terminal.

Title:
Erratic crash to blackscreen then kernel freeze with no known trigger

Status in libdrm package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I suspect this is something related to updates from 22.10 to 23.04's amdgpu
driver. But I'm entirely out of my depth here. Attached is the dmesg I was
able to capture before the kernel freeze but after the crash to black by
changing to a different virtual terminal.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2023448] [NEW] Accessibility option for press and hold left click to simulate right click triggers left click and right click

2023-06-10 Thread Anadon
Public bug reported:

When trying to simulate a right click via the mouse accessibility
settings to have a left press and hold register as a right click, what
happens is that the instant it takes effect and there is a right click,
there is also a left click. An example of this issue arises when you
want to open a link in a new tab in firefox. You left click and hold,
there's a flash of the right click menu, and then it follows the link in
the current tab regardless.

** Affects: libdrm (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2023442] [NEW] totem playback hangs after seeking

2023-06-10 Thread Pavel Rojtberg
Public bug reported:

Playback hangs after seeking forward and backwards a number of times, with some
video files.
This can been reproduced in Totem and gst-play-1.0. It seems to be caused by
some audio stack related change in Ubuntu 22.04.

This does not happen when using the Totem flatpak.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1991606] Re: Invalid PEP440 package version breaking setuptools >= 66

2023-06-10 Thread Stefano Rivera
The scenario I can think of is that you want to install some Python
thing in a virtualenv, that depends on both recent setuptools, and some
library that Debian provides but isn't trivially installed in a
virtualenv. It's not a common scenario, but I can imagine it.

Bug description:
  [ Impact ]

With setuptools 66, the versions of all packages visible in the Python
  environment *must* obey PEP440 .
Otherwise, attempts to use pip to install a package with a setup.py-
based build system, or other attempts to use the `pkg-resources`
module, can produce errors like this:

    File
"/builds/databiosphere/toil/venv/lib/python3.9/site-packages/pkg_resources/__init__.py",
 line 844, in _resolve_dist
  env = Environment(self.entries)
    File
"/builds/databiosphere/toil/venv/lib/python3.9/site-packages/pkg_resources/__init__.py",
 line 1044, in __init__
  self.scan(search_path)
    File
"/builds/databiosphere/toil/venv/lib/python3.9/site-packages/pkg_resources/__init__.py",
 line 1077, in scan
  self.add(dist)
    File
"/builds/databiosphere/toil/venv/lib/python3.9/site-packages/pkg_resources/__init__.py",
 line 1096, in add
  dists.sort(key=operator.attrgetter('hashcmp'), reverse=True)
    File
"/builds/databiosphere/toil/venv/lib/python3.9/site-packages/pkg_resources/__init__.py",
 line 2631, in hashcmp
  self.parsed_version,
    File
"/builds/databiosphere/toil/venv/lib/python3.9/site-packages/pkg_resources/__init__.py",
 line 2678, in parsed_version
  self._parsed_version = parse_version(self.version)
    File
"/builds/databiosphere/toil/venv/lib/python3.9/site-packages/pkg_resources/_vendor/packaging/version.py",
 line 266, in __init__
  raise InvalidVersion(f"Invalid version: '{version}'")
  pkg_resources.extern.packaging.version.InvalidVersion: Invalid version:
'0.23ubuntu1'

The official opinion of the setuptools maintainers seems to be that
version strings of this form haven't *really* been allowed since about
2014, and distributions need to change their package version naming
scheme for Python packages they install, so that the resulting version
strings obey PEP440. See for example
  .

Each time the system wakes up, typing on a keyboard starts by

It's even hard for me to type a description because extra chars appear

Bug description:
I have tried looking in various places to see why icons aren't showing
properly. Checked loads of log messages. Located the icons on the
filesystem but for some reason the icons aren't loading. It is
intermittent, for example sometimes the battery symbol shows and
  sometimes it doesn't.

A bigger problem is that sometimes the screen goes black but the
laptop is still on, the keyboard is still responding but it's
impossible to use. Sometimes this happens a few times in an hour.
Sometimes it can be days between using it.

This is making my laptop pretty unusable. If there is anything I can
do to investigate this further then please shout, happy to run all the
commands and provide all the logs. I've attached a screenshot showing
the issue in the settings panel but that isn't the only place this is
  happening.
