Xorg itself doesn't paint anything, it will start with a black window.
So it's likely to be a Xubuntu bug. Since it can't be reproduced then
let's leave it Incomplete and it will close automatically after two
months of inactivity.

How frustrating I have spent hours researching this issue including
numerous reboots and logins.
After opening this bug I logged in to get my processes started expecting
the frozen gray screen and the display came up without an issue.
