It is possible to adopt a newer version of JasPer the from upstream source? The most recent version of JasPer is 1.900.22. For Ubuntu 17.04, jasper should be removed. There's just a few KDE packages that need to be updated. Another update: The latest tarball release of JasPer (on the JasPer web site) is now version 2.0.10: http://www.ece.uvic.ca/~frodo/jasper/software/jasper-2.0.10.tar.gz Presuming that Ubuntu cares at all about security, there are a massive number of security and other bug fixes that have been applied to JasPer between the 1.900.1 version currently used in Ubuntu and the 2.0.10 version.
