You are right: WAD is not free software... because it is not software at all.
It means Where's All the Data? and indeed contains data: sprites, levels,

Just did that today. The HDD that failed came in the Thinkpad X201 I just
bought so it needed to be replaced anyway. Luckily I did have all my
important files backed up anyway so all I lost were a few wallpapers and a
flyer I had been working on.
These libre conversion app's have a long way to go.
I tried an OCR engine ... which converted the .JPG file (about 100 words from
a screenshot made with a digital camera) nearly flawlessly to a text
version that seemed to have no errors at all, but then all I could do was
save it as .XML

Trisquel mini comes with lxle, not xfce. Did you try ctrl alt f2? and then
reinstalling lightdm in the command line and rebooting?

then make a disk image of your main HDD onto that one
so that if your system fails you can restore it exactly
as it was before
example:

also download yt vids via terminal - I'm a true hacker now!! :P

about:config has js disabled

of years ago I would have stared at you like a dead fish if you mentioned
free software..), so no proprietary games. I know the engine source code for
Q3A is free (http://ioquake3.org/) but you still need the .wad
