Do you run any server? If not, incoming connections will not reach anything and you do not need to configure the firewall in Linux (iptables: you already have it!), unless you want to filter outgoing connections (but why?).

Ubuntu 14.04 packages will work for trisquel 7... not sure otherwise... Although, be warned... virtualbox 4.2 and above use non-free software. just warning you, they are contrib... meaning they are libre initially till they grab the non-free dependencies... pity no one is trying to fork

You don't need one. I have to agree with senor Banana about rkhunter, only false positives, if any, but an anti-rootkit does make more sense to have installed.. Just make sure your software is updated and stick to ur repo and you'll be fine :)
