I installed Trisquel from the usb testversion. I choose other to manualy
set partitions, etc. I didn't know what to choose as a setpoint, I don't
remember what it is called. I could choose from ''/ '' or ''/boot'' that sort
of options. I choose ''/''.
Can anyone explain to me what that
Is there any way to sucessfully upgrade a working T6 to T7 without going
through a quagmire? I tried just changing sources and apt-getting my brains
out and it's mired in dependency hell with dpkg errors, etc. (It's not
hardware because it runs 6 without a hitch!)
Previously I have tried
You can't do it by just changing the sources. The proper way to do it is:
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade sudo do-release-upgrade
-d
But it might be difficult to recover your system now.
I'm curious what graphics chip you have in your system...
I'm thinking this might have something to do with 3d accelerated graphics
support in 7 that didn't exist in 6, but doesn't actually work for you in 7.
Disabling the driver might solve the problem.
Thanks Chris.
It's an Nvidia GeForce Go 6150.
Please note that this is largely off the top of my head and I didn't test
this thoroughly...

I wanted to re-install 6 before answering just to be sure but that wasn't
working either. It said no new release found. Is that because 7 isn't
official yet?
That's how you upgrade to a newer development release in Ubuntu, so I thought
it would work in Trisquel. I never tested it though.
It's probabaly easiest just to install Trisquel Mini, without switching. It
is much easier than it sounds, unless your laptop requires non-free drivers.
There are variosu utilities on the disk that make installing it very easy
cant boot from cd, neither from usb
While I guess it is possible that an old computer couldn't boot from either,
have you looked at the BIOS setup?
It might be possible to change the boot order so that USB or CD would be
before HDD.
i have an hp pavillion dv1000 , long time with no use, i had windows xp and
ubuntu 11.01, i cant boot from cd, neither from usb, the windows wont charge,
but ubuntu works fine, just slow, so how can i install trisquel from ubuntu?
the easy and fast way
Um, better check you Ubuntu version because there is no such thing as an
Ubuntu 11.01. Did you mean 11.10?
If you were using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) it would be possible to
cross-grade over to Trisquel 6.0.1. Assuming that you meant Ubuntu 11.10 one
option is to upgrade to
The installer should offer you an option to check its integrity. An I/O error
suggests there is a problem with the install media.
The fix is to redo the install media, if you're burning a CD, use a slow
speed. I guess it could also be a problem with the drive but that's less
common.
Getting off Windows this is a new area for me. Like the layout of Trisquel.
Have 2 issues I've run into.
The first one is the install stopped at the where are you screen.
Sceond one System Settings/Failed to execute child process
gnome-control-center (Input/output error)
Any ideas
Thanks
Sounds quite strange all right. I've had troubles and smooth sailing but
never like that.
Did you see if the checksum of the ISO matches after downloading?
http://cdimage.trisquel.info/trisquel-images/md5sum.txt
Does Trisquel usually install without problems? I have copied the download to
disc twice now. On this machine, where I DO NOT want to destroy the gnewsense
operating system, the first disc loads the installer but that won't respond
to anything but the arrow keys - and they caused my hard
As long as you don't overwrite any of the existing operating system
partition.
I've never experienced issues when installing Trisquel.
Are you using the text-mode install or the graphical one?
The text-mode install, doesn't use a mouse.
There is no option to skip though...
Confirming. :(
English Text Mode Language Location Detect Keyboard Layout

Someone should open bug ticket
Did you guys try the expert install option?
(Might warrant a bug nevertheless.)
I installed using the normal mode (Live CD Use installer from desktop) and
it works offline. It should be possible with text mode too, just skip the
part that asks to configure networking and make sure it's unplugged from the
internet.
Not sure man... Have you checked the ISO file and the burned CD? Check the
integrity maybe the CD got a bad burn... Happened to me before :P
Hey all,
Is it possible to install Trisquel without an internet connection? I am
installing in text mode, and it says that it needs to have an internet
connection. This computer does not have an ethernet card in it.
Thanks,
GrimLok
There doesn't seem to be an option not to use it though.
In text mode? Are you using the net installer? That does require an internet
connection. The live CD doesn't.
I made it from my current installation from the iso using startup disk
creator.
I remember having the same issue... I think you can force the installer to
go on without internet (I had to keep choosing the other options time and
time again).
Sorry, but it has been a long time and don't remember the specifics :S
Hmm... do you think maybe searching for the way to do it in Ubuntu may work?
Explain something: why do you use text installer? The graphical installer
does the job with no problem. what exactly you need? :)
The graphical installer hangs up and just gives me a blank screen, I figured
the text installer would tell me why. Plus, I like the traditional
installers anyways. I just don't understand why it defaults to going out to
the internet to get installation files. That is a flaw to me. If you
Are you sure it's the correct iso? How bit was the file you downloaded?
Here is the file I downloaded:

Thanks for the help!
I have Debian 7.1 with Linux-libre 3.2.
I will try to install Trisquel and Trisquel Mini on VirtualBox and see how it
goes.
You can try with a CD or DVD. Was easy and it really works.
I tried, but my Mac refuses to see bootable DVDs other than Mac DVD and
ejects them in a few seconds. I will try my luck with Trisquel Mini. Debian
has crashed because I pressed spacebar to preview a file...
Have not got any luck with Trisquel Mini either. I tried to install it in
text mode. Here is what I got:
Loading casper/vmlinuz...
Could not find ramdisk image: casper initrd/netist
Any tips?
Tried NetInstall too, but my system did not see the USB stick.
The last option is to install Ubuntu
The F buttons didn't help, or I did something wrong.
I installed the latest Debian with nouveau drivers and they work almost
perfectly (way better than on Ubuntu).
I still want to give Trisquel a try. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks.
AFAIK, you can fix Nouveau issues by updating Linux-Libre. The Trisquel
live-CD comes with Linux-libre 3.2 by default, you can update it to 3.5 by
installing linux-generic-lts-belenos, and you can get the latest version
(3.11, or 3.10 if you like LTS) at jxself's website.[0]

Thanks for the replies. So there is no way to install Trisquel on my machine?
By the way, I was able to install Ubuntu 13.04 which does not have NVIDIA
drivers installed by default. It has to be some other problem.
After booting the Trisquel Live CD via USB I chose “Install Trisquel to
HDD”
Before choosing the option hit F1 or F2 or some function key, there are
special boot options that might allow you to boot.
Hello everyone,
As the title says I have a Mac and I want to install Trisquel as a second OS
(actually I wanted it to be the only one OS, but I had to instal Mac OS X in
order to boot Trisquel Live CD via rEFInd), but I have an issue. After
booting the Trisquel Live CD via USB I chose
I was able to install Trisquel, over-writing Mac OS X, and I haven't had any
problems.

It may be that it does not have any Free driver (at least in the Linux-libre

To help you, we need to know the model of your Wifi card. The command 'lspci'
(to be entered in a terminal) should tell (normally in a line with Network

I did it:

6250 (rev 57)
If I just get the Wifi working I'm ready to migrate to Trisquel!
Thanks for the help.
It's overwhelmingly likely that your current wifi chipset doesn't have a free
driver. Unfortunately, you would have to buy another one. :(
Here is a list of ones that have been tested and work in Trisquel:
