Re: [Trisquel-users] OGG Player /w Rockbox Firmware
There are many reasons to assume it is not free. Often, distros say they are free. But by free, they mean gratuity and not freedom. Rockbox is not a linux distribution, it is an open source operating system that is unrelated to linux but also distributed under the GPL. I didn't personally work on this project so I'm not 100% sure. However the person who worked on it suggested Rockbox does some dirty stuff. It patches the non-free image I believe. We do not patch anything. Everything in Rockbox is GPLv2+ or GPLv2+ compatible (i.e. we use Xiph's tremor which is BSD) and you can compile the entire OS and all install tools without even a single binary from us (or anyone). Depending on how your device's ROM works, YOU may need to patch it in order to gain the freedom to execute arbitrary code. This is your choice. If you're not comfortable hacking some proprietary ROM, buy a player in which this is not required.

[Trisquel-users] Re : I can easily steal your privacy data. Even with disabled cookies and Javascripts.
Roboq6, you are right and even if I'm teasing with you, what you show is interesting. More generally, most people fill full of personal information inside forms, so just use a search engine and type their name for absolutely everything about them. IP Adress is one way to confirm the location. Best regards.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
Not in free software. Should there be, somebody would yank it out pretty quick.
Re: [Trisquel-users] OGG Player /w Rockbox Firmware
Chris, perhaps you should get in touch with Rockbox developers so that the player you are selling is advertised on the Rockbox homepage.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
Battery is detachable. RAM can be upgraded up to 8GB (from product specification).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Please, help me get rid of Skype.
For voice call with me (with Trisquel 6.0) and friends with Windows, I use Empathy and they use Psi. Psi doesn't have video however. Sometimes the voice call wont start, so we try several times until it does, switching between who initiates the calls. The situation is not ideal.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
The one problem with Asus is they don't sell notebooks without MS Windows. @Chris They do. It depends on the market they are offered to. I can find a lot of large screen notebooks without a preinstalled system (actually they have FreeDos) in my local shops. Most laptops are without a system (76%), some with Windows (18%), and a few with Ubuntu (6%). The bad thing is Asus does recommend Windows, and most likely doesn't care about free software compatibility.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Privacy Security Tech to Watchful of: vPro
Several months ago guy proposed a plan for making a FSF-endorseable embedded processor (at Slashdot). The guy goes by the alias of lkcl and as I understand he is also working on a freedom respecting tablet (news). His plan for a free processor seems reasonable. It looks like this is a way we can achieve freedom respecting computers. But it won't be easy for our community, since it requires a lot of money.
Re: [Trisquel-users] I can easily steal your privacy data. Even with disabled cookies and Javascripts.
Er, no. Did I say that my location was reported in the right city? When I said it was several miles off, I mean it; it's not even in the same county. We're talking *dozens* of miles away from my actual location. Go ahead, go to the city/town you think I'm in by my IP address and search every house; you won't find me. The only way you can find me is if you have a huge army to search the entire state of Michigan, or if I tell you where I live.
Re: [Trisquel-users] I can easily steal your privacy data. Even with disabled cookies and Javascripts.
Okay, this is not your case. But I can be found thereby.
Re: [Trisquel-users] I can easily steal your privacy data. Even with disabled cookies and Javascripts.
The success of this attack (if I may call it this way) depends on the absence of privacy and security measures in the target side, and also on his decision to share, or not, personal information over the Internet. Frankly, my computer is not that secure, mostly because I'm not that experienced using GNU+Linux systems. But anyway, the Internet modem and router are close to me, one of them has a power button, and I can easy unplug or reboot them (to get a new IP address), if I so desire. Also, I use GNU+Linux, and I have a live operating system ready inside one USB storage device, which makes it easy for me, not to recover, but to completely remove the previous system and install it again from scratch. Just to mention that I don't keep personal data inside the hard disk devices, and most of it is password-protected. Also, as I am an artist, I also keep the source files (for compliance with the shared culture licenses), but they are separated from my computer's hard disk device. Despite not using Tor, Privoxy and Anonymouse regularly. I configured my main web browser to clear history, cookies, and etc. every time I close it. I'm still somehow worried if my practices are good enough if evaluated by more experienced people. At least for me, they are. Best regards, ADFENO. Have a nice day.
Re: [Trisquel-users] I can easily steal your privacy data. Even with disabled cookies and Javascripts.
Aw... Some funny quotes for my collection... Hahaha! I laugh out loud! Hahaha! I would like to kindly ask permission from the authors (Darksoul71 and roboq6) to keep the 82nd, 83rd, 85th and 86th posts. If the posts' authors wish, I can also modify the quotes as they wish (to remove IP addresses personal names, nicknames, and such). Best regards, ADFENO. Have a nice day.
Re: [Trisquel-users] I can easily steal your privacy data. Even with disabled cookies and Javascripts.
You don't need any special service or software to do this. You can easily do it with your computer and nc (netcat) – a program which is installed by default with Trisquel. In this forum, you can embed an external images to your forum posts. With this you can see the IP-address and information send by the browser of almost all who see your post. You can make a post like this: Hi, all! Let me tell you something... img src=http://208.80.152.201/image.png; alt= ... When a browser opens a web page, it sees many img .../ codes like the one above. For every such code a browser goes and tries to download an image from the given address. In the example post above the embedded image and it's on a computer with an IP address of 208.80.152.201. Practically all browsers will try to connect to it, even if the image doesn't really exists. If this address is of your computer, then browsers will try to connect to it and identify themselves. You can listen for browsers trying to get an image from you computer with the command: sudo nc -vl 80 When a computer connects to another it gives its IP address, so it can receive replies. When a browsers connects to a server it sends various information, including what kind of a browser it is. The browser identification is optional and non-essential information, but generally all browsers provide it. When someone tries to open the image you'll receive something like this: Connection from 208.118.235.148 port 80 [tcp/http] accepted GET / HTTP/1.1 Host: 208.80.152.201 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:20.0) Gecko/20130422 Firefox/20.0 Accept: image/png,image/*;q=0.8,*/*;q=0.5 Accept-Language: en-US,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate DNT: 1 Connection: keep-alive You'll also need to configure your router for this to work, if you are behind one. With the above information, it's hard to determine which forum user is actually assosiated with the IP-address and browser information, since many people will read the post. But its not too hard, if you are a bit creative. Also, most people won't notice someone embedding images of some strange address.
Re: [Trisquel-users] I can easily steal your privacy data. Even with disabled cookies and Javascripts.
Just now I have noticed that this posts are numbered by order of appearance in the thread, not by order of publication. So... To make this clear, I want to ask permission for the use of the following quote: Darksoul71: roboq6, Darksoul71: 1st: IIRC there is no way to delete postings here, since we are watching another representation of a mailing list. Darksoul71: 2nd: I fail to see the purpose of your posting. For me privacy data is something different than my IP and informations about my platform. No offence but any webserver I visit finds out those informations. Especially since many websites need to act different depending on the browser and operating system. This of course also means that evil webservers can mis-use this informations if exploits / security holes exist for your browser / OS used. Darksoul71: So what is this fuzz all about? roboq6: we are watching another representation of a mailing list. Then you must call the admin for help. I'm sorry. roboq6: So what is this fuzz all about ?. There is huge difference between the server and a human, who is not owner of the server or the site. roboq6: Somebody don't caring about proxy/Tor/VPN. Because s/he thinks something like this: roboq6: Only owners of the site and the server will know my IP. So, I don't need to worry about this. All right. Girls/males from a dating sites will not understand that I had fooled them about my nationality roboq6: IMHO, this information will be useful to people, who are afraid of personal spies much more than the Big Brother. Like me. roboq6: Your IP address: ???.???.???.???. Darksoul71: and my shoe size is 44. who cares ? Best regards, ADFENO. Have a nice day.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
I found myself in this situaiton --looking for a laptop-- a few weeks ago. Buying a computer with proprietary software --new or used-- supports people involved in that business model. It's money that could support businesses that are friendlier to our community. We have to research so many aspects of compatibility before buying from a non-free hardware distributors. That's because people who came before us purchased from non-free hardware distributors. Just as we are doing here today. And finding a free-software compatible computer, from a proprietary software/hardware vendor, is no assurance that you'll be able to find a similarly free-software-friendly computer from them the next time you're in the market for a computer. Supporting a free-hardware distributor is at least some assurance of that.
Re: [Trisquel-users] I can easily steal your privacy data. Even with disabled cookies and Javascripts.
Okay, you have my permission.
Re: [Trisquel-users] WiFi with latest Linux-Kernel
No, there will be point releases, e.g. 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, and maybe 6.4 (like in Taranis, which was later upgraded to 4.1).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
I think it's reasonable to buy a used laptop, whatever is on it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
To muhammed: It would support them if you buy a new one, but why would it support non-free software developers if you buy a used one? By not supporting a free-software-compatible computer seller?
Re: [Trisquel-users] I can easily steal your privacy data. Even with disabled cookies and Javascripts.
Sound interesting, thank you very much!
Re: [Trisquel-users] WiFi with latest Linux-Kernel
Linux-libre has a bad habit of blocking/blacklisting wireless driver modules, so you cannot use your wireless card/key even if you have installed the required firmware. People can argue that it's neccessary evil because without this precaution, people can be easily fooled, because they will think that the particular device is FLOSS compatible, while in fact, it requires a proprietary binary firmware in able to make it work. If you ask me, I think it's just a bullsh** to limit the users freedom to do on his/her computer whatever they want.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
Was it MeeGo?
Re: [Trisquel-users] WiFi with latest Linux-Kernel
They accept patches; loading such firmware without recommending it to users is a missing feature of a very low priority. (This is completely unrelated to PCI cards supported by ath9k, since they don't use loadable firmware.) Indeed. This whole thing seems that it's simply the original poster needs to enable the ath9k kernel module in their .config when compiling the kernel. The other option is to use mine, as ath9k is already enabled: http://jxself.org/linux-libre/
Re: [Trisquel-users] Anyone able to stream this video without flash?
Some of the videos on the golem.de website use the .flv extension, e.g. this one about the Neo Freerunner: http://video4.golem.de/files/1/1/1559/neofreerunner_mw_on2.flv To find the URL using Wireshark just search for frame contains .flv instead of frame contains .mp4.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
That's one reason. If free-hardware distributors disappear or scale back their offerings, for lack of demand, the non-free ones will have a bigger share of the market. Curtosey of our community. Also, as Chris said, others will see you using the hardware. People may take that as an endorsement or support for that item. The positive association may help those manufacturers like advertising does.
Re: [Trisquel-users] I can easily steal your privacy data. Even with disabled cookies and Javascripts.
@ADFENO: Yeah, you got my permission ! @roboq6: I did not give the permission to post my top-secret personal IP adress...the NSA / FBI / local police will raid your apartment in 20 seconds. :P roboq6: we are watching another representation of a mailing list. what about this wifi card: Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller will this be supported in trisqul?

I solved the problem by running make menuconfig and recompiling the kernel.
[Trisquel-users] Ways to fight against Skype. My crazy idea.
1. Run and set up a web server on your PC. 2. Use a special service for the domain for case of dynamic ip. 3.Give a link to the user of Skype. 4.Then s/he will open the link, the browser will run Flash/Java/Ajax/HTML5-based Ekiga-like software. 5.Now you can chatting! There are difficult moments, but I think that they can be significantly simplified. For example, create a script to automate the installation and configuration of the web server. This method is designed specifically for lazy and craven Skype users, like my friend. What do you think?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Ways to fight against Skype. My crazy idea.
Or give him link to IRC webchat: problem solved. Really, there are milions of chat solutions out there (web based or not).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
I doesn't knew Coreboot isn't fully-free (e.g. contain binary-blobs). Wikipedia states that it's released under under the GNU GPL and doesn't specify additional licenses. It's a shame, that Coreboot went the same way like Linux did. Nevertheless, if I'm stated in a position to make a decision btw. a 90% free software, or a 100% pure proprietary BIOS, I'll rather choose the prior. This doesn't change my mind because it's easier to reverse-engineer some code, rather than the whole, and possibly there will be someone who can make it and do it himself. That cryptographic thing bothers me the most, because it prevents reverse-engineering of the blob, and make the whole process that is itself very hard to do, even harder. Anyway, thanks for the clarification . P.S.: Isn't this Phoronix article I read a long time ago the same thing you're talking about?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
Nevertheless, if I'm stated in a position to make a decision btw. a 90% free software, or a 100% pure proprietary BIOS, I'll rather choose the prior. Of course that's better but this doesn't mean settling for that. What we should be going for is 100% free, and that can be achieved by using and recommending different computers (not the Chromebooks.)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
From what I understand, 'Trusted' Computing is built into the hardware, and would override any Operating Systems installed. Is this incorrect?

Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
1st paragraph. Agreed. It's not as easy as with a classic proprietary BIOS but it still can be done (very easily on Pixel). The Intel vs. AMD situation on the Coreboot side is a practical (Intel) vs. ethical (AMD) choice. On the desktop side, I would probably go for AMD (Coreboot) and buy a Nouveau supported nVidia card, while on the laptop side I'll go for Intel. 2nd paragraph. I doesn't searched through all the Chromebook models so the older generation might contain non-Atheros cards, but those what I recommended do not, and are supported by the ath9k driver (no idea about bluetooth support, which is integrated on these cards, but I can search for this if you were interested).

Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
I done the same thing when I bought my laptop PC. It is better to go this way not just because you doesn't buy a new Windows license, but also the hardware is recycled (a second chance for the computer), so you're not contributing to the pollution of the mother Earth. Also, judging by your hardware requirements, it's a necessity for you.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
+1 on the reuse of perfectly-good hardware and not causing a new Win license to be generated.
Re: [Trisquel-users] WiFi with latest Linux-Kernel
I'm afraid the answer is no. At least not apparently by openfwwf. Also, this lists it as no go http://h-node.org/wifi/view/en/201/
Re: [Trisquel-users] Any future plan for a new ThinkPenguin All-in-One ?
Thank you for the answer Chris. This is actually a very bad news (at least for me), but it is understandable. I'm just asking this because, now that I have a new job I can (and simply want) buy a new computer, and I was looking for a all-in-one with only the power cable to connect and nothing more. Knowing that I only have the Apple iMac and the System76 Saber Complete options to choose from is quite sad :S But, just by curiosity, did you sell the last one and then removed from the list or did you still have anyone left ? Otherwise I would have to buy the Saber without the Intel Wireless and then buy the Wireless chip from ThinkPenguin (not the best choice but it's actually better than buying an iMac). Once again thank you for your fast answer.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
There are some other completely free laptops outside the Chromebooks that have a heavily out-of-date/low performance/incompetitive hardware, are very expensive, an many of are incompatible with the x86 architecture. Many of these has a proprietary BIOS that needs to be reflashed with Coreboot, which is a non-trivial task to do even for an experienced hacker, and can easily brick your device (there are recovery methods, but it requires expensive tools and professional knowledge). I can post you here the list of these devices if you're interested, but since most of these devices doesn't fulfill people basic requirements (web browsing - usually small/low resolution screen, videocalling - lack of hardware accelerated encoding of video, 3d gaming - non-existent or very basic 3d acceleration), these are only just toys to play with and not a device you can rely on a business trip. http://libreplanet.org/wiki/LibrePlanet:Conference/2013/Program/Coreboot_Install_Party

Sure, but I just wanted to supplement what he already said.
Re: [Trisquel-users] WiFi with latest Linux-Kernel
I recently installed Linux-libre-3.9.2-gnu. You should be more accurate when you ask a question here. I though you installed (not compiled) Linux-libre through PPA like the most people here do.

There is: Don't use a computer!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
Regarding microphone/line out: most laptops have an internal microphone so the external one isn't needed (my netbook 1001px has this connection and it works for headphones. I use the internal microphone).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
I support re-use/recycling as well. Our posts here pit environmentalism against civil liberties. This frames the issue in a strange way: It suggests that our tiny community of free-software users could abandon their cause --civil liberties-- to contribute to the environment's well being. The environment has bigger problems than our tiny free software community. It has consumer culture generally, including non-free users, to contend with. Maybe a good compromise (every decision to use technology is a compromise with the environment) would be to buy free hardware, and commit to using it for as long as possible.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Anyone able to stream this video without flash?
Do this: 0. Shockwave Flash plugins (Gnash/Lightspark/Flash) must be disabled from Abrowser's Add-ons Manager 1. Go to the video site you want to play (e.g. http://video.golem.de/games/10750/metro-last-light-test-fazit.html) 2. In the place where video should appear, there is a title of the video and just above a tiny little piece of an actual image. Right-click on it, and select View Background Image 3. Modify the URL of the image by replacing teaser with files, then rename the filename from QUALITY-HEIGHT-TITLE-AUTHOR-pic.jpg to TITLE-DEFINITION*.EXT*. DEFINITION - should be sd or hd EXT - should be mp4 or flv This way, you will be able to watch videos right from your web browser.
[Trisquel-users] Can I watch YouTube videos with Midori? (Trisquel Mini)
Trisquel Mini is a light version of Trisquel and comes with Midori as the default browser. Trisquel uses Abrowser and a Gnash plug-in to play YouTube and other videos, but in my experience Midori fails on YouTube, either showing blank applet space or a perpetual loading throbber. I've read various things about whether or not a plug-in is required to watch the vids, but I haven't been able to watch any in Midori. Is there a way to do it? Or do I have to use Abrowser for this?

Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
What you raise a technical issues, and some of it seems to be a distraction: 3D acceleration, for example, is generally problematic no matter where you look, although that's improving, but really that's an orthogonal issue to the BIOS. The free software movement's not about technical things, and is not trying to make the argument that we can make things technically better by being free. Some people look for freedom. Others look for convenience and only use free things when they are convenient. Your response helps to clarify positions there: We're looking for different things. I'm reminded of this little blurb: http://aws.bluehome.net/better.oga I selected the ThinkPad X60s because it's supported by Coreboot and I was actually present at the Coreboot Install Party at the FSF's LibrePlanet conference. That's when Coreboot was installed on my laptop.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
To some degree although your still contributing to the inflation of the value of used laptops which came with MS Windows. Indirectly you still contributing to Microsoft. Unless your buying a used laptop that was not licensed to run MS Windows.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
Is it possible to buy used free hardware right now? I'd probably buy a laptop from Thinkpenguin, but even the Gentoo Penguin Notebook is $499.00, and I'm not even willing to spend that much on a computer.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can I watch YouTube videos with Midori? (Trisquel Mini)
I haven't really tried much, but one thought is to enable YouTube's HTML5 trial, which will use the alternative player for HTML and Javascript for videos that don't have ads on them. Another possibility if Midori supports custom user scripts (I don't know if it does or not) is ViewTube, which is a Greasemonkey script that replaces the regular YouTube video player with a different one that lets you select the quality and format and play it with the web browser's capabilities. This is usually how I watch YouTube videos on Abrowser. I'll leave any information on how to get Gnash to work to someone else, since I don't really know about that.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
I haven't looked into it recently although Asus North America will not sell systems without an OS. We couldn't get them OS free from Asus.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can I watch YouTube videos with Midori? (Trisquel Mini)
Oh, right: you go into YouTube's HTML5 trial at youtube.com/html5
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
The problem with used hardware are it doesn't scale easily and lots of problems are created through used hardware. Most people don't realize how difficult it is to even properly support a small set of systems or identical hardware. Now try doing that on a massive scale. It doesn't work.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Ways to fight against Skype. My crazy idea.
I think you are not understood all might of the idea. When I says Now, you can chatting!, I mean audio and video chat. Plus text chat and file sharing. There are many people who are forced to use Skype because their interlocutors can not / do not want to install the SIP client. But we can embedding SIP-client into web-page. Is there a ready-made software in order to arrange such communication through its own server? If so, give me the link.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
They should. We sell a USB mic. It's a standard.
Re: [Trisquel-users] WiFi with latest Linux-Kernel
hmm thanks! Got to fix something. Do you know if the next point release is 6.1? I made the assumption it would be 6.5. If the standard is changing it would be good to know.
Re: [Trisquel-users] WiFi with latest Linux-Kernel
There is actually PCI broadcom chipset that is compatible with Trisquel. Not sure if it is this one. I've spoken with the developer (I think) and (even if I'm mistaken) I know he says that its not advisable to use the driver. It's alpha quality. That said some users have had no problem with it. Long story short is to go with Atheros because they do a good job at supporting GNU/Linux and free software.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Any future plan for a new ThinkPenguin All-in-One ?
When your ready to buy send me an email and I'll see what I can do. We do generally stock extra systems and parts for most products. This is to speed up repairs. Turn around time for repairs is usually 2-3 days or better. We're competing with IBM/Lenovo business class service level warranty time wise. Actually I think its better. I think even they are like 5 days or something although frequently get it done in 1 day.

Yes- it wouldn't be a bad idea. I have thought of doing it. I'd love for us to contribute something back to the project. As it is right now we are not. We haven't sold that many yet though... Maybe when I have some time I'll get in touch.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
I meant on eBay or Craigslist, if an individual purchases a free hardware laptop from you or some other company, then sells it at one of those places.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software compatible laptop?
Ladies and Gentlemens, we have a winner : http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-64191 It has a 14.1 inch display (matte, 1400x1050), Core Duo processor (2GHz), Intel Graphics (GMA 950), supports up to 3GB of RAM (DDR2), and finallyit's supported by Coreboot . It's also cheap and can be bought second-handily on eBay for around $100-200 bucks: http://www.ebay.com/sch/175672/i.html?_nkw=thinkpad+t60_sop=15 Beware that this laptop is available in many different configurations, so make sure you get the one with Intel GMA graphics, and the 1400x1050 resolution display. Now this convined me to sell my own ThinkPad R60 and replace it with T60, although I read a long time ago that the motherboard in the R60 is the same as in T60, just the casing in made from different material, which is quality-wise better on the T60.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can I watch YouTube videos with Midori? (Trisquel Mini)
Tried all the above, neither worked for me. Personally, the best YouTube experience you can get on Trisquel is with a program called SMPlayer YouTube Browser (it's not perfect though, because it does not support WebM). To install it on Toutatis (Trisquel 6.0), open a Terminal window ([Ctrl]+[Alt]+[T]), then write: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rvm/smplayer sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install smtube Then start the program (from Sound Video), click on the button with a screwdriver on it, and set player to MPlayer (and if you have a slow connection, you can also set quality to normal). Now just search for your favourite video, double-click on it, and enjoy the playback. Btw, you can switch to fullscreen anytime by pressing [F]. Enjoy!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Anyone able to stream this video without flash?
This is really stupid, because the image and video filename differs from each other. So, it's really just about coincidence and luck, if a video starts to play. In theory, the flash player parses a video playlist in XML format, that contains the direct link to the video file, but I does not found any way how to retrieve the link for that file. Maybe someone here is more competent for this kind of work and can retrieve that link for you.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can I watch YouTube videos with Midori? (Trisquel Mini)
The latest version of Midori plays back YouTube fine using ViewTube or Linterna Magica with Lightspark or Gnash. Just get the latest Midori and WebKit via PPA: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webkit-team sudo add-apt-repository ppa:midori sudo aptitude update sudo aptitude upgrade

You can also use regular SMPlayer to playback YouTube links which supports WebM as default format in options-preferences-performance
