Try changing your software sources. If you can't get to the GUI to do this,
edit /etc/apt/sources.list (as root) and replace all the references to the old
address with the new one. Give mirror.fsf.org a shot. I use it- it's a bit
slow, but reliable as hell. Never had any problems.

And if you're doing this in LibreOffice, you can just type "Times New Roman"
as the font. You don't need to actually have the font installed.

It's not a great idea to run servers you don't need. (Eats resources and
gives attackers a vector in.) When you mark apache for uninstall, it might
suggest you some other package that depends on apache to also be uninstalled.

perfectly capable of running Trisquel proper- 2.5GB 64 bit is more than good

Your personal configuration is in hidden files inside your home directory. In
the case of Abrowser, it is in ~/.mozilla/abrowser. You can rename that
folder to experiment a fresh start. APT's "purge" refers to system
configurations (in /etc).
Compiz was installed by default on Trisquel 6. All the script did was tweak
some configuration scripts so that Compiz would actually run instead of
Metacity, or vice-versa.
