I am not certain it is a weak argument to write that firmware files are not
linked to the rest of the kernel, hence not subject to the GPL (Linux's
license). I would like to read more on the topic. Doesn't the kernel simply
sends the firmware file to the peripheral that must execute it? That

Maybe Alejandro was reading or writing a file on the disk (otherwise, you are
right). Frequently checking the SMART data of the disks always is a good
idea. The "Disks" utility in the "System Settings" makes it easy: select the

Great to hear! I've sent you an email with the password.
Tor would do that just fine. The real problem with Google Translate is that
it's SaaSS.
Officially, the firmware blobs are not distributed with the kernel (they are
hosted in the "unofficial" linux-firmware git repository), so the source code
on its own is free. I've seen people on Phoronix make this rather weak
argument.
It isn't just firmware though, it's various binary files
It's the creator of the software (or, more precisely, the owner of the
copyright) that gets to enforce the license, not the users. And a copyright
license isn't automatically enforced; the owner of the "rights" has to sue
the infringer. Additionally, that rights-holder can't infringe his own

would fix anything here.
Maybe try PhotoRec first:
PhotoRec is a companion program to TestDisk, also included in this Hive Five.
Like TestDisk, this app is also devoid of a GUI, but likewise is quite
powerful at file recovery. We're including PhotoRec independently of TestDisk
because many users distinctly prefer
Theora? Eww. If you are converting away from a high quality codec like H.265,
you are better using VP9 and putting into a VP9/Opus WebM or MKV.
I've always wondered how Linus and the kernel team could get away from
inserting closed off and non-free bits into a GPL kernel, which should make
everything free due to the nature of the GPL. Does binary firmware somehow
get a free pass because it's firmware and not traditional software?
We are all power users if we have the means to affect our own fate.
I hope you fix it.
Hey guys.
I have installed apertium, apertium-tolk, python-glade2, and all the
available languages. However both in command line and in GUI it only
translates the first word. For example:
"Hello my good friend"
only gives me "Hola".
Is something wrong on my part??

So just to answer my own question, I used PPA-Purge to start getting rid of
this stuff, and it worked... to a certain extent. It only removes packages
that are present in Trisquel repos so I had to mannually remove those and
their dependencies afterwards. Also, for some reason even some

I wasn't trying to backup anything. This was a recent temporary install. I
had an old external HD which i almost had never used connected. Instead of
of=/dev/sdb i typed of=/dev/sda. I'm not a power user. I'll try TestDisk.
Thanks.
How? You must have done this on another operating system. So just be careful
and don't attempt to back up this way (I assume you are making a full disk
image?), and use the normal backup utility.
Try TestDisk to recover them. It will take a long time depending on the size
of the disk and
Trisquel Mini 7, both the HD and the home directory are encrypted. For about
8 seconds i accidentally dd'ed the HD (dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda). Now when
trying to boot i get a "Non-system disk or disk error" message. Luckily i
only have a few not-so-important files in there, but would love
