Re: [Trisquel-users] size of Trisquel 7.0 repositories
Good question. As if you want to make a mirror? Here's the size in GB of Debian: https://www.debian.org/mirror/size You can use it to have and idea of how big is Trisquel.
Re: [Trisquel-users] size of Trisquel 7.0 repositories
What do you mean size? Number of packages? or Size in GB or MB of all the packages combined?

[Trisquel-users] Re : Haven't had any software updates for a while
Maybe an issue with the mirror you're using. Can you please post the output of the following command? cat /etc/apt/sources.list
[Trisquel-users] Haven't had any software updates for a while
I think it's been a month or two since I've had any software updates available on my machine. Absolutely nothing is available for upgrade after running apt-get update and apt-get upgrade. Has this happened to anyone else? Have Trisquel repos been frozen in advance of Trisquel 8? I'm worried that I'm open to security vulnerabilities.

I guess it's because Tonvid is non-free. https://trisquel.info/en/forum/about-flash-player-trisquel#comment-91466

There's no God but GNU system and all are its humble servants. Strip the system of GUI, we are iconoclasts and there should be no image of GNU.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Ubuntu 16.04 released 2 months ago. Trisquel 8 status?
The funny thing is that as a Ratpoison user myself I would love this more than anything. It has just enough meanness and self-satisfied snuggery to turn away the casual user. Ratpoison is a god among window managers.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Ubuntu 16.04 released 2 months ago. Trisquel 8 status?
why smtube was purged?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Ubuntu 16.04 released 2 months ago. Trisquel 8 status?
That's it... we've had enough. Ratpoison is now the default! If you don't like it then install your favorite and stop posting about it. ;-)

Re: [Trisquel-users] Uruk GNU/Linux, someone realeased a fork of Trisquel
A funny thing happened with my iMac recently. I tried to boot Uruk with the F6 procedure. It didn't bring up the menu to turn off nomodeset. The iMac doesn't have an eject button for the DVD drive. So ... when I turn it on it tries to boot Uruk, but doesn't, and I can't eject the disc to escape from this loop!

"¿"Added zfs-linux"?" Yes, it's added to the list of non-free packages. That is, it won't be in Trisquel repos. https://devel.trisquel.info/trisquel/ubuntu-purge/blob/c73d980307057e6951b5b3a50b8282470e115ebf/purge-xenial
Re: [Trisquel-users] Ubuntu 16.04 released 2 months ago. Trisquel 8 status?
Well there were reports of the installer going mad, which applies to all Ubuntu spins. If you look in the mailing list you will see that Canonical made new ISO images to solve some of the problems, but people continued to have them. I also think the use of the term 'distribution' is being used inappropriately here. Ubuntu MATE is just a LiveCD with MATE instead of the default Unity. It uses the Ubuntu repositories so is just, well, Ubuntu. The problems with things like the installer could be in other spins of Ubuntu, like the MATE version.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Ubuntu 16.04 released 2 months ago. Trisquel 8 status?
I am using Ubuntu GNOME and haven't had any substantial "problems" or "odd behavior". It's much better than Trisquel 7 and Debian 8 (the last two systems I used).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Ubuntu 16.04 released 2 months ago. Trisquel 8 status?
You are referring to the standard Ubuntu ISO with Unity and the default setup. As for "problems and odd behavior", can you please provide a link with a detailed description? If Trisquel 8 uses MATE as the desktop and uses Ubuntu MATE 16.04 as the reference, the Trisquel team will be in a better situation as that distro is well put together and is stable.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Laptop too hot - CPU (almost) always at 100%
Do you have a different hard drive you could try? My Mrs had a similar issue and changing the hd sorted it right out.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Ubuntu 16.04 released 2 months ago. Trisquel 8 status?
Ubuntu 16.04 was released 2 months ago and it has given people so many problems and is quite prone to odd behavior. They focused more on mobile, embedded (IoT) and cloud, where they actually make money. Debian is much more stable, and testing is coming along well, without problems. Heck, even unstable is more reliable than Ubuntu as it is!

Re: [Trisquel-users] Laptop too hot - CPU (almost) always at 100%
Actually many reasons not to... This laptop is actually a nice one (for its price at the time) and freedom-wise the only issue is the GPU. Other than that it has a lot of memory, good sized screen, and everything works very good, free wifi and all. I actually have some connection with this machine and don't look forward to get rid of it. Also, it's the only machine available at the time so family would be without a computer while I sell the old/buy the new. I doubt I could sell this one for enough money to buy another one and would be afraid of something not working properly with the new one. For now this one actually serves me. Since we are talking about this, do you have any information if the issue with the AMD in newer kernels has been resolved? 3.4 is going EOL in a couple months.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Laptop too hot - CPU (almost) always at 100%
Hey, it seems to solve the problem. I was getting the same behavior once again and I tried it. At first it seemed to do nothing (CPU was still at 100% and all kworker processes were still up) but after a few seconds when I run "sudo iotop" to see if kswap was there or not, it seemed to stop (probably it was a matter of timing, it would stop anyway, it was mere luck that it stopped when I run iotop) and kswap was nowhere to be found on iotop. So, yes it seems to alleviate the issue, probably will have to do it everytime it happens. Maybe I will create a quick-launch-button for it. I don't think it can work like automatically... can it?
Re: [Trisquel-users] ebook seller that provides privacy?

Re: [Trisquel-users] Javascript in Epiphany Browser
Thanks Lembas. Don't know why I'm so scared of IRC!! This is the current method to disable completely: gsettings set org.gnome.Epiphany.web enable-javascript false

Tried these? https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Web#Getting_in_Touch
Re: [Trisquel-users] Old Fashioned Tiled Wallpaper
"The office" Perfect for the corporate CDE environment.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Javascript in Epiphany Browser
I have tried that but the newer version of epiphany does not support those extensions. I found this page but there is no mention of disabling javascript https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Web/Development/Security It's a shame because it's really fast and light but without the option to disable javascript I won't be using it :(

Re: [Trisquel-users] Old Fashioned Tiled Wallpaper
Install Mtpaint, think of an object, a famous artwork, or something else entirely, then try and draw it on a 16x16 or 32x32 tile. Just make sure it tiles well. Patterns of shapes are good and things that make it look like something is going into the distance.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Netinsall, tty, apt-get update not working
I don't know how it's supposed to work. So the image is burned to the CD. Why, during the install, would it accept installing GRUB on my encrypted drive more than if I use a USB stick instead? Normally, a CD is recognized as some kind of drive I think. So I see no reason for it to be different. At least that's my conclusion with the knowledge I have for now.
