[Trisquel-users] Hosting Zimbra
Hi everyone, I currently use unseen.is webmail is I found out is actually Zimbra. I feel like I might want to host my own Zimbra based email and calendar. I'm wondering if anyone here has had any experience with hosting it. I also wonder if this is something which will eventually cost me money (which I don't mind paying for the right price). Thoughts?
[Trisquel-users] Re : how do you read your books: pdf or html?
I do not think it makes any difference: in both cases, the CPU probably runs at the lowest available frequency ('cpufreq-info' in a terminal can tell you the current frequencies). The same holds for the GPU (if you have a separate video card). You can reduce the brightness of the screen to save energy. And do not believe that a black background wastes less energy than a white background: it was the case with CRT screens but it is not true for LCD screens (it usually is the opposite!): https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/fact-or-fiction-black-is/
Re: [Trisquel-users] how do you read your books: pdf or html?
for books i prefer epub as its well supported by ebook readers for text to speech, which is how i prefer to "read" a book

[Trisquel-users] how do you read your books: pdf or html?
Hi to all the people of this beautiful forum. First of all Let me contextualize the question and be more specific: I am talking about free books that one can found freely in the web. I n my case more like Tech books but could be from others areas of literature. A more specific question should be: what is better to use: reading one book trough the browser (html) or reading the same using pdf file. What is less computer resource consuming, energy saving, etc. I hope you understand my question. Many many thanks in advance.

Of course you can use my words, just as I rewrote Trinux's words. In this forum we all believe in freedom of redistribution, don't we?

I will send the letter as Ignacio wrote it. But I still continue with that which was my point in the first place: if we donate in the behalf of Gnu/Linux Triquel distro they will understand and give more time of work for this wonderful distro. let's start that crowd funding. I am in on that

Re: [Trisquel-users] Mega Sync Cloud
I recommend owncloud and openmailbox as the owncloud provider. they have cloud storage and email. so yeah. that's my best recommendation to start with. anyways...
Re: [Trisquel-users] Mega Sync Cloud
Thanks brashley46 and CalmStorm for your answers. @CalmStorm do you use a cloud service? Do you recommend any? Thanks in advance.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What is the replacement of bootstrap and angularJS in software free/libre
What you mean? As far as I know all these are libre/free software, bootstrap and AngularJS are under MIT license and typescript under Apache license.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Mega Sync Cloud
I wouldn't trust that website, due to one important thing, http://www.newshub.co.nz/nznews/kim-dotcom-i-dont-trust-mega-2015073112 http://betanews.com/2016/04/22/backup-your-mega-files/ I used to use it, till I heard about this... Also, I have a strong feeling mega is probably part of debian's nonfree contrib area.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel netbook (mini) version
That worked for me.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Mega Sync Cloud
I'm using it too. I downloaded the version for Ubuntu 14.04, asa that is the version Trisquel 7 is based on, more or less. I had to download the .deb on my desktop and import it to my netbook, as neither Midori nor Icecat will connect to mega.nz .
[Trisquel-users] Mega Sync Cloud
Greetings, I use Mega Sync - https://mega.nz - in other computers - Can I use it on Trisquel too? If so what distribution should I use? - https://mega.nz/#sync There are many options for linux... Thanks in advance and all the best for this project. Lourenco

Re: [Trisquel-users] screen resolution 1280x1024 to 1600x1050
Oh.. sorry... i forgot compeltely to say that i have Nvidia 970GTX... my bad... but thanks very much for your reply! :D I guess i will try then that 4.8 kernel. Hope it goes fine. Thanks again. Best regards
Re: [Trisquel-users] screen resolution 1280x1024 to 1600x1050
I assume you have an ATI GPU. Yes, it will work. The libre kernel has a patch that fixes the resolution. Debian's kernel is deblobbed but it doesn't contain this patch. So, yes, install the libre kernel jxself packages. cheers
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel netbook (mini) version
sudo apt-get install policykit-1-gnome. Then try again.

[Trisquel-users] screen resolution 1280x1024 to 1600x1050
Hello all!! In the first place before you throw rocks on me i know this is trisquel site and not debian. But what i am asking is not for *debian things only*. I did a fresh install of Debian KDE from Jessie (8) to Stretch (9). I want to change monitor resolution to 1600x1050. You see below my pic showing that is 1280x1024 maximum screen size. When i was on Debian Jessie i went to https://jxself.org/linux-libre/ site and did it. All went smooth. As before was 1280x1024 automatically changed to the correct screen size to 1600x1050. Now before changing anything i want to ask you guys if i go to jxsef.org again and download kernel series 4.8 will work? I mean: i did uname -a and the display was Linux debian 4.8.0-1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.8.5-1 (2016-10-28) x86_64 GNU/Linux So as you see there is kernel 4.8.0-1 but in January i think this Stretch Debian will turn stable. But jxself says on his site that "A new long-term version will be selected roughly once each year. The next will be 4.9, which is expected in December 2016." So at the moment as i am writing this we are on 22 November. Just a few more days and i can expect this stable 4.9 will available in a few days. So his site has 4.1 kernel (that is pretty old compared to 4.8 kernel). And has 4.8 kernel, that only will lives for 2 months. 4.9 kernel is not available for now. What i do? Thanks in advance, best regards.
