Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel not detecting ThinkPenguin wifi adapter after install
Ok I se what you mean now. The splash screen is already grub. It seems that it lacks the option to select a different kernel or advanced options. Let me looking at the manual of grub and at libreboot. You can also ask on IRC #libreboot how to boot a different kernel. I'll try to answer as soon as possible.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot T400 Review!
OT, but important: I really wouldn't know personally because I never tried but I was told if you spice it up the odor turns suddenly quite yummy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabis_%28drug%29
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel not detecting ThinkPenguin wifi adapter after install
I am new to GNU/Linux and don't really understand what grub is. When I power up, I see the libreboot menu. It has two options that mention grub: -Load test configuration (grubtest.cfg) inside of CBFS -Search for GRUB2 configuration on external media The first of those options makes the menu disappear for a second and then return. The second option might work if I knew what files to include on external media. I can also press 'c' for a "grub>" command line, which might be what you refer to in your last comment. From here I pressed Tab to display all commands. The two commands that stand out as related to the kernel are "xnu_kernel" and "xnu_kernel64," both which give the error: "file '/boot/grub/i386-coreboot/xnu.mod' not found." I don't see a way of accessing "advanced options" from the libreboot menu unless there is a way to do so from the command line. I'm attaching images of the libreboot menu and grub terminal. If from the libreboot menu I instead select "Load Operating System" as usual, I immediately see a splash screen with the Trisquel logo. During this time, pressing ESC toggles the splash screen, pressing 'c' does nothing, pressing Shift does nothing, holding Shift does nothing, and repeatedly pressing ESC repeatedly toggles the splash screen. I get the "free firmware" error 6 times while booting, after which I am taken to the login screen . The exact error is: iwl3945 ... : /*(DEBLOBBED)*/ firmware file req failed: -22 iwl3945 ... : Could not read microcode: -22 Missing Free firmware Where in this process does it sound like I need to select the kernel, and how? Thanks for your time and assistance.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel not detecting ThinkPenguin wifi adapter after install
Isn't the splash screen grub?? If not this is: When GRUB 2 is fully functional, the GRUB 2 terminal is accessed by pressing c. If the menu is not displayed during boot, hold down the SHIFT key until it appears. If it still does not appear, try pressing the ESC key repeatedly.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel not detecting ThinkPenguin wifi adapter after install
Ctrl+Alt+F2,F3,F4... all have the same result.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel not detecting ThinkPenguin wifi adapter after install
ESC toggles the splash screen on and off and Shift doesn't do anything, whether the splash screen is on or off. Is there another key that could work? Should I do something differently from the libreboot menu?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Keyboard + mouse not responding after startx (/home & /swap encrypted)
Well, regarding mouse and keyboard(s) being accessible from startx without sudo, it definitely works :) If I have other bad surprises, now I know I can add my user to more groups for different purposes. But I still don't like how it's a bit hacked (instead of a working directly from a clean install). Oh well, it works for now. And you definitely helped a lot: * my communication style is hopefully more direct * many important files/folders I wouldn't have noticed without you. Specially trying with a new user, which revealed to me the location of the xorg log (well hidden). So (o^^)o thanks again albertoefg!!!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel not detecting ThinkPenguin wifi adapter after install
Press Shift or ESC at boot and in GRUB select advanced options hit enter and select a different kernel. Here you have a more detailed instruction with images: https://askubuntu.com/questions/621393/how-to-change-kernel-at-boot The top one is normally the latest then there is probable a recovery with the sawe kernel. So the tird is probable the one you want.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Could not apply the stored configuration for monitors
Do you remember what más updated? Try booting with a different kernel: https://askubuntu.com/questions/621393/how-to-change-kernel-at-boot
Re: [Trisquel-users] Keyboard + mouse not responding after startx (/home & /swap encrypted)
Maybe there is a bug related to the encryption method. It seems the problem is not that uncommon. Is it working normally now?? That is great :) I don't feel like I helped much but at least your machine is working now :D
Re: [Trisquel-users] Keyboard + mouse not responding after startx (/home & /swap encrypted)
Bingo, adding my user to input did work. But I'm not satisfied: * .xinitrc should load X automatically, it doesn't. * Why do I need to add my user to the input group? Do I need to belong to other groups just to have a functional machine? And, uh, that would be pretty much it.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Keyboard + mouse not responding after startx (/home & /swap encrypted)
It seems I need to add myself in the input group: https://github.com/bulletmark/libinput-gestures/issues/7 But How come I'm not into this group in the first place? Well, I'll test that first, because there's no point to this question if it doesn't solve the issue.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Keyboard + mouse not responding after startx (/home & /swap encrypted)
is it fine in terms of free software? If so, I guess I can find them on nvidia's website? But I thought my GPU worked just fine with Nouveau (which it does, even right now with an incomplete startx launch).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Keyboard + mouse not responding after startx (/home & /swap encrypted)
Also try upgrading to jxself kernel.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Keyboard + mouse not responding after startx (/home & /swap encrypted)
Install nvdia drivers and blacklist nv as stated here: troubleshooting X server. (EE) Failed to load module "nv" (module does not exist, 0) - Ask Ubuntu - https://askubuntu.com/questions/90915/troubleshooting-x-server-ee-failed-to-load-module-nv-module-does-not-exist
Re: [Trisquel-users] Keyboard + mouse not responding after startx (/home & /swap encrypted)
this (https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/149985/startx-cannot-open-dev-fb0-permission-denied) seems interesting.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Keyboard + mouse not responding after startx (/home & /swap encrypted)
Before trying to fix (most likely format) my thumb drive and fetching the full logs, I'll reboot into the new user and try startx again. It seems startx might be occupied by the old user.
[Trisquel-users] Re : Trisquel not detecting ThinkPenguin wifi adapter after install
Same thing with Ctrl+Alt+F2? If not, you can fire 'sudo apt-get install open-ath9k-htc-firmware' there (although it should be installed by default...) or even install a newer kernel: https://jxself.org/linux-libre/
[Trisquel-users] Re : Syslog and Kern.log
Having five lines (from "Missing Free firmware" to "Could not read microcode: -22") logged every 2ms (the numbers between squared brackets are times since the last boot) is abnormal... but the logs Davide0 are not like that. They look normal, hence my question: do they still increase until you run out of disk space? The newer version of Linux-libre may have solved the problem but the older logs may be still present, taking all the space. Let us see the output of the following command that shows the twenty largest files in /var/log: $ ls -lhS /var/log/ | head -20 If you cannot log into a graphical session (a full root partition does that if I remember well), log into a terminal with Ctrl+Alt+F1 (or Ctrl+Alt+F2 or ... or Ctrl+Alt+F6).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Command execution problem
I went through the recovering procedure with the backup and I think I got it. Will replay.

In the original user's xorg's log, in addition to what's listed for the new test user: * (WW) Falling back to old probe method for modesetting (and for fdev on the line efter) * (WW) Falling back to old probe method for vesa * (WW) VGA arbiter: cannot open kernel arbiter, no multi-card support * (EE)xf86OpenSerial: Cannot open device /dev/input/event2 Permission denied. * right after: (II)opening input device '/dev/input/event2' failed (Permission denied) * right after: (II) failed to create input device '/dev/input/even2' * (EE) libinput: Power Button: Failed to create a device for /dev/input/event2 * (EE)Preinit returned 2 for "Power Button" * (II) Unload module: libinput (to be continued, my hands hurt :p)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Keyboard + mouse not responding after startx (/home & /swap encrypted)
Good call, with the new user, I can't launch startx at all, and it seems I have now access to some xorg log. The plot unfolds (I hope so)!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Command execution problem
I started the procedure but I didn't get the message Updated BUC.TS=1 - 64kb address ranges at 0xFFFE and 0x are swapped but I got: Your flash chip is in an unknown state ... FAILED ... DO NOT REBOOT OR POWEROFF
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel not detecting ThinkPenguin wifi adapter after install
How would I go about trying this?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel not detecting ThinkPenguin wifi adapter after install
When I tried Ctrl+Alt+F1 from the login screen I got the "missing free firmware" message for about 20 minutes, after which the computer froze up.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Command execution problem
Yes, I am in the directory. About execute permission, I only downloaded the files from libreboot.org and moved a rom file in the util folder as suggested. How can I enable permissions to this command and so as follows to the actual BIOS installing one.(which is: sudo ./flash i945lenovo\_firstflash - with the rom name at the end). May be the macro file "flash" should be enabled to be executed.
