I just came back to my desk after a few hours and my laptop would not
wake up. The caps lock indicator was blinking. I assumed this was a
kernel panic.
But why?

Thank you! This is a lot of great information. I'll be giving all this a
try tomorrow.

Yes, I think so. I have never used the script myself, but if I
understand correctly all it does is replace the Ubuntu repos with the
Trisquel repos, identify proprietary software on your system, and give
you the

Make sure that git is installed
$ sudo apt install git
so that the command is successful.

The torbrowser-launcher
Thanks.
I have never tried to build from source before so let this be my first try.
I already had a beginners problem:
According to the guide the first steps are
git clone https://github.com/micahflee/torbrowser-launcher.git
cd torbrowser-launcher
but there is no torbrowser-launcher folder
I tried to install the greeter but it said that I already have the latest
version. I looked around online but nothing is working so far. I will keep
looking around and hopefully get my computer working again.
Thank you so much for the help.
RAID 1 looks nice indeed. I have never used RAID though.
By the way, I am now considering using a JBOD volume to save a lot of data
for cheap. My thinking is I can afford to lose some data because I have
multiple snapshot of a lot of data, so if one drive fails one day, I can just
replace it with a new one and my backup program can just figure out
Thanks. Can I use the Trisquelize script with any existing Ubunto to Trisquel
version? Since I don't know any better, I have always installed Ubuntu 14.04
and run the trisquelize script from that version.
Can I install Ubuntu 16.04 and run Trisquelize to get Trisquel 8?
I'm also considering
You can get a root terminal using 'chroot' from another (installed or live)
system. Here is (too) comprehensive information on how to do so and then
reinstall GRUB: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Installing#via_ChRoot
Instructions 7, 10, 11, 12 and 13 are certainly enough. In fact

I just installed Trisquel Mini on a laptop with sda1 as "/", sda6 as "/home",
and sda5 as swap. I intended to leave /home as is.
I actually did this twice; the first time I installed I didn't partition "/".
When booting, I got the Mageia grub page as before the install. So I
installed
Searching the Web for "lightdm.service: Failed with result 'start-limit-hit'"
returns similar problems. The configuration of LightDM seems faulty in all
cases. For information, I only have one file "users.conf" and an empty
"lightdm.conf.d" directory in /etc/lightdm:
$ ls /etc/lightdm/*
It says "lightdm.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'" and
"lightdm.service: Failed with result 'start-limit-hit'".
It also says some other things but I do not know if they are related. I
attached some photos of the screen.
I am sorry for asking so many questions. I really appreciate
Reinstalling Trisquel (and all the packages you added on top of the default
system) would certainly solve the problem... but it would be more instructive
to fix it. LightDM is the responsible for displaying the screen where you
can graphically log in the system. So we already knew it fails
Thank you! I was able to save my data with a live USB just by right clicking
and open the folder as an admin so it probably wasn't encrypted.
I checked "journalctl" and didn't really know what I was looking for but I
read through it and it said that lightdm failed to start. I checked online
Hello,
I am new here.
Well, I installed Icecat by apt-get and I changed the language by downloading
the language pack at ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gnuzilla/ and it worked fine. But
the installed version of Icecat is quite old.
I tried using the latest version (60.3.0) through the "icecat"
Thank you for the links!
I installed it now and got it running.
How do I get the best, most complete GNOME experience on Trisquel?
