Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 8.0 mini recognizes ath5k as wired ethernet adapter
The drivers come from the kernel and it seems a logical place to start. Part of troubleshooting is trying out different things. Trying a different kernel would then help to, if nothing else, rule that out.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 8.0 mini recognizes ath5k as wired ethernet adapter
I planned to make a presentation using a free/libre distribution yesterday, but with very limited hardware resources. And the situation was very embarrassing. They said that Trisquel was the stupidest operating system that even couldn't correctly detect the type of a mature NIC. And I don't believe that this could be a kernel bug. The Atheros card in my notebook existed for more than a decade before Trisquel 8. I can't imagine that such kernel bug was (re)introduced in 4.4 and didn't get fixed until the next LTS release.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel and Kylin
Ubuntu Kylin's desktop environment (namely, UKUI) version 2.0 is based on MATE, so there are quite some similarities. UKUI is also in Debian's main repository (starting current stable, "buster"), and you can try it if you like. Rumor has it that UKUI 3.0 would be based on KDE.

I can't help but notice that Trisquel's MATE configuration looks very similar to Ubuntu Kylin's MATE. Did Ruben look to Kylin when designing Trisquel's interface? -- Caleb Herbert KE0VVT 816-892-9669 https://bluehome.net/csh <>
[Trisquel-users] Re : Invert screen
Using the 'dark background and light text' addon for firefox compensates for the problem, but the color settings of the addon and the theme are not exactly the same. Again (and sorry if either I was not clear the first time or if I misunderstood the sentence above): You can know the exact color of any pixel on your screen (in particular the colors defined in Numix-Zenburn) with tiny programs such as gcolor2, which is Trisquel's repository; You can set six of these colors in the preferences of the extension "Dark Background and Light Text".
[Trisquel-users] Re : Trisquel 8.0 mini recognizes ath5k as wired ethernet adapter
Have you tried a newer kernel? Trisquel 8 ships with Linux 4.4 but you can install, from its repository, the package "linux-image-generic-hwe-8.0" to get a 4.15 image. You can have version 4.19 or even 5.3 following the instructions on https://jxself.org/linux-libre/ You need to reboot on the newly installed kernel (the newest version is the default).
[Trisquel-users] Re : 'Open in terminal' does not work
Sure (and sorry for the delay). The screenshots of the first three tabs are attached. I believe the rest is default.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Problem installing free graphics card help here guys
You are out of luck. Unfortunately to my knowledge ATI gpus require proprietary firmware in order to work properly (yes, even to display the correct video resolution). Consider (if you are able to do so) selling your hardware and buying some freedom compatible one. This website can help you -> https://h-node.org/

Re: [Trisquel-users] When will Trisquel 9.0 release?
> yes for now i do need to install jami or ring! and > upgrade keepassx from 2.0.2 to 2.0.3 Jami provides an apt repository. If you edit /etc/apt/sources.list as root and add the line deb https://dl.jami.net/ring-nightly/ubuntu_16.04/ ring main You should be able to then run $ sudo apt update && sudo apt install jami-all to get the latest version of Jami. However, another Trisquel user is interested in learning to backport packages, with the intent to backport a newer version of Jami, so if you are willing to wait, a newer version of Jami may soon be in Trisquel 8's repos anyway. Keepassx is trickier. The version in Trisquel 9 requires a newer version of libgcrypt20 than the version that Trisquel 8 has. I'm not sure how difficult this will be to make work. I'll look into it and get back to you. Reply to this post reminding me if I don't follow up within a few days. signature.asc Description: PGP signature

This is the first message I see from you, so I guess your original message didn't go through. Unfortunately, Trisquel's netinstaller is not working at present. Re: [Trisquel-users] When will Trisquel 9.0 release?
> i wanna know if i can use the trisquel 9 without runing into some > privacy and security issues, I'm not aware of any privacy-hostile changes between Ubuntu 16.04 and Ubuntu 18.04. If have been such changes, I would like to know so we can fix them. Otherwise, Trisquel 9 should be equally privacy-respecting to Trisquel 8. There are some features and artwork still missing, but none whose absence would cause privacy issues, I think. If anything, I would expect Trisquel 9 to be more secure than Trisquel 8 at this time. Since Ubuntu does not backport security fixes to their universe repository, newer versions of Ubuntu are more secure because they are more up-to-date with the upstream developers. When I look at what packages are still missing from Trisquel, I don't see any whose absence is a likely security risk. > or how can i upgrade some packages from etiona repository and stay in > trisquel 8 without making it crash? You can download debs from archive.trisquel.info/trisquel/pool/main, but in general this is not a good idea. If Trisquel 8 has all of the needed dependencies of the package you want then it should go smoothly, but if it does not then you will need to download those of the dependencies too, which could get messy and even break your system, depending on how low-level the dependencies are. Are there specific packages that you need upgraded? If so, I might be able to advise you on the best way to upgrade those particular packages. signature.asc Description: PGP signature

> Nice! Did you use the netinstaller? No i upgraded from trisquel 8 following the instructions given by MD here https://trisquel.info/en/forum/trisquel-unstable#comment-143882 i wanna know if i can use the trisquel 9 without runing into some privacy and security issues, cause for me all i need is already there! or how can i upgrade some packages from etiona repository and stay in trisquel 8 without making it crash? im new to linux but im someone who likes getting in to the bottem of things, so after joining the linux comunity in a few months i followed the rabit hole to end up in trisquel :) and now i will try my best to learn more on how to play arround with it
[Trisquel-users] Trisquel 8.0 mini recognizes ath5k as wired ethernet adapter
My wireless adapter is shown as following using lspci command. (It's actually an Atheros AR5424, though) 03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Qualcomm Atheros AR5212 802.11abg NIC (rev 01) In Trisquel 8.0 mini, it's recognized as "Wired 2" (whereas "Wired 1" is the true ethernet adapter) and I can't enter SSID manually. I currently have only 2 GB flash storage so the standard edition (which works on the same ath5k WLAN card) is too big. And it's not very convenient for me to append the screenshot right now. However, I can provide further details later.
