Does that mean that it also doesn't work on your machine?
Just in case somebody is wondering where to find the DistroWatch review:
http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20150727
There is a new update on Phoronix:
https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=Librem-15-Rev-2-Coreboot
However, I don't consider this to be a significant step in the right
direction as there would have to be proof first that they really installed
coreboot.
Sure, the exact license is shown here:
https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/us/
That's for sure but Allwinner seems to have quite a bad reputation when it
comes to actually releasing code.
Are you sure it's not a Soc? On http://nextthing.co/ they claim: C.H.I.P.
does computer things. Work in LibreOffice and save your documents to
C.H.I.P.’s onboard storage. Surf the web and check your email over wifi.
Play games with a bluetooth controller. With dozens of applications and
Oh, I almost forgot to mention this blog post from Free Electrons:
http://free-electrons.com/blog/free-electrons-chip-nextthing/
Free Electrons is also very excited to be working with NextThing Co on this
project! Thanks to this, over the next months, we will have a very
substantial amount
The C.H.I.P hardware design is now available under a Creative Commons
license: https://github.com/NextThingCo/CHIP-Hardware
As far as I understand it, this would be the first completely open hardware
SoC once Linux kernel support is implemented. If this is correct, it's just
awesome!
Thanks for that link. There is even a lengthy post from the coreboot team
about this issue:
http://blogs.coreboot.org/blog/2015/02/23/the-truth-about-purism-why-librem-is-not-the-same-as-libre/
On the other hand, Purism claims that all of that is just a big
misunderstanding:
I guess he wanted to say that the previous campaign failed. Why do you think
this campaign or that guy is a fraud?
Funny to see how some people become FLOSS advocates for all the wrong
reasons. I think this forum really isn't the right place for any kind of
propaganda (well, maybe except for FLOSS propaganda).
@chaosesqueteam: Let's make this thread about your game and FLOSS again. You
won't gain many
Thank you for that link.
The best place for feedback concerning hardware is probably www.h-node.org.
Welcome to freedom.
If you type top in a terminal you'll see what causes this high CPU load.
For me this reads a lot like this bug: https://trisquel.info/en/issues/8183
Both fsf.org and mozilla.org work for me without problems with Abrowser 39.0.
Are you using any add-ons that might cause problems?
Welcome to freedom. :-)
That's very good news. Does it provide an ARM port? I couldn't find any
information about that.
Trisquel is very well suited as a programming environment. What exactly do
you want to program?
The video is really well done, I agree. :-D
As for your question, I can unfortunately only tell you what's written on
their campaign's site. I hope they are determined to free hardware as this
would help the free community a lot IMHO.
Hello guys,
There is a new crowdfunding campaign which might be of some interest to you:
BeagleCore - 100% Open Source IoT device

This board claims to be 100 % Open Source: We love Open
I don't know anything about Syndie but AFAIK you need I2P in order to run
Syndie. Did you already successfully install and setup I2P? If not, that
might be the first thing you want to try. Then you can also directly ask
questions on the Syndie forum (http://forum.i2p/viewforum.php?f=29),
For the people too busy or too lazy to read the whole thing: What's the
statement of this text in a nutshell? ;-)
Judging from the chart provided on their website
(https://www.syndie.de/index.html) I would say it needs at least some sort of
anonymizer (like Tor, Freenet or I2P). I2P isn't actually too complex. You
might just want to give it a try.
Hello muhammed,
Does Michal's definition of free hardware match yours, Mzee?
It does but I don't see why OSHWA would have to come short of this
definition. They could, for example, create several levels of freedom and
the highest level of freedom would be achieved by just following Michal's
So it'll be necessary to see and wait if that make it in or not.
True that but that would be MY definition of truly open hardware. ;-D
It seems you're trying to present the so-called Open Source Hardware
Certification as something more fundamental that the RYF program.
Right now this is pure
I don't think it's a duplicate as there is a difference between Open
Hardware (i.e. hardware whose interiors and circuits are known and well
described) and hardware which just respects your freedom.
@ deavmi: I don't want to rain on your parade but this is a Trisquel forum
and NOT a Fortran forum. There are dedicated forums for Fortran related
topics. This one for example:
http://www.tek-tips.com/threadminder.cfm?pid=214
The problem persists here... :-(
Thank you for the hint. However, it seems to work again now.
Thank you for the link. How is this different to Tox?
On their Kickstarter page they claim:
We've worked very closely with the amazing team at Allwinner Technology to
insure that all the necessary documentation and source code for the System on
Chip and Power Management Chips used in C.H.I.P. will be available for the
community to use and
sudo apt-get remove --purge tor
I think that did the trick; thank you. :-)
Do you really use Abrowser and not Icecat?
I had Icecat installed some time ago and removed it again afterwards. Maybe
tor was just an artifact from that older installation.
I'm running Trisquel 7 and I just discovered the tor process. However, I
couldn't find any electrum wallet. Why should there be a Bitcoin wallet
running by default?
Concerning your original question I don't know too much and I highly doubt
that there will be an updated version for Trisquel
What's the problem with Trisquel 7?
Hello there,
I just noticed that there is a process tor running in the background even
though I never installed tor. Does this now come by default with abrowser?
How can I disable tor? Thanks a lot for your answers.
There is an add-on called Private Tor browsing but it has been disabled
already. Strangely, I still have a tor process running in the background.
Thanks a lot. I seem to have kinda missed that discussion. As I don't want to
search the whole thread for this information: How can I disable tor?
Hum... unfortunately torbutton is not installed on my machine. Thus, I can't
disable it. ;-)
Wikipedia says that [t]he various MP3-related patents expire on dates
ranging from 2007 to 2017 in the U.S. If that really is the case, this
shouldn't be a problem anymore for Fedora in 2018. Just three more years to
go for them.
Why do people vote this down? Thanks a lot for sharing this link. I'll give
it a try or is there anything wrong with this project?
This is really very annoying! In the last couple of months I had to change
the repositories several times.
First, I used the Spanish repos until they started to make problems. After
that I started to use the French repos until they stopped to work, which
forced me to switch to the US repos.
Same problem here with Trisquel 7 and US repositories.
Hi guys,
Since I recently updated my system IceDove doesn't provide a Get All Mails
button anymore. Do you have any ideas how I could get it back again? Thanks a
lot!
I know that there is an extension
(https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/get-all-mails/) doing
this job
Thanks for your reply. I know this but there used to be a button to get all
mails at once. Now it's gone and I would like to know how to get it back.
Oooops, sorry. Next time I should read the whole start post first. ;-)
Thank you, Calinou!
The FSF has a dedicated page for your question:
https://www.fsf.org/resources/hw/single-board-computers
Does a reboot help? For me, that did the trick when I ran into a similar
issue.
Not about the i2p network.
Well, you asked for comments and got some. Deal with it. :P
Additionally, maybe I2PBerry might be of help for you:
http://www.element14.com/community/community/raspberry-pi/blog/2014/07/22/i2pberry-allows-raspberry-pi-users-to-surf-the-i2p-anonymously
I2P is a darknet. Thus, any website hosted within the I2P network (they call
them eepsites) can NOT be accessed from the internet. Tor and I2P are quite
different and have different approaches to reach different goals. I highly
recommend to read the official documentation of I2P first as it
Thanks a lot for suggestions. Do your suggested routers have a hardware
switch to turn wifi on and off?
Hi guys,
I'm looking for a freedom friendly wifi-router which should fulfill the
following wishes. It should:
- be able to run a completely free router os
- provide wifi and the possibility to switch wifi on and off via a hardware
jumper
- provide (at least) 4 LAN ports
- not cost too much
Thanks for filing a bug report. I hope this gets fixed soon. Switching to the
US servers worked well.
Ok, I switched to the Spanish mirrors but once again I didn't get any updates
for quite a while now. Anyone having the same problem?
I have never seen any inappropriate content on I2P so far (except for
normal pornographic content). Maybe you just want to give it a try.
I don't use Freenet but do like I2P (https://geti2p.net/en/) a lot. Maybe
that's also an option for you.
Thanks for the release. :-)
I just copied my old .thunderbird folder from my old machine and renamed it
to .icedove on my new machine. That worked perfectly well.
I use a Samsung Galaxy S3 with Replicant on it and can't complain so far.
Just note that you won't be able to use wi-fi and GPS without proprietary
drivers.
The OpenMoko phone is hard to obtain and I'm also waiting for the Neo900.
Great idea! :-)
Well, I can't really tell you what to do but I would like to advise you to
switch to releasing the code now and enabling donations without deadlines. By
doing so you would reveive much more donations as you can see with Trisquel.
People keep donating money even though the software already is
Here is a direct link: http://libertybsd.net/
Apparently, the developers won't release anything until 3 BTC have been
donated. Smells a bit fishy if you ask me...
As I don't need it myself I have no experience whatsoever with using any of
these programs but there is a (pretty comprehensive) list online which might
be helpful for you: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_screen_readers
Sure, of course there is much more needed than just replacing Skype to
really free a computer but it would be a tremendous step forward. The problem
of convincing all your friends is a very common one. I had to deal with it
many times before because usually the majority of people goes with

Thank you very much, andrew, for telling us about this blog post. I wasn't
aware of it before. Here is what I wrote to the HPP commitee:
In my opinion Gnash shouldn't be placed on that list so prominently
anymore because Flash is a dying technology and will (hopefully) soon be
a thing of the
I have Trisquel installed on an Acer Aspire 7739 and don't experience any
problems like this. Did you install all the updates after installing the
system? Maybe there is a fix already in the updated packages.
Apparently it has already been done: http://trisquel.info/en/issues/12976
Thank you very much, oysterboy. Switching to spanish mirrors did the trick
indeed. The french mirrors seem to have some issues and it would be great if
someone would have a look into this.
Guys, it has again been a while since Firefox 34 has been released.
Furthermore, there are now important Xorg updates which fix several ancient
security bugs. I thought there would be an automatic way to integrate updates
from Ubuntu directly. Why are those important updates not yet
Hum... unfortunately not for me. Is there anything wrong with my

work?
I also agree with you. So far I didn't encounter any bugs and it really looks
nice. :-)
Sorry to read that but you do know that there has been a post from Ruben
answering some of your concerns, don't you? Here it is:
https://trisquel.info/en/forum/long-term-sustainability-trisquel-what-if-we-lose-core-developers
in case you missed it. Would be nice to have you on our boat
Thank you very much for your work and for this feedback. It clarifies a lot.
I couldn't believe my eyes:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/dotnet/archive/2014/11/12/net-core-is-open-source.aspx
Thank you, akfoss, for bringing this important topic up again. It's very sad
that there isn't any official comment from Ruben about the current situation.
How could those issues be resolved in the near future?
The new site is awesome. Thank you! :-)
This issue has been reported by me over a year ago and it still persists in
Trisquel 6 Mini. See this ticket: https://trisquel.info/en/issues/9493
I really hope it won't be an issue anymore with Trisquel 7.
I have the same problem but unfortunately no solution. Sorry, pal. :-(
Hi guys,
For a few days now the program Jitsi, which I installed from their custom
repo, doesn't start anymore. The only message I get is the following:
java.awt.HeadlessException
at java.awt.SplashScreen.getSplashScreen(SplashScreen.java:107)
at
I know someone who is using posteo.de and he seems to be quite happy with it.
Sorry that I can't provide any deeper insight.
I approve! ;-) Just one quick question: How do you measure the progress of
your project? As far as I understand it, it is just a documentation effort,
which doesn't seem to be very measurable.
On Trisquel 6 I got the following update today:
The following packages will be upgraded:
bash
1 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 1,529 kB of archives. After unpacking 1,024 B will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n/?] y
Get: 1
Additionally, AFAIK there are also no security updates for Trisquel 7 right
now or is the situation different there?
I just read that there are some issues with apt
(https://lists.debian.org/debian-security-announce/2014/msg00219.html). I
really hope that Ruben gets the new infrastructure to work again soon.
Just now I got some upgrade for the following packages:
cups cups-bsd cups-client cups-common cups-ppdc ffmpeg gnupg gpgv
libav-tools libavcodec53 libavdevice53 libavfilter2 libavformat53
libavutil51 libcups2 libcupscgi1 libcupsimage2 libcupsmime1 libcupsppdc1
libcurl3 libcurl3-gnutls
@leny2010: I would love to answer you myself but basically greenman already
wrote everything I wanted to write for me. ;-)
@jxself: The last official comment is almost a month old now.
This is a VERY serious issue. Why is there not even an official comment? I
feel very uncomfortable recommending Trisquel to anyone at this point if
there are no guaranteed security updates.
I also reckon this is a very serious issue.
@Legimet: Which bug did you reopen?
@All: Wouldn't it be an option to script those updates by taking them from
the Ubuntu project? Doing these kind of things automatically would help a
great deal, don't you think so?
Thanks for the link. I hope this can be fixed ASAP.
I agree, please upload the video.
Trisquel 7 hasn't even been released yet.
I finally managed to find a solution for this issue. Writing the following in
a terminal as root user solved the issue:
echo session required pam_systemd.so /etc/pam.d/lxdm
Yep, sorry. You're right. That was the wrong link. Maybe another one can
help:
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cje9wvsBnw0/ToSeqAhQg8I/BaI/V2fT04Q4_iM/s1600/Screenshot-8.png
Yes, it can look nice as you can see here:
http://tutorfreebr.blogspot.de/2013/07/trisquel-gnulinux-60-uma-distribuicao.html
The link shows how Trisquel-Mini looks by default. There are quite some
options to customize it.
Hello lembas,
Thank you very much for your fast reply.
On Trisquel 6 I'm using Linux 3.15.8 and on Trisquel 7 I'm using 3.13.0.
Btw: I put the cable in the green jack on my sound card. I also tried the
blue one but that doesn't help either.
Thank you very much onetechbuddy and lembas but unfortunately neither
reinstalling pulseaudio nor upgrading to Linux 3.15.8 (via the linux-libre
package provided by jxself) helps. :-(
Still, all I can hear is just some hissing coming out of my speakers. Any
further suggestions?
AFAIK, the ssh demon should not be enabled by default anymore
(https://trisquel.info/en/issues/11188). If that is still the case you might
want to open a new issue ticket.
Hello guys,
I already posted this a while ago but I reckon this issue deserves its own
thread. The problem is that I can't shutdown as normal user being on
Trisquel-Mini 7. The ticket for this problem can be found here:
