What a shame.
I am currently using Palemoon. Can't complain so far... Works pretty well.
Maybe you would like to give it a try?
From my personal experiences:
First introduce them to free software that actually runs in Windows (VLC,
gimp, Libreoffice etc).
Once they are used to daily using this tools (this may take some time), show
them that by running gnu/linux they will use the same programs, only without
viruses,
I did everything listed and got only one problem.
Since the upgrade to Trisquel 8 I could not install any package or execute
update.
Terminal kept responding with:
Erros foram encontrados durante o processamento de:
plymouth-theme-trisquel-logo
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error
Have you ever used any other gnu/linux distribution or is Trisquel the first
one you ever try?
About your touchpad... A quick search provided some useful informations:

It might be that using a newer kernel
Yes that is what I meant. And indeed it works very nice. Thank you for the
quick answer!
Commonly I use OggConvert to convert .mp3 to .ogg. I've always wondered if
there is another software which allow queueing... Would be a significant
help.
I think you would be very fortunate to pursue such idea. In fact I also feel
the lack of such as a board purely dedicated to the free-software community.
I imagine it would be very nice to create one using a mix of what the
Trisquel forum is with somewhat of a normal image board like 8ch is.
Well I don't think those laptops are these expansive... I mean, as she well
stated "If you're looking for a laptop that respects your freedom, privacy
and security, then this is for you."
I live in Brazil, so is quite costly due the Real-Eur change... But we have
to account that this is a
I also have great interest in learning Guix. Mostly due a answer gave by the
own Adfeno in another post in which I asked about R in Trisquel.
Unfortunately university has not given me the time to dedicate myself on the
matter.
I do. I've being using Trisquel for quite a time now. Only with the mate DE.
I used to run Debian, but that was until I met Trisquel. Since than, Trisquel
is the apple of my eyes.
Thank you very much! This was quite annoying. I had to change to Icecat in
order to run around the problem.
Very nice. It's an annoying thorn indeed.
Isn't it better to download it using torrent?
I've always used torrent, never wanted nor tried to get used to streaming, so
this issue you raised never really bothered me.
Yes. Guix is awesome! It should come by default with Trisquel too.
I personally struggle with the same issue. Doesn't matter how much I run,
eventually I end up going back to mate. It works flawlessly. Other DE's makes
me more productive, but mate is just too good. Maybe one day it will be more
customizable, so one can work without the two bars easily...
I never thought I could see somebody unhappy with samba. I guess you never
knows.
I am buying one next year. Convinced my girlfriend to purchase one as well.
Feels good man.
I intent to purchase an t400 from Ministry of Freedom next year.
You already have one, or are you researching in order to make up your mind
about it?
trisquel is not a mainstream distro, you can't expect to have hundreds of
programmers fixing everything. It takes a lot of time. Belenos is a awesome
distro, and I am hoping Flida will be as good, maturation is a important role
in the production of anything that is good. Or maybe I'm just
I use Tutanota. It pretty much satisfy the requirements pointed out by
yourself. Give it a chance if Openmailbox keeps suffering the same problems.
Never heard about it slowing things. Are you sure?
I like Debian, I really do. I don't like that thing about stability that
makes you uninstal the whole DE when you wish to uninstal or replace an
application.
I just arrived from travelling. This is the type of news I was hoping for!
Wouldn't be better for you to use gparted or Gnome disk utility? But if you
really want to use dd, at least try to format the disk with gparted, and try
again.
Idk about the browser, but you can use "wget -c" to continue a Download if
you have to stop for whatever reason. I never encountered a situation where
this didn't work.
You can try and add the repositories from deepin, as suggested here:
https://www.quora.com/How-do-I-install-Deepin-DE-on-Ubuntu-15-04
You can also try to add the ppa: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:leaeasy/dde
You can find more about this ppa here:
https://launchpad.net/~leaeasy/+archive/ubuntu/dde
Did you selected the hard drive from the computer on the BIOS priority?
Does your BIOS has any locker? I once installed gnu/linux on a laptop that
had this extra option that made the boot priority ineffective. Could you look
at that?
You can take this issue to Kate developers or their community. You can
contact em by mailing list: kwrite-de...@kde.org
IRC: #kate at irc.kde.org.
Remember to take a picture, together with everybody of the trisquel forum.
Would be great, right? You ask somebody there to take it.
>I have also tried compiling the source code of some programs by myself and
failed miserably (that is a task that I never knew to execute well, I lack
experience in that aspect, and I know it is fundamental if I want to become
an advanced user).
Compiling is important, and pretty easy once
Griselda-Beatriz was awesome.
That's is such an terrifying way to teach about privacy. But did it work
properly? Did they really learned about the message you was trying to give?
Preaching for ears that don't wish to hear is pointless. My girlfriend is
well aware about the worries and the rots of Microsoft and yet she doesn't
care. She used Ubuntu for sometime (I believed it would be easier for her to
get used). She really liked it. Found it very easier to install
Gostaria muito de ir, mas não poderei. Alguma chance das palestras serem
filmadas e distribuídas? Eu realmente iria gostar muito de assisti-las.
Well pointed. What is the meaning of being free if it depend on proprietary
software?
If it has anything to do with microsoft you better off without.
It's more like a ethical problem. But there is not great warm in playing em.
Keep in mind that there are superior formats, of course.
It worked now. Updating kernel + Installing xfce power manager (turns out it
won't come installed as default). I'm working on the audio controllers now.
I changed to XFCE, might give it try, since I see you frequently talking about
it so good, right? Unfortunately, bright controllers and audio controller
still not giving response.
So far I tried only LXDE and XFCE. None of them worked. This might suggest it
isn't a DE problem, right?
Today I installed Trisquel LXDE on a old laptop. There is apparently no
bright controller. Nor does the keys assembled with functions (raise and
shrink sound, control bright, switch wireless) seems to work. It has to be
possible to make em work. How should I start? Never used LXDE before,
Yes. Thank you for correcting me. I will apply to get used with the correct
terms.
At the end this gave the best results I had.
I wasn't quite aware of Guix at the time. Now I think Guix is a great way of
working, although I didn't have the time to learn how to use it properly. I
really look forward to learn it soon.
I will read about it. Thank you very much.
It is very useful. I was already aware of BibTex. Although on my study area
(ecology and taxonomy) very few of the researchers use BibTex. In fact I only
know one who does. It's not very convenient, even so I feel like learning
this and getting familiar, just for the pleasure of knowing.
I have used Zotero for very little time. For what my poor observation time
led to acquire: Mendeley have more space to save references; A rich PDF
reader; The possibility to share your references among a community (which I
face as the main advantage Mendeley has); A better citation style
Do you have any experience with anyone of this softwares? Could you recommend
one of your preference?
I imagine most of the users here do not devote their lives to the writing of
scientific papers. Mendeley is a reference manager, really handy when it
comes to the organization and automation of citations during writing.
Although it is a proprietary software. Is there a good alternative? I
I also would say unity is the worst DE I ever experienced.
I like MATE. Here is Why:
1) It is simple. Just do what it has to do.
2) I don't care about the look of DE.
3) It's lightweight. Quite clean and smooth.
4) Looks like Gnome 2. Witch I loved, before the whole story that we all
heard about it plenty of times.
5) It hardly will cause you any
I read what were posted, as well as the links here pointed. I personally
don't see a problem with duckduckgo. Even if it does use some of microsoft
resources, there is no evidence indicating that the site tracks it's users.
Interesting point...
I do not contribute, but in my personal experience I learned that one should
never exchange the functionality for the beauty of anything. I tried many DE,
but I can't stay long away from MATE. If you like cinnamon, you might as well
continue to use it. If you really want to take a dip in
I guess times are changing and we can't say that terrorism isn't a more
popular subject now days, but it is very serious. Choosing to be free is now
associated with be some sort of criminal? That's is very serious.
Oh I see it now.
Thank you very much for the explanation.
I'm not a very experienced person when it comes to the subject of image
quality. In the past two days I've been testing MPV and indeed it has a
better video quality than VLC. I can't point exactly how but I can detect it
quite clearly.
I think I might need to test a little more and even test
I couldn't stop myself from clicking here after reading such an... Attention

It's quite the thing your parents are estating... Does they have a proper

do they just think it's a "hacker thing"?
>You don't believe bad actions will come back to bite you later?
It's such a fragile thinking. Why do someone have to believe in bad
consequences in order to not do harm to people?
Before you say it, I do agree that religion have the power to develop some
good habits. But we're in 2017. Do
Does it configure itself as a problem? Your explanation had me thinking it
isn't but a mere accident.
Well, when playing something with VLC the image does look quite unregulated.
Somewhat very alike to the "Sport mode", "Cinema mode" and so on, that you
find in any TV.
By glitch I mean something very similar tho the image available here:
https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?t=56287.
I love VLC. I think it's marvelous. Although recently I've been feeling the
desire watch videos with a really high quality. VLC doesn't works properly
when playing a high quality video. It has saturation problems, sometimes it

Looks good. Does it work properly? Did you find major bugs running plasma?
Also how heavy it is?
As far as I know WPS office is a proprietary software, right? It does work
pretty good, though.
But is it worth using? Does it really applies as an trustful software? Never
seem any discussion about this matter. Shall We begin a?
I tried to sign up but it wouldn't work. Is it out yet?
Why use Transmission instead of qBittorrent? The later makes much more sense

What are the biggest changes so far?
I'm currently trying to run away from those the most I can.
I think I might give it a go. Will post the results if I succeed.
