Re: [Trisquel-users] Best file system for storing devices to be used with Trisquel Flidas
@Magic Banana: Thank you for your comment @Centurino: Thank you for your comment. @Jaret: as far as I can remember it means data corruption due to aging of the storing media.
[Trisquel-users] Best file system for storing devices to be used with Trisquel Flidas
Which is/are it/they? Why? Thanks in advance for your opinion.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Communicating to computer illiterates who use proprietary software
>Please don't use the term "computer illiterate". >Illiterate person is the one who can't read and/or write. >The term "computer illiterate" doesn't make any sense and sounds disrespectful. Interesting comment. If I have time I will start a thread on that subject in "The Troll Lounge" folder. Thank you for trying to help.

@ boba Thank you for your 2 last replies. Your response has been more than highly satisfactory. If I knew how to use rating system of this forum I would give you the highest score
Re: [Trisquel-users] Communicating to computer illiterates who use proprietary software
I really don't know if recipients will want to modify what I am sending them. I would't mind if they want to do so. That's why I thought of sending them an editable spreadsheet and not a pdf file. I want to make things for them as easier as possible. Don't you think that sending an xlsx file will be the best thing to achieve my goal? I'm very interested in your answer. Thank you for trying to help.
[Trisquel-users] Communicating to computer illiterates who use proprietary software
At least for the last decade I have only used GNU-LINUX programs and Gnumeric has been one that has given me the most satisfaction. I'm using Flidas almost since it was launched. Now I need to share some of the data I keep on Gnumeric spreadsheets with people whose computing knowledge is even less than mine and most probably are only using Microsoft (and less probably Apple) software The only way they can receive this information is through email attachments and I want to make the procedure of opening and reading them as simple as possible for the receivers. I have thought of using the Gnumeric 1.12.28 "Save as" option, choosing the ISO/IEC 29500-2008 & ECMA 376 2nd edition (2008); [MS Excel™ 2010] "File type" and saving the data as files with the .xlsx extension before attaching them to the emails I must send. Is it highly likely I will achieve my goal using this procedure? Is there a simpler procedure? Thank you in advance

Re: [Trisquel-users] Are there easily measurable images of the earth with Trisquel Flidas?
@ chaosmonk & @Beko Thank you for your answers. Marble seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. I would like to pay you back for your help but I'm an only an old unprosperous IT student who is struggling to get out of digital illiteracy with the burden of little time and a flat learning curve. Is there anything you believe I can do for you?
[Trisquel-users] Are there easily measurable images of the earth with Trisquel Flidas?
I'm using Trisquel since about 18 months and I have used Trisquel Flidas almost exclusively during these last 7 months. One of the things I mostly miss of my old operating systems is that with them I could use Google Earth with its ruler that allowed me to measure, almost to the inch, the distance between two points of the images it showed. Is there any Trisquel Flidas compatible application that allows users to do the same? Thank you in advance.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Bug report in the right place?
Thank you for your help :-) I will use the data in your post as a basis for my next steps.
[Trisquel-users] Bug report in the right place?
I'm on Trisquel8, and have tried to use a printer I have used before with other GNU/LINUX operating systems without problems. Because I can't use it with Trisquel8 I have traveled the following path up to its end: Trisquel's Main Menu/System/Administration/Printers/Printers-localhost→Help/Troubleshoot/ There I have found a window with the following text: PRINTING TROUBLESHOOTER SORRY! There is no obvious solution to this problem. Your answers have been colleted together with other useful information. If you would like to report a bug, please include this information. Diagnostic Output (Advanced) Page 1 (): {'cups_connection_failure': False} Page 2 (): {'cups_dests_available': [('Generic-text-only', None)], 'cups_queue_listed': False} Page 3 (): {'printer_is_remote': False} Page 4 (): {'cups_device_attributes': {'device-class': 'direct', 'device-id': 'MFG:Canon;CMD:BJL,HAPS,BSCCe,PLI;MDL:iP1800 ' 'series;CLS:PRINTER;DES:Canon iP1800 ' 'series;VER:1.11;STA:10;CHD:BKM,CLM;HRI:PAM;MSI:E3;', 'device-info': 'Canon iP1800 series', 'device-make-and-model': 'Canon iP1800 series'}, 'cups_device_listed': True, 'cups_device_uri': 'usb://Canon/iP1800%20series?serial=8D8ECD'} Page 5 (): {'printer_page_size': None, 'system_locale_lang': None, 'user_locale_ctype': 'en_US', 'user_locale_messages': 'en_US'} I hope I have posted this in the right place and that it will help other users and me to solve this problem. Is there any other solution? Thank you in advance.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Has someone else experienced the same problem with mtpaint and his Trisquel8?
@nadebula.1984 >Sorry for the inconvenience. Please don't feel sorry... These words of yours >Oops, then the problem was because that you haven't updated the repository for some time, and therefore the old version of certain dependency was removed from the mirror server. Because I frequently update the repository (# apt update) maybe several times everyday, I presumed that you do it too. have been very helpful. Thank you! Sorry for my delayed thanks.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Has someone else experienced the same problem with mtpaint and his Trisquel8?
Thank you both. With loldier's tip, I solved the problem. Sorry for the delayed answer. Because I'm almost an illiterate user, I'm not sure I fully understand nadebula's post. As soon as as I have some free time I will try to verify if I understood him correctly or not. Again, thank you very much, both.
[Trisquel-users] Has someone else experienced the same problem with mtpaint and his Trisquel8?
Suddenly, since about last April, I haven't been able to use mtpaint because the gnome-app-install (g-a-i) constantly says the installation fails due to a problem. The failure has always been accompanied by and announcements that say that "some of the packages could not be retrieved from the server(s)" and by questions about whether or not to I want to continue with the installation ignoring those packages. No matter what my answer is, after that, the g-a-i has always announced "an error has occurred" and has provided the following details: "E: Unable to connect missing packages W: Failed to fetch http://archive.trisquel.info/trisquel/pool/main/g/giflib/libgif7_5.1.4-0.3~16.04_amd64.deb 404 Not Found [IP 176.31.119.109 80]"
Re: [Trisquel-users] Does the "Deepness of the location of a file" matter when using Flidas?
I have posted a message thanking you all and apologizing to chaosmonk.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Does the "Deepness of the location of a file" matter when using Flidas?
Hello Chaosmonk Though I want to thank all who have tried to help me with this problem, I'm specially addressing you because when reading this topic before sending this message I discovered that despite the information I provided in my messages from Thu, 11/10/2018 - 00:39 UTC+1 and from Thu, 11/10/2018 - 06:18 UTC+1 were in response to your very useful request from Wed, 10/10/2018 - 22:45 UTC+1 I directed (by mistake) that information to another user who was also trying to help me at that time. Sorry for the delay in letting you know these things just now. The problem was solved but it took a lot of time and tests that unfortunately have only left suspicions and not certainties. I can't say I know what has happened because making some of the suggested changes (and others) in the starting link did not solve the problem and my suspicions on a typo have again increased because at the level of the destination file's name, I found a sort of typo that is not easy to discover if you use the "Caja File Manager 1.12.7" in the "Browser" mode and "icon view". After correcting it the problem has practically dissappeared. I'm using "practically dissappeared" because the first time I clicked on the starting link after having corrected the up-mentioned typo, I got a response that was similar to the one I attached to my post on Thu, 10/11/2018 - 06:18 UTC+1. But since that last failure which happened several days ago, the troublesome link has never failed again. I reiterate: Thanks to all who tried to help!!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Does the "Deepness of the location of a file" matter when using Flidas?
@ loldier This is the sort of reply I received from Abrowser when the problem began
Re: [Trisquel-users] Does the "Deepness of the location of a file" matter when using Flidas?
@ Magic Banana Thank you for the link! I also distrust my keyboard skills and therefore I haven't ruled typos out. But I also suspect of the shallowness of my knowledge on links and on the way in which I configured the storage media I am using. I am trying to gather evidence about these factors and eventually submit them here in the forum for consideration. And thank you very much for your thoughts!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Does the "Deepness of the location of a file" matter when using Flidas?
@ loldier Thank you for trying to help. I have made so many attempts to solve the problem and changes in the address of the starting link that currently when I click on it I'm not receiving an error screen and I am able to access folders that have a much longer path than the one with which the problem began. For example if the starting link was: href="file:///media/trisquel/STORE%20N%20GO/YA16G5708003700ATL/IT/GENERAL/SOFTWARE/UNIX/LINUX/TRISQUEL/DOWNLOAD/FLIDAS/BURN/IRC/PIDGIN/LOGS_OF_CHATS/#TRISQUEL/2018-10-10_16h53.html"> this is the current starting link my Abrowser would ask me to check the path's spelling and the content of the last folder and to try again. The error only disappeared with a shorter starting link like this: href="file:///media/trisquel/STORE%20N%20GO/YA16G5708003700ATL/IT/GENERAL/SOFTWARE/UNIX/LINUX/TRISQUEL/DOWNLOAD/FLIDAS/"> this is a shorter starting link Now, with the current starting link, though Abrowser shows me what can be seen in the attachment; that is not what I'm expecting. I'm looking forward to see the contents of 2018-10-10_16h53.html. But I don't know if that is possible and (if it is) how to achieve it. There is something else that has changed since my first post: I'm not so sure that this is a problem related to a long path. I'm eager to know about your point of view. Thanks in advance.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Does the "Deepness of the location of a file" matter when using Flidas?
Thank you for asking I'm getting an error and I don't know if long paths are compatible with Flidas. This is what I would like to know: Does Flidas have some limit regarding the length of the paths that are used with it?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Does the "Deepness of the location of a file" matter when using Flidas?
I discovered the problem when trying to link an .HTML document that is at the 16th level of deepness to another .HTML document that is also at the same level of deepness but of another folder. I have linked other .HTML documents before without problems. I currently don't recall the deepness at which they were located.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Does the "Deepness of the location of a file" matter when using Flidas?
For example, I would say that initrd.img is not deeply located in the file structure because its location is / I would also say that it is located in the first level of deepness. On the other hand, I would say that dao.h 's location is quite deep, because its location is /usr/include/libspreadsheet-1.12/spreadsheet/tools/ I would also say that it is located in the 6th level of deepness.
[Trisquel-users] Does the "Deepness of the location of a file" matter when using Flidas?
I have a problem with Flidas I don't know how to explain without using what I call the "deepness of the location of a file". Do you understand me when I use that expression to make my question?
Re: [Trisquel-users] "Flidas without installing" and Sugar TOAST
@loldier: Dear Sir I'm not sure if I understood correctly your last post, but I have kept its words in mind ever since I read it. Though I haven't succeeded in launching Sugar Toast yet, I feel your help has put me back on the tracks. Your words have drifted my thoughts and readings towards the subjects you have mentioned in that post and they have encouraged me to check the integrity of the files in the DVD I was using at the time of my failures. Thank you very much!. Because the eight alphanumeric strings (with thirty two elements each) of the files I have been using matched with the ones of the md5sum.txt file that was attached to them, and in turn, they all came from a md5sum checked ISO file I had downloaded, I'm leaving aside the possibility that my problems were due to a failure of that sort and I'm focusing on a failure caused by the way I have used the Synaptic Packet Manager. I'm almost a technological illiterate who had never used it before. If this fails I will try to reach my goal using the apt command family which seems scarier and with which I'm less familiar still. Please excuse me for the delayed response.
Re: [Trisquel-users] "Flidas without installing" and Sugar TOAST
@ loldier @chaosmonk I think I have derailed and I need some context to get back on track. I'm not sure if in your last posts you are suggesting that (for SUGAR TOAST installment) I should use the CLI terminal as a complement (of Synaptic) or as a replacement of Synaptic. It would be of great help if you could clarify this doubt for me. Thanks in advance.
Re: [Trisquel-users] "Flidas without installing" and Sugar TOAST
This is what I get from my mate-terminal... trisquel@trisquel:~$ sudo apt install trisquel-sugar Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these: The following packages have unmet dependencies: python-gst0.10 : Depends: python-libxml2 but it is not going to be installed trisquel-sugar : Depends: sugar Depends: plymouth-theme-sugar but it is not going to be installed Recommends: sugar-honey but it is not going to be installed E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution). trisquel@trisquel:~$ But I don't know how to manage this output. What would you do if you were in my place?

Excuse me for the inconveniences and thank you for your time.

@ loldier I'll try with the trisquel-sugar package as soon as I can. Thank you!
[Trisquel-users] "Flidas without installing" and Sugar TOAST
Hello! Could someone please write about what would he advise a Trisquel user who wants to use Sugar TOAST on a "Try Trisquel without installing" based Flidas? Where could this user learn about the best way of teaming up these 2 systems? Thank you for your time.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Flidas without installing
Sorry. In my last post where I wrote >This means that before my first post on Sat, 08/25/2018 - 00:46 CEST (UTC+2), all my attempts had been made...< You should read This means that before my first post on Sat, 08/25/2018 - 00:46 CEST (UTC+2), most of my attempts had been made...
Re: [Trisquel-users] Flidas without installing
Hello All my attempts since Tuesday, 21 August, 2018 16:10 CEST (UTC+2) were made after having "allowed apps that may use a less secure sign-in method" to access my Yahoo account. This means that before my first post on Sat, 08/25/2018 - 00:46 CEST (UTC+2), all my attempts had been made with this setting and all the other settings required (including those of https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN4075.html) in order. Thanks for asking.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Flidas without installing
@ chaosmonk Please forgive me for this belated thanks message but I have spent much of the time since your last post here trying to balance the bad news with good ones. In spite of having achieved my goal the results have left me annoyed and bewildered. The bad news: 1)Everything I described in my first post was done taking into account the recommendations of the pages you mentioned in your last post. 2)Endeavoring to balance bad with good news I left aside my original plan of an orderly and neat research of the causes that were previously mentioned here. 3)I plunged into multiple and chaotic parallel investigations The good news: The problem seems to be solved. The causes of my discomfort and confusion are: a)I don't know who solved it or how it was solved. b)I have lost the opportunity to better understand how the different factors that were previously mentioned in this topic are/were participating in the problem c)I have been left suspecting there are/were other causes (that were not mentioned in the topic) but that could also be involved. For better or worse, these have been the facts. Thank you for your time and help. Comments and questions from anyone are always welcomed.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Flidas without installing
@ loldier: Hello! Thank you for trying to help. Before chaosmonk's post I couldn't find the road. Now, if I don't misunderstand you, the road seems to have branched out simultaneously in at least 5 directions: 1)The issue of the disabled cookies in Icedove 2)The disk space factor 3)The encryption settings (SSL/TLS) 4)The non-standard portals issue 5)The two factor authentication issue (2FA) Because my IT knowledge is extremely poor and I don't find it easy to jump from one research road to another my plan is to continue my research in the first direction until the problem is solved or this matter is ruled out. In this case I will continue with the other research roads in the order we have both mentioned, unless I receive convincing arguments to change it. @ chaosmonk: Hello! Because you said > Try temporarily enabling cookies in Icedove's privacy/security settings and see if you can sign in.< my first move was to seek for the privacy/security settings in Icedove but I couldn't find such a place. So I have now moved my research to Abrowser's privacy/settings place. Am I on the right track? Thank you for your time
Re: [Trisquel-users] Flidas without installing
> Assuming that you are indeed typing your username and password correctly,< No doubts about that! > it's possible that the problem is that yahoo won't let you sign in with cookies disabled in Icedove.< That's a possibility I hadn't thought about. > Try temporarily enabling cookies in Icedove's privacy/security settings and see if you can sign in.< I'll let you know how the pudding tasted after having followed your recipe. Thank you very much!

Re: [Trisquel-users] Which is the easiest way of making an .html file with Trisquel Belenos?
@ mason, loldier, Magic Banana Thank you very much. The data and questions with which you have contributed, have encouraged me to deepen my studies on .html editing. Considering the set of options I already knew and the new ones that you have suggested, I think, that for the time being, the best substitutes for my Seamonkey dependent Compose is a combination of LibreOffice Writter and Abrowser's Web developer tools. Thank you all for trying to help
[Trisquel-users] Which is the easiest way of making an .html file with Trisquel Belenos?
In the O.S I have been using during these last 9 years it was an option of one of the browsers I could use. But I can't find something similar here. I'm enjoying Trisquel but missing things like this. How can I solve this problem wihtout returning to my old OS? Thank you in advance.
Re: [Trisquel-users] On my first download of Trisquel 7.0 LTS Belenos I got no md5sum file
loldier: Sorry for spending your time. Because I'm not a regular inhabitant of the digital world I don't allways keep in mind things I have heard or read before and act foolishly. Thank you for helping me to build a clear idea from what was a vague notion.
Re: [Trisquel-users] On my first download of Trisquel 7.0 LTS Belenos I got no md5sum file
Thank you loldier for your magic words! :-) I was aware of what you said but for some unexplainable reason I couldn't find the link that would allow me to download the checksum file. After reading your post and visiting the Sweden's ACC Computer Club (Umeå University) mirror (and thinking that the checksum file that they provide could be different from the one the FSF's mirror I had used provides) I went back to the FSF's mirror I had used before and this time found the elusive file which matched with the alphanumeric chain my CLI had delivered 6 hours earlier...and with the one that your link to theUmeå University also provides. I am now completely sure that nothing got stuck on the web Thank you :-)
Re: [Trisquel-users] On my first download of Trisquel 7.0 LTS Belenos I got no md5sum file
I mean I didn't get any md5sum file to compare with. I got an alphanumeric string after typing the command on the appropriate CLI. But I don't know where to look for the md5sum file to compare with. Any idea about what coud have happened and about how to solve the problem? Thank you.
[Trisquel-users] On my first download of Trisquel 7.0 LTS Belenos I got no md5sum file
Hello all Is that what is expected? Thank you for your time.
