While probably unrelated to this issue, when dealing with anything graphical

You'll need a heatsink and probably also a fan. Unless you're building

fry very fast or at least shutdown automatically as the heat gets too high.

Note that different parts use different sockets so plan accordingly. :)

Detecting the docking station is a lot trickier. You can check dmesg and the

might include udev or incron watching for specific changes in /sys, /proc or

grub2 is "grub pc or grub 2" i.e. version 1.99
config file /boot/grub/grub.cfg created by rules in /etc/default/grub. The
latter file is what you're supposed to edit and then run update-grub because
if you edit the .cfg directly, your changes will be overwritten when

on.

currently only echo gets run as super user but the redirect which would need
it doesn't get the sudo power. Why that's so I don't remember or understand.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Laptop too hot - CPU (almost) always at 100%

So this is a "suspend/hibernate/whatever" bug.

The default kernel comes with a ton of drivers. Many of these will be as
removable modules and not baked in. (And for many devices having a driver
active means they will be powered on.)

You could induce the 100% cpu condition and then lsmod to see what modules
there are and then try removing (rmmod) those one by one to see if you can
find the culprit that way. If you do, then add the offending module back
(modprobe) and see if the condition persists or not. If not, then you could
modify the "suspend/hibernate/whatever" scripts to do the module un/loading
for you.

Just wanted to point out that JavaScript and Java are different beasts.
Something (most of) you probably already know.

Restricted is one of the ubuntu repos, non-free.

Looks like there is also something called mypaint in the repos that's
supposedly specifically for wacoms according to the package description.

One swap is enough unless you hibernate one distro onto it and then use
another distro before thawing the first one.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Where did LibreJS go?

2016-05-19 Thread t8mf4nu6lizp

1 yes, everything under ~ should belong to you
2 you ran it as root with sudo icecat

(It's probably a bad idea to run it as root anyways but) if you wish to run
graphical apps as root, use gksudo instead of sudo.

Hi there! I agree teaching kids dependence of such megacorps is a very bad
idea. Perhaps instead one of these could come handy. We use Moodle at our uni
but it's not very simple. The second link could possibly be used to help
convince the administration. Glad to see somebody who cares about his old
school and kids!

Here is useful information on (trying to) remove the spying in unity

Tris 6 is based on 12.04, no spying there and Tris 7 on 14.04 where this
needs to be applied.

You can use any extension you wish or none. In UNIX-like systems file type is
decided by magic number instead of filename extension. Here the magic number
is the hash bang.

Your English is fine, I didn't even notice the mistake until you pointed it
out!

Re: [Trisquel-users] Stallman Talk

The first paragraph reminds me of the "UNABOMber manifesto" which I also
found interesting. As a leftist myself I think the politics related parts of
it are laughably misguided however but his points about the nature of
technological advance seem pretty spot on to me. Also I generally don't
condone blowing people to pieces though.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Kaczynski

For a somewhat less explosive approach there is also Winner's Do Artifacts
Have Politics?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Langdon_Winner#Technology_and_politics

I think these are all important questions which we as a society should be
asking ourselves, especially in a time like this when the technological
advancement is more rapid than ever and pretty unanimously seen as a force
for good.
