He doesn't have to install parabola, just test his wifi using a live USB
CalmStorm, the irony is strong with this one XD, I'll consider testing
trisquel instead, I just got back from vacation
Parabola is a rolling release and in my experience, they break easily when
they are Rolling RELEASE!
which makes me wonder why microsoft made windows 10 rolling RELEASE...
its like they said, we want the newest and latest and greatest even if it
causes most people's computers to break.
yes it does, I have seen the website. so yep.
The reason for recommending parabola for wifi testing is the much newer
kernel than trisquel. If you have wifi on parabola but don't on trisquel then
you'll know you simply need a kernel update on trisquel. If you don't have
wifi on both then you'll need a new wifi card/usb wifi.
Is Private Internet Access the one VPN that let's you pay with gift cards or
no?
Okay, I really hate to not use trisquel because I like everything about it,
the interface, the graphics, the privacy, everything, but I'll test it on
parabola and see if it works.
as Allanitomwesh said, you should to test Parabola for better compatibility.
A modern computer requires a modern OS, and that's Parabola ;)
Ah okay, thanks Magic
Is that a l or an capital i tonlee? And what would those commands do?
Install lshw
Commands
lshw
lsusb
lspci
Hmm alright I'll see about doing that
Thanks onpon, sorry about the duplicate message above, I'll look into paying
with gift cards
If a VPN doesn't charge you anything, you shouldn't trust it. If Bitcoin
isn't an option, various VPNs offer other options. Some will let you send in
cash, and I'm aware of one that lets you pay with various kinds of gift
cards:

You can make a live USB stick. Unetbootin is one easy way to do that.
Thanks Allanitom, I've looked up stuff about Bitcoin, and read up on it, but
I'm a bit worried about using a wallet, I would want to use a free VPN as
opposed to a paid one due to the fact that I'm worried about using Bitcoin at
least at this point in time.

Okay, and once I download the ISO onto my computer, it would give me the
option to test it live without actually installing it onto the external hard
drive? I'm not able to do a live CD because I don't have a CD slot on my
computer.
Those specs are pretty modern, i would suggest using Parabola to test the
WiFi not Trisquel 7.Or as suggested, Trisquel 8 Alpha
As for VPN you want a provider that uses OpenVPN and doesn't collect data on
their clients, and preferably lets you pay in bitcoin to not have payment
data on you
Where do I find what my wifi chipset is on the computer?
Thanks Huang I like the computer, just need to get Trisquel up ASAP, also
another question what would be a good VPN to use for trisquel, since I don't
want to create a new thread asking that question (unless that would be better
for
Okay, I'll try and when I click that link, it'll automatically download
trisquel 8 alpha onto the computer? Because when I clicked it on the tablet
it came up with a Firefox download screen.
Also where do I find out if my computer is BIOS or EFI, for some reason I
can't find it
Just a question of prop. wifi driver or not. All should be good. Worse case
scenario you can pick up a wifi dongle here:
https://www.thinkpenguin.com/catalog/wireless-networking-gnulinux
I'll reply on here with additional info I can find, the graphics driver is
Nvidia Geforce
Hmm yeah I could create a USB drive instead, but I wouldn't want to screw
something up and what about the wifi that probably may be wrong since you
said probably, is it the ISP I use or something else?
Where do I find that in my system settings?
I'm not sure if intel core i7 is compatible. But to know if GNU/Linux-libre
will work, we need more info, like the graphics, the wifi chipset (in the
case of laptops), etc. And also, does it use BIOS or EFI?
Hi everyone, just wanted to wish you guys a Merry Christmas and a Happy New
Year
I got a new computer for Christmas a Lenovo Yoga I'm going to post the specs
on here and and I'll see about getting a external HD drive to install
trisquel on.
