This was my initial take as well. In some ways Fox News is similar to ESPN
in that both get nervous when the talent starts thinking it is more
important than the brand.
But…there does seem to be a growing concerted effort by a significant
fraction of the hyper Right to punish Fox and move the

I will admit to not having kept up. I know that when they started doing
poll aggregation on 538 it was an innovation and gave accurate results. In
recent years a lot of poll aggregators have come along and 538 had to go

In September 1992, I saw two episodes of his show taped at NBC in Chicago
shortly after I arrived in town as a bright-eyed college freshman. That was
when it was still a relatively serious show, akin to "Donahue," rather than
what it turned into.
There was a lunch break between the two shows,
I’ll point out that Silver and his people sullied their own brand when they
shifted from their original model of collecting as much polling and
sampling data as possible to only curating polls and sampling that
supported Silver’s increasingly distorted take on society and culture. In

The toy/game giant announced it would spin off the studio late in '22, but

that no TV station would air. The episode was entitled “I’m in love with my

disposable he was. The Murdochs gave him a ton of money and their best time
slot and all he did with it was regurgitate right wing talking points to
the faithful. He didn’t recruit new people to the cause or make the talking

He told FiveThirtyEight staff on Slack "unfortunately the day we've been
worried about has arrived... We don’t yet know the scope of these layoffs,
exactly who is impacted, or the terms under which they are departing, but
it is going to be a hard day for all of us,”

On the tweetybox, he marvelled at "how many genuinely nice people there are
in this country" and that most of the debates on TV are "incredibly stupid."
