Thanks, just been playing with putty, it will connect to the Unix system,
but the tunnelling does not seem to work with the application that does
not support SSH.

Guess the easiest way is those tools you mentioned where you launch an
application as a service and it tunnels from plaintext to ssh.
You connect to a local port which then connects to the encrypted remote
port.
