I don't think it's mainly a matter of an extension to play these videos.
The problem is that the browser must have a player to embed in the
page which supports the H.264 codec.

login procedure with IE8.
So you (other) guys have not experienced similar problems with IE8 in
TYPO3 BE or FE environment? If this is not common, it is probably some
extension that uses cookies..?

That´s right: It also occurs in earlier versions for me (3.8 for
instance). So it must be related to either IE8 or Windows (which I
have tested in), not an extension I would say.
