I suspect part of the issue is that people are associating new and fresh
themes with OS X or Vista, since those both were there 'first'.
Like... *is* there a nice, new, theme that's not associated with them by
anyone?

Hard to tell much from the screenshot, but if this applies - don't see why
is the titlebar text italized, it makes it look kind of odd and not really
pretty. Also hiding the _[]X buttons by default would be a screaming
usability with common people.

They look beautiful, I really can't complain.
But can the trash icon stay like it is? In many countries, that paper bin
isn't really associated with trash so well (and I don't recognize it as
trash at first either. More like an icon I saw from macs).

Alt+leftclick should not at all be relied as the primary way to move the

I don't believe that emerald themes are going to be default in 8.10... at
least I haven't heard any such news. So it's a metacity theme (which is run
by Compiz's gtk-window-decorator).
I couldn't install your theme however: Intuition_by_newversion2.gz does
not appear to be a valid theme.

Steely grey themes imply mac os ones, and Ubuntu can't do anything to help
that. People would just need to get that theme themselves and install it.

After seeing this theme

that was designed for 8.04, I'm wondering - can we look at the designs
proposed for hardy too? A lot of good themes were deferred because of the
LTS and blah blah, but with the new theme changes promised
'New Wave Beta Pack 0.5 does not appear to be a valid theme.'

You do interact with tabs... you click on them, like buttons.
I like the new tabs, but they don't flow into the main part of the widget
too nicely yet. Also, I'm not yet convinced by the new _[]X button design,
it looks... bit off. The current 8.04 one looks better still.

A poll for the visual look of something is really bad - there are
professional designers for a reason, and that's because they know what
they're doing best. The poll would also not represent everybody who'll
be using the OS - the old gramdma, the office worker, or Facebook
addict. Simply because

No, really, their professional art team did make a good theme. But I
guess people that are switching from Vista to Ubuntu aren't doing it

How will you go about copyright?
I see Tango icons being used in a lot of places (commercial and no
commercial) with zero credit whatsoever (or, at best, a COPYRIGHT file
hidden away in some svn trunk, and not even displayed in the instance of).
Not that it's a bad thing, but if the copyright
CC-BY sounds great.

A lot of people on social networking sites are expecting a new theme also...
everybody got scared when the horrid completely brown theme was being
tested, but others comforted them that it was just testing. But with no
themes improving (the little bits really don't count in the whole scope of
the
GUI's didn't exist in the 80's in this form, there's a reason why Gnome is
the leading DE, there's a reason why Ubuntu is winning every distro usage
poll, and there's a reason this art team is here.
