Okay, so it seems that, between Dapper and Edgy, the RAM requirement
has increased. If this is a general rule then the system requirements
on the download page should probably be increased. If this is just for
our machines then it would be nice to know why...

I found another way to reproduce this bug:
Open the attached .pdf file, and *try* to zoom into 300%
(I use kdpf, but I guess it can be any program).
When going over 200%, the mouse starts lagging, zooming further stops
xmms from playing music, and the system becomes completely unresponsive.

I don't know of any Mobility X700 PCI-E that works w/o this patch. If
there were any it would be interesting to know if the patch would cause

Your problem seems to be in gnome-menus package.
Try to reinstall it. I have an updated feisty install and all menus are
ok.

hmm, after some tinkering, i managed to add /usr/lib/python-support to
the sys.path permanently. Now importing vte makes python segfault right
away.

Thanks for your report. This is also bug 76976, and has since been
fixed; run 'sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install ubiquity' from a
terminal window before starting the installer to pick up the fix.

Now we have two fixes for this. I thinkt the main culprit is still
libgtk2 gtknotebook.c. This fixlet from jser is more like workaround for
this.
That gtknotebook.c bug can cause other segfaults too, so I think it
should be fixed as well.
