I confirm this bug on Kubuntu Edgy Eft switching between Crystal and Keramik.
Keramik would not let me activate 'focus follows mouse' without that flickering
bug. Crystal is fine with that setting.

I have this problem too. I have the nv driver installed and my text gets
all messed up. This is only for the text fields in firefox and not
epiphany so I wonder why this should be related to the graphics driver.

I think the problem may be different, though. When I got to submitting
the report, I discovered that the crash was for apport itself, not for
gedit:

I was testing apport by sending SIGSEGV to gedit, and after clicking

ok, here are my bug reports with debug simbols, the problem found me
with low defences so I didn't make a proper backtrace. I hope this helps

Sorry a little confused by the last comment. If you plugin a flash
drive when logged in as root the drive does not mount is that correct?

Can someone point me in the direction of document describing what is
needed and expected of maintainer? and a good package developement
guide. I have extensive experience compiling Ogre and all of its
dependencies from source on Ubuntu.
