Confirming the bug. As a workaround, I installed Feisty kernel:
2.6.20-6-generic #2 SMP Wed Jan 31 20:53:39 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux
With the caveat that I haven't done much testing, this kernel seems to
fix the problem. The machine is a MythTV backend/frontend, so had to
rebuild nvidia modules;

mplayer-nogui_1.0~rc1-0ubuntu3_i386 still won't play an mp3 stream for
me. It doesn't throw out constant errors like the ubuntu2 version did,
and it says:

Another bit of information, a little more detailed:
When the LiveCD is inserted to a Windows box, it Autoruns the DiscTree
application, which loads:
drive/disctree/en/home.html
The windows title shows Ubuntu 6.06, from the title tag in the

Happens for the first time for me with a desktop cd edgy 6.10 final in an old
p3 machine.
The first boot was ok, then install crashed like the first post.
From the second boot only without queit and splash parameters boots ok,
then ubiquity crashed in the same way.

X config update crashes
I confirm these updates fix the problem, I now have a nice colour
usplash screen. Is it still limited to 16 colours and 640x400 on AMD64?

Folks -
I was able to get the screensaver running under Dapper by putting the
esheep.sh file above into the /usr/lib/xscreensaver directory. I'm
curious if Edgy moves these files into gnome-screensaver/gnome-
screensaver - can someone confirm?

Exactly the same here, installing the driver and loading the kernel-
module doesn't show any result. Reboots fail due to kernel panics on
startup.
