Hi,
Is there any progress on this subject? Samba folder sharing still does not work
out-of-the-box. The first time I ran into this, it took me over two hours to
find out that I had to add a user with smbpasswd -a, and I'm not exactly a
linux newbie either.

i remember that the same behavior (not finding anything in / was there
before i installed beagle.
in either case, beagle is only indexing files on few folders (primarily
/home/~) and search in nautilus should be general and work everywhere
and anytime (beagle works only with a delay).
In Feisty, it doesn't have the Edgy problem.

I upgraded my laptop (Toshiba M200, with integrated wifi-card) to Feisty
too, and this works without problems.
So big change that this error is due to the driver,
should I try to add rtl8187 (or r8187) to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist on my
Desktop-computer to see if this solves the error?

Even 32bit systems use the non-free 3rd party codecs/modules, the
AMD64 community can do the same.
Create a work-around for the time being till someone solves this
propriety 32bit codec problem- which hasnt been solved in the past few
years with regards to wmv files at least.

This is a VERY SERIOUS problem somewhere in the EXT3 codebase. I find it
hard to believe that it has not yet been discovered. I have not had a
chance to test it on other distros.
Steps to recreate problem:
Using a reliable system e.g. a Dell PowerEdge 400SC with 512MB

Possible solution:
Dell updated the BIOS for the Dimension E521 model to version 1.1.4 from
the original of 1.0.0, and this appears to have fixed the problem.

Kubuntu/Ubuntu Edgy Eft does not respond whenever I plug a USB device (except
for my USB mouse which barely worked).
The Peripherals I tried
I tried a USB Mouse. Whenever I plugged it after booting my laptop, Edgy does
not respond at all. The mouse lights up
I was only able to remove the radeon module and vesafb. No
intel-agp or agpgart. I tried it from the recovery boot. Anyway
the problem persists without the nolapic boot parameter.

I have the same problem using Dapper Drake. I can't get to the Bookmark manager.
I'ld hate to have to drop Krusader because of this as I really like it.
My regular desktop is gnome, because ubuntu uses it. At home I use KDE on
debian etch, but haven't tried Krusader on it.
I hope someon can solve

Oddly enough my partition is also /dev/hda6
Unfortunately I have also some bad blocks on /dev/hda5. Same problem.
Trying to fix the problem without -c parameter (e.g. fsck /dev/hda6)
is giving me at one point the expected output (Buffer IO error...) when
trying to read from the bad sectors.
Same here. I using Dapper-Drake but updated to the latest patches etc
via Update Manager. Using the K7 kernel for AMD processors.
I have noticed 80%-90% usage by this single utility when I execute 'top'
