I tried installing 4suite tonight and I found that it did not want to
start. Several issues arose.
1) The init script has bashism that cause it to fail. Replacing /bin/sh
with /bin/bash gets it to work. The specific bashism seems to be
gdb backtrace with the new kernel attached (this one was a hang, after
which it would restart normally).
My Firefox is the Ubuntu 6.10 default (2.0.0.1) with all security
updates; the only non-default plugin I have is RealPlayer and the
problem started before I installed that.

I can confirm this too.
Enabling the JMicron controller in my BIOS (Asus P5W DH Deluxe) makes
it look like the system hangs during booting. I see the splash screen,
but then it immediately pauses. After a long time i see a slowbox

Yes you are right, I could change this myself but am unsure if the bug
should be reported to cdrecord or wodim - I guess both of them. BTW this
is a problem that I observed often, I mean blocking at end and exiting
with error for processes that read from cds.

It appears that gnome-main-menu now uses preferences.menu but doesn't work
correctly for now.
Can we close this bug report and continue with #83387 ?

While the above 'solution' does allow me to write to the share, it of
course disallows distinctly UNIX things like symlinks. From what I can
see, there is no way to read/write these things without having the same
UID/GID as the owner on the server. This drastically limits the utility
