Thank you for the instructions. I suspected something like that.
Meanwhile, I have first removed the update to 2.6.17-11. Then installed
the restricted modules and reinstalled the update. Things are working again.

Martin, I get this too when I have auto-login turned on in GDM. I get
the 3 error messages you mention, then hald leaks memory something
fierce (uses up all 3GB of my machine's memory in a few days).
When I turn off auto-login so I have to spend a few tens of seconds in
GDM before Gnome fires
I had a problem with sluggish graphics and the nv driver, as well,
some time ago. See bug 27919 for details on that. The problem has long
since gone away, though, so the two may be completely different issues.

I'm afraid the issue hasn't been resolved. The previous comment was a
false positive.
The issue seemed to be resolved because of the bug in gnome-panel, that
made the panel bigger than usual (24px), with the latest gnome-panel
update, the panel is back to normal size, but the issue with the icon
if this is really a regression its importance High. Marking as such for

Accessories menu is accessed. I have tracked this down to being caused
by the gnome-screenshot.desktop launcher (Attatched. This file also
crashes nautilus and the menu

The problem occured while installing (dpkg -i) the package.
After that crash, gnome-btdownload was successfully installed

I'm looking at debian version of this, but I think the same. The problem
for me was a not-so-robust way of getting the default version of python
from pyversions.py:

Increasing importance, as this affects more apps than rhythmbox
(probably all).
But could you run compiz (or desktop-effects) from the terminal, and
attach then the output?

Hi,
this happened while getting xchat in the foreground again after doing stuff in
another window...
As the same thing happend with epiphany and it seems to be caused by gtk
syncing I'll file this for gtk...
