I have the same laptop with no sound. At me even the acpi=ht does not help. The
chip is Realtek ID 862. (Intel HDA compatible).
I tried: Ubuntu 6.06, 610, SUSE 0.2.
The alsamixer showes me only a single MASTER chanel.
I compiled the newest ALSA and the supported linux driver from Realtek.

Noticed another thing with 2.6.20. The kernel module asus_acpi doesn't
like on bootup, whereas 2.6.17 does.
However, despite loading the module in 2.6.20, the ACPI functions are
still not working. Suspend still hangs on wakeup, and software wireless
switch is still not responding.

A couple of things/differences I noted whilst reading through your logs:
- The Xorg.0.log from Herd5 mentions it can't initialize the GLX extensions,
since it is using the Nvidia libglx.so

- In the Xorg.0.log from Herd5 AIGLX is disabled (since it can't load the GLX
I don't know how to get more information about this problem, because
every time I've got this problem the system hangs. Has anyone ideas to
get more information about this, or can anyone confirm this? I still
have this problem. Every time powernowd is running my system hangs after
a (short) while.
Okay, the patch already was in the kernel source (release 2.6.20-9) and it is
also enabled in linux-image-2.6.20-9-generic. However it does not seem to help
for this problem.
I also disabled the libata_piix driver completely, so the PATA only piix was
used again, but resuming still did not
I have to say,im rather disappointed with how this bug is handled
I assembled a testing PC tonight,P4 3 GB,gigabyte board,nothing flash,and it
booted the Herd-4 CD nicely,installed everything in a flash,no worries at
all,works like a charm.
We have known about this bug for what,3 months
Mark: If there were no software patents, it would not belong in the bug
tracker, but since they do (notably in the US) its important to be aware
of them (consider why Ubuntu doesn't ship with MP3 support even though

If you have installed Dapper and have a bandwidth connection I advice to use
