I think I'm having a problem related to this bug. My ATI X1400 is not
detected correctly. X tries to use the the ati driver, but when it
starts something is not correct. The mouse appears as a diagonal line,
everything is stretched diagonally so far as to be unreadable. Changing
the driver to

My DELL Inspiron 8600 (with ATI Radeon Mobility 9600 video) still
suspends happily, but does not wake. On reopening the lid after a
suspend the power light stops pulsing and goes solid, but everything
else is still dead and the laptop needs to be
on and off during feisty over the last month my power button has been
shutting the laptop (acer 1644) directly without even asking me. some
updates fix it and then it happens again. right now powerbutton causes
direct shutdown - dont want to do it now but ill send output when can...

Solved: The real problem is that the machine is connecting to the
Internet and it downloads the list of available packages, but the CD
does not have them.
I solved this problem having my DHCP server not giving a default route
to the computer being installed.

I got hit with something that sounds very similar to this when upgrading
to the 2.6.20-10-server kernel. My system works fine on -9. I ended up
stuck in busybox with no mounted drives. I'm using a DG965 Intel
motherboard with three SATA hard disks. The following are details on my

though as you say the problem might be card-specific.

Enabling desktop effects causes the cube to not work (workaroundend
disabling the desktop selection applet, changing two values in the
configuration of compiz through gconf2, and

chip is an Ati Radeon M6 LY (AGP 4x 16MB dedicated RAM), old but compiz
seems to go quite good with it...i'm using Open Source Ati drivers

My earlier patch (in this thread), replaces the contents of
validate_nice_value() function with a single line:

The patch I submitted was against the broken version (7.2.0ubuntu4 with
$? -ne 1), but the same idea works with the not-so-broken one.

Note to self: Linux' thread API does not have a way to kill a thread.
However, let's try with sending a kill -9 to the entire application.

Cestulia's workaround from comment #59 worked here too (Gigabyte 965P-
DS4 mainboard with two hard discs on the jmicron controller). Everything
seems fine so far, only the old hard drives changed from beeing /dev/hd*
to /dev/sd*.

and uset do be a bit less than 2000... I'm using the ati driver
without any additional option, and I have a mobility 9700, in feisty.
And again glxgears is using more than 60% of my cpu. What about your

For packaged programs, feisty's apport does not *ever* save core dumps,
because /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern now points to a pipe instead of a
file.
Apport does generate core files for unpackaged programs if ulimits
permit. I'll move the check for SIGABRT down after the core file
creation, so
