When running of the LiveCD, and directly after the installation, the
PPPoE connection is perfect and a breeze to set up (using 'pppoeconf').
Right after the installation, Ubuntu mentioned a lot

Observe how there is no bounding box around this error dialog that

it was the new harddisk driver. ata_piix does not work for my harddisk
controller! using the old driver works just fine and show no errors whatsoever.
i recommend the ubuntu people blacklist the new ata_piix driver for now.

Found simular issue with the IBM Tinkpad Atheros 5212 based Wireless
A/B/G NIC after upgrading from herd 4. The issue seems to be relatet to
WPA encryption or hidden SIDs. Have succesfully tried to connectet to a
non-hidden and WEP-only enabled SID, but no luck on WPA since herd 4.
