I tried reducing everything in alsa mixer, but nothing to do, still get

It seems like Windows XP disables the LAN interface when it hibernates.

Compiz seems to render excellent desktop effect, but is highly broken:
1. Many windows appear only black. This can happen with even windows that were
appearing normal just a while back. If you minimize and unminimize it back, it
may or may not appear black!!
