I change the status of this bug to invalid has I found that this
probably come from my Windows Firefox profile shared with Ubuntu.

Alexander, I thought I did that already in my first message to this bug
report: the D-Link card (r8169 driver, MAC 00:17:9a:3a:c9:52) is the
right one, the VIA card is the wrong one (and has no cable attached).
That's also what I tell the installer, of course.
I strongly disagree about not telling the user exactly how to install a
package. This is mostly intended for new users that cannot search
package directory yet and are stuck looking for something they want to
use.
Debian can replace the default value and recommend aptitude instead.

any lvm-ed partition automounted (other than root), but manually

loop and munging CPU. The repeating ioctl(7, 0x6444, 0) is probably a
DRI request (from Xorg.0.log we can see file descriptor 7 is

Wrt point 3) I don't think it is unreasonable to assume that the default
interface chosen in the installer will also be the default interface in
the installed system. So probably the installer should write persistent-
net.rules, not udev at the first boot.
