I get the same problem trying to boot latest gutsy daily build live CD.

The fix to get it to boot it is add the parameter all_generic_ide using the
live CD's F6 menu.

I also have similar problems with the English install, ubuntu i386
livecd. Sometimes it doesn't load the partitioner (where you configure
your partitions), if it does load i won't get passed 8% on the installer
when it starts the partitioner and scans the discs.
