Just to clarify I have no real affiliation with Ubuntu or
Canonical, I too work in the IT field however I try to help out and
close bug reports when I get a chance. As for the number of
installations I don't think anyone knows. If I had to guess I would say
it's in the millions but
I figured out a work-around to get by for now...
If I make a launcher and put it in /usr/share/gnome/autostart , it will
add it to the Startup Tab of the Gnome Sessions Manager.

The error still exists for me. Although now it does not fail to boot, it
just takes a considerably longer time. It takes 3 to 4 minutes to boot,
as opposed to 1 to 1.5 minutes to boot. The error has changed now. While
for me it used to be

I have the exact same problem, after reconfiguring xorg.conf I ended up
with a black screen. Notice that this was an update from 7.04. Now after
7.10 was released I tried the installer and I wont get the installer

Upgrade installs incorrect graphics driver
Thanks for taking a look at this, as it is a serious regression for me and/or
anybody else with similar laptops. (I am posting this from the laptop in
question with a wired link to gain network access) I have updated the wiki,
(They did not have an column for gutsy, so I had to add it, hope
I forgot to mention openvpn fails to start with an out of memory
error. I added ulimit -l unlimited to the init script which fixed it
(it could also be done in limits.conf).

If I, for example, attempt to visit a site in Firefox, it will sit
unsuccessfully attempting to push packets out. However, if I switch to a vc and

Well, I did change the boot sequence and had it set to boot from CD. After
restarting the PC accessed the CD drive a little bit but then booted from the
HD anyway.

I have two sata drives in raid0 using nvraid so i can access it in
windows as well. There is just one ntfs partition on the drives.
Ubuntu is installed on a separate pata drive that isn't in raid.
in /dev/mapper/ i can see /dev/mapper/nvidia_bggfdgec and
/dev/mapper/nvidia_bggfdgec1.

yes, this bug is resolved.
It seems that when each ubuntu flavor finally upgrades xorg to 7.2 or
higher video detection problems go away. BTW 7.10 rocks !!! good job

I have also tried to attach /var/log/dist-upgrade/term.log (the last
file in that directory) but it Launchpad said, Cannot upload empty
file. I've looked at it again, and Nautilus does show the file size as
0 bytes, so it probably is empty.
The only other thing I can add is that if I try to

security design. While looking into fixing Bug #152968, I noticed that
in addition to still needing the long gone /etc/inittab,
Confirmed on the VGN-B3XP / Gutsy release. Noticed it back when feisty
was released and wondered what it was. Whether it's a bug or not is
another question: it doesn't affect my use of my laptop.
