Hi, I am new to Ubuntu.
This is pretty confusing, that there are two different applications for kind of
the same purpose.
Why I use Add/Remove software for some stuff, but Synaptic for other stuff?
This is confusing to me...
I discovered that I could install Conky and GKrellM via the

Confirmed: I copied /usr/lib/openoffice/program/libdba680li.so from my laptop
(OOo-base installed) to the desktop machine, without OOo-base. That was enough

Yes, it appears the sftp:/ sequence is the only one which attempts to
format the status text... fish:/ and ftp:/ only say Connecting... with
no bold bits anywhere.
Konqueror shows the host in sftp:/ in bold as expected, and in fish:/
and ftp:/ just says Connecting... like Dolphin.

Sorry I just figured things out. I still had the old gutsy partition so
checked it out and saw that I still had xserver-xgl installed. After
removing it the 10min problem stopped. Its also what stopped me running
nvidia-glx-new. Try removing the xserver-xgl package and see if it
persists.

Well, I'll be damned, this has been fixed somewhere along the way in Gutsy.
Bravo to the team! It is so cool to be able to use my usb 2.0 card reader in
Ubuntu again.

Bug confirmed on Gutsy amd64/nvidia (Asus V1S-AS004E laptop)
Solution *confirmed*, even went a tiny bit further: now got all 6 tty
working and visible in 180x60 characters mode -- 1440x900/24bit.
Outstanding :)
Please also note I have met no conflit, whatsoever, between nvidiafb and
I figured it out. I had xserver-xgl installed. After removing it
everything worked again.
