Yes, it appears the sftp:/ sequence is the only one which attempts to format the status text... fish:/ and ftp:/ only say Connecting... with no bold bits anywhere. Konqueror shows the host in sftp:/ in bold as expected, and in fish:/ and ftp:/ just says Connecting... like Dolphin. -- Raw HTML

Sorry I just figured things out. I still had the old gutsy partition so checked it out and saw that I still had xserver-xgl installed. After removing it the 10min problem stopped. Its also what stopped me running nvidia-glx-new. Try removing the xserver-xgl package and see if it persists. --
