As a newby to Ubuntu, I expected it to respect Windows XP partitions.
One hard disk, two partitions. One partition cleared (free/unassigned)
for Ubuntu, the second a data partition for Windows XP.
After the install Ubuntu had gobbled up the whole hard disk with one big
parti
With the fix my root partition doesnt get recognized anymore. It waits for the
root device indefinitely.
This notification of waiting appears before the sata devices are initialized -
all the relevant stuff is printed after the "waiting for ...".

Sure, but it doesn't crash anymore when opening this file. Instead,
sometimes OpenOffice closes, then wake with proposal to recover the .xls
file. And this is a typical behaviour since Gutsy release - very often
OpenOffice vanishes and then is waking up, offering to recover the .xls-
files.
