Meanwhile the problem was solved.
Now everything works with evince, including rendering and the zoom factor of
400%.
I have no idea what the problem was, maybe an inconsistent fontconfig state.
Here is what I did:
1. Removed $HOME/.gnome2/evince/ev-metadata.xml
2. Removed directory
If you want the package, it is built for i386 and amd64 in my PPA [0].
The 1.0.15 version has been uploaded for Hardy, whilst Gutsy still has
1.0.14rc4. For some reason, the PPA has put the Gutsy version in
Multiverse, which is correct, but the Hardy version in Main. I'm
uploading a new Hardy
Mandriva One 2008 makes it work out of the box (at least in my case, see
my previous post).

I have a Trust media center keyboard with builtin trackball. After a

a hash. I figured out now, my problem was related to my german keyboard.
