FWIW, this bug does not apply to OpenSUSE 10.3, Mandriva 2008, or
Feisty, and I highly doubt it applies to Fedora 8 or any other recent

The way I read this is you had a Java Plugin in Firefox installed,
somehow without Firefox, perhaps by forcing it. When trying to install

Installed the 2.6.24-1 kernel and I don't see the DMA errors anymore.

Same problem here using a Creative Zen 4GB:

command line, as-is.

my little daughter was typing crazy on the keyboard - wrong password, change
user and so on.
after unlocking with the correct password the screen-saver report an crash!
nothing else was affected.

after a fresh install of kubuntu gutsy (64 bits) and updating it as
gutsy i upgraded like you (i think)
adept_manager --dist-upgrade-devel
Most of the time the upgrading is not fully done...
so I go in console and finished it with aptitude full-upgrade
and /or dpkg --configure -a as few debs are
